  1. I personally would day that im more in to the anime as i grew up with it on rtl 2 at night time. Wont ever forget that time.
  2. ループ7回目の悪役令嬢は元敵国で自由気ままな花嫁生活を満喫する* a.k.a 7th time loop Kind of a different take on the "groundhog day" idea of repeating life until you have the skills and the knowledge to take charge and do it right. The MC was good but the antagonist was a bit of a paper target and the show wobbles a bit in the last few episodes. It never completely leaves the rails however and in the end I thought it worth the watch. (*What is it with the long-ash anime titles?)
  3. Nice to meet you, ANIMEFORUM! ! During my time studying in Europe, I was often asked the question mentioned in the title, and I have been contemplating how to interpret and answer it even after returning to Japan. I have now written down my thoughts and posted them on note. I have also prepared an English version as I would like to hear the impressions and opinions of Westerners. If possible, I would love for you all to read it and point out any mistakes from a Western perspective. If you find it interesting, please upvote and comment! Thanks! How to Respond to "Why Are Girls' Breasts Emphasized in Japanese Anime?" from Foreign Friends Understanding the Concept of "Virtue" To understand Western criticism of manga and anime, it is necessary first to grasp the underlying ideology, the concept of "virtue." "Virtue" refers to the qualities that drive a person to do what is right and avoid what is wrong. In the West, it encompasses the standards, actions, and attitudes that respectable members of society are expected to follow. In "virtue," particular emphasis is placed on abstinence, typically encompassing the prohibition or limitation of consumption, drinking, makeup, sexual activity, masturbation, entertainment, and adornment. Abstinence has been a consistent thread through Western thought and religion, from traditional religions like Christianity and Islam to modern ideologies such as socialism, feminism, and veganism. Many Westerners believe that imposing strict limits on sexual and dietary practices not only refines oneself as a person but also promotes societal progress and improvement. It is also believed that many social problems stem from a lack of virtue, and that encouraging widespread abstinence will solve these issues. Consequently, people who are perceived as indulgent in sex or food are often harshly criticized, with calls for their punishment and purging viewed as virtuous political opinions that garner broad support. Historically, in the West, there has been a tendency for citizens to welcome restrictions on freedoms, especially regarding expressions deemed unvirtuous. Those considered unvirtuous may face severe social sanctions, including societal ruin or death. Differences in Perceptions of Beauty In general, beauty and eroticism are seen as positive attributes in Japan. Beautiful and erotic things are regarded as divine and sacred. When Japanese people encounter such entities, they feel spiritually cleansed, and they express their awe using religious vocabulary like "godlike"(神 Kami)and "sacred" (尊い tootoi). In anime and manga culture, beauty and eroticism are often used as symbols of power, justice, divinity, and virtue (the Japanese concept of virtue, not the Western "virtue"). Historical figures, Gods and Buddhas are frequently depicted as beautiful and sexually attractive men and women. In contrast, in the West, beauty and eroticism have historically been viewed as wicked temptations that lead people (especially men) and society astray from the righteous path, considered attributes of the devil. Young, beautiful, and sexually attractive women have traditionally been expected to hide their hair and skin, avoid makeup and adornment, and strive not to tempt men, which is seen as virtuous and responsible behavior. In Western tradition, this can be seen in traditional clothing designed to conceal hair and skin, such as habits and niqabs. Freedom in Japan vs. the West In Japanese, "freedom" is a Buddhist term translated from the Sanskrit word "svayam," meaning independence and being unrestricted. An enlightened Buddha is "free," and this state of liberation from all restraints is considered "freedom" and a desirable state to attain. Therefore, in Buddhist cultures, including Japan, freedom is often viewed as an unconditionally good state, representing a process towards nirvana that all people should strive for. Conversely, in the West, freedom is seen as a test from Yahweh, interpreted as a practice where one must continually choose good over evil. Thus, in the Western perspective, freedom itself is not inherently good; it becomes virtuous only when one overcomes the temptation of evil and consistently chooses morally good actions. Westerners call the force that prompts one to do good and avoid evil "conscience," and acting according to this conscience is considered "true freedom," distinguished from mere freedom. Those who pass Yahweh's judgment are believed to be liberated from the freedom to choose between good and evil in the afterlife, achieving a state free from sin (which, in Japanese terms, would be an "unfree" state). When encountering the chaotic and uninhibited trends on platforms like Twitter or 5chan, Japanese people might be both appalled and impressed by the sheer freedom, feeling a renewed appreciation for their Japanese identity. However, from a Western viewpoint, such freedom is seen as evil, a fearsome chaos that conflates good and evil, indicative of a lack of conscience, and something that must be regulated. Moreover, while in Japan, unfreedom is often associated with shame, weakness, baseness, foolishness, poverty, or disability, and sometimes even becomes a target of contempt or discrimination, in the West, people who impose unfreedom on themselves and proudly display their level of unfreedom, encouraging others to do the same, are respected. Summary In the West, matters related to sex are often religious and ideological taboos, making them highly sensitive topics. Expressing seemingly trivial opinions or revealing sexual preferences can lead to social ruin, unlike in Japan. Therefore, it is crucial to understand Western viewpoints and recognize where potential pitfalls lie. Ideally, we should strive for mutual understanding through frank cultural exchange, but in the West, it is not advisable to argue casually about delicate topics like sex with someone you do not know well. While Japanese social pressure might lead to something as minor as a flat tire, Western social pressure can lead to serious personal harm. Always be cautious! How to Respond to "Why Are Girls' Breasts Emphasized in Japanese Anime?" When responding to Westerners' questions about why girls' breasts are emphasized in Japanese anime, it is essential to be mindful of their perspective, where adults vehemently criticizing and ostracizing the depiction of young, beautiful women may seem peculiar to Japanese eyes but is seen as a virtuous and responsible stance in the West. If someone you recommended an anime to reacts by saying they aren't interested in such explicit content and runs away, don't laugh or persist in recommending it. They likely have ideological or belief-based reasons for abstaining from watching such anime. If someone reacts by calling you a degenerate or immoral for liking such anime, do not get angry. Provoking their sense of justice could lead to a dangerous situation. Even if surrounded by an angry crowd, do not apologize, cry, flee, or let them see your fear. Losing face and social standing could escalate the situation to lynching. Stay calm and composed, smile, and nod in agreement until their excitement subsides. Once they calm down, compliment their virtue: Praise points: * Strong sense of social responsibility. * Strong sense of justice. * High sense of purpose. * Willingness to sacrifice for their beliefs. * Well-educated. * Actively spreading their beliefs.
  4. Getting to visit anime stores and buy lots of anime merch.
  5. Got a couple “metal Earth” models. These are like those precut flat-paper “insert tab A into slot B” type models only they’re made out of a thick metal foil instead of paper. One of the models is of the James Webb Space Telescope. The other one is of the Perseverance Mars rover. The rover includes the little drone / helicopter, Ingenuity. Now I just need to find the time to build them. There needs to be an "I understand completely" emoji.
  6. When mom crashed her car into a deer. I was just playing my Switch, so I wasn't paying attention as it was when all of a sudden we hear and felt a BANG that shook the whole car. Frankly I was shocked the car managed to make it home. Fortunately we crashed in front of the town though, so we didn't have to go far. Though the engine was smoking when we parked, and luckily it was a cold night so it cooled right off after she turned it off. Seems we've got some luck where it counts, but mostly we all just have rotten luck. She's since gotten the car fixed, but they fixed a few things wrong, so she needs to go back to them and try to find out about that. It was the most scared I've ever been in my entire life though. I'm someone who isn't afraid to die, but when something like that happens all at once it's still surprising in a scary way. What's your favorite anime pet or animal-like companion?
  7. do you guys prefer the neon genesis evangelion og anime, rebuilds or the manga? personally my favorite is the og anime, because it hits home to me and i really like how they explore the characters, but i really wanna hear other people's opinions
  8. I don't really order dessert anymore because of how much I devour at the entree(I think that's what entree means). lol What anime character(s) do you resonate with the most?
  9. I guess I don't really consider Kikyo as ending up with Inuyasha since Kagome states over and over in the anime that she is -NOT- Kikyo and gets angry when people mistake her as Kikyo. And there is the whole episode where ..... Which I felt bad about since I actually liked her despite the fact most people didn't really. & Sakura lied to Naruto when she "confessed" so I guess I don't really count that either, especially since they never dated or ended up together despite Naruto crushing on her most of the show. When she did confess Naruto called her a liar and told her he hated people that lie to themselves I think if I remember correctly. She was only lying to him to get him to try to stop pursing Sasuke.
  10. I think all fandoms in general have the crazy people in them that are toxic for no reason. It gets annoying to like things and go online to try to find other people that like this thing, then you get bombarded by toxic fans because you don't know as much as they do because you just became a fan of the said thing. God forbid you be a new fan of something and say the -wrong- thing because you don't know. This made me stick to staying off most social media and conversing about anime or anything really included. The only anime fan place I now visit is here.
  11. ALL of the “Big 3” are overrated IMO. One Piece is actually the one with the greatest appeal for me as I watched up to around ep 150 before burning out & it is the only one I even remotely consider revisiting some day. The anime I’ve stayed with the longest is probably MHA (just watched ep 141) & frankly seasons 4&5 were disappointing & what got me interested again in season 6 was that it at least seemed to put the “End” in sight. It’s an rare series that can keep my interest for 100 episodes & most need far less. A satisfying conclusion can lead to an enduring legacy, conversely dragging things out to cash in on a pre-established fandom inevitably leads to embarrassment. And not just for anime (Star Wars, Star Trek, Dr. Who, The Simpsons, etc.)
  12. I tried to watch it years ago, I think I made it about 12 or 13-ish episodes in, but I just lost interest. There are more episodes in that show than I'll ever be able to see at the snail's pace I watch anime these days. I'm doing good just to get a couple episodes of Inuyasha in when I get home in the evenings before having trouble keeping my eyes open. And yes, fandom (and just hype in general) has ruined a few things for me (AoT and Chainsaw Man being two of them, perhaps also the majority of the Marvel movies too). I typically lose interest in things that are overly hyped and when people obsessively and constantly fan out over it. Not necessarily saying that being obsessed or passionate about something is a bad thing in and of itself, as long as the person(s) understands that not everybody is into whatever they are, and they know when and who it's appropriate to nerd out over it to and when and who it isn't.
  13. I'm not really much of a One Piece fan. I tried to get into it and watching something like 30ish episodes and couldn't find the appeal. I see that a lot of people like it but for me it seems like an overrated anime just on my personal experience of not being able to get into it at all and I couldn't find the appeal. I have a typical rule of staying out of most fandoms these days because ya, fans are toxic in most of them.
  14. I think it is a good anime too but yes on the overrated part. I do thing it is very prolonged though and the anime is very extended, it feels as if there are far too many episodes if you are coming in to just watching it you would be overwhelmed with the amount of episodes you have to watch. I have never really talk to a lot of other One Piece fans though so I cannot speak on if they are toxic in the fandom however I do find most fandoms of anything can be toxic.
  15. Quite simply yes.It is a good anime but overrated
  16. I was just thinking about several anime pairs who clearly care for each other but never quite make it official. Take Riza Hawkeye and Roy Mustang – duty to their country keeps them apart. Then there's Violet Evergarden and Gilbert; their love is tragic, with Gilbert choosing to stay away for Violet's sake. Mikasa and Eren also come to mind – their different paths keep them apart. And Maka and Soul stay firmly in the friend zone, focusing on their growth and partnership. These stories show that sometimes love isn't about being together, but about sacrifice and personal growth. But I still ship them
  17. Still doing farming on RS. You max out at level 99 in a skill on this game, at 13m XP. I am now up to 17M XP in the farming skill and still haven't got the farming pet I have the type of luck where I could get 200m XP and still not have it ;-; But I'm hoping I get it soon. I had it on a different account at barely 1m XP.
  18. Don't get me wrong I'm a big one piece fan but i have issues with anime and one piece fans First thing why one piece pacing is so bad in anime manga is far better in pacing and I just don't understand why the hell in anime they show us each and every characters reaction to a certain incident like literally each and every character!! And why the story have to be so prolonged I mean correct me if I'm wrong I enjoy one piece's quirkiness but i dont think it has a greater storyline i mean oda is a good story teller but not a good writer in my opinion don't get me wrong I really liked the whole cake saga but in each and every arc and saga things tend to be repetitive like the strawhats go to an island get split up coz of some reason and till each and every strawhat is delt with a boss luffy doesn't show up to the main boss and this is basic outline of every arc I mean why and if it's taking a lot of episodes to tell a small story( a arc story) then it's not a good storytelling And why does toei have issues with pacing like they show the intro then pervious episode's shit then some other character's shit who is basically not even a significant character and then some flashback then the outro and the preview of next episode that's it And I feel toei hates sanji And one piece fans are toxic See one piece is good but there are more good anime too And stop the debate about which is better one piece or naruto Well that would be an interesting debate But for the next time
  19. Depends on how you do it. I recently saw a "toy hauler" type RV, the 2024 wolfpack 365pack16, that comes complete with living room, bedroom, kitchen, porch, and attached garage. The bedroom has a king-sized bed, built-in wardrobe, and an en-suite bathroom with shower. The kitchen has a stove, sink, microwave, side-by-side refrigerator/freezer and pantry. There's even air conditioning and a fireplace! Put some solar panels and a mobile starlink ground station on the roof and you're good to go. Actually cheaper per sq foot/meter than your average "entry level" shack here in sunny So. Calif. too. (Wish I were joking.) Not sure if you can still call it "camping" at that point however.
  20. Myouya

    wassup

Greetings and welcome to Anime Forums! Enjoy your stay
  21. hi!! I was looking for anime forums where I can connect with people with my interests, so naturally, I came across this site!! I don't really want to say my name, so just calling me ribit is fine. I really like neon genesis evangelion, and am obsessed with shinji (I even am in the process of making a small shrine). I also really like chainsawman. some of my other interests that I don't talk about as much are bungo stray dogs, the summer hikaru died and yeah that's pretty much it lol. I also really like video games, my favorite ones are dark souls 2 and final fantasy 16! I have all from the soulsborne games (except for the demon's souls remake, I only have the old one on my ps3), even though I'm not very good at video games. I like metal music, my favorite bands are bestial bukkake and korn. I'm an artist too! my art is decent, in my opinion, so I'll probably be sharing it a lot. I wanted to start writing too, but for now my writing stays in my notes app, lol. I hope this is a good intro, I am not good at making them!!!!! I hope I'll have fun here, this seems like a nice site
  22. Today was playing an amazing anime series game Naruto Senki, and had a lot of fun.!
  23. Lately so there has been a lot of robbery around where you are living? Have you had anything taken from you? Luckily for me the only thing that goes missing is the chips from my hand (or if I happen to have another snack of some type), but this is also the price of being someone's best friend for close to 20 years
  24. Helped mom cook dinner recently was the last thing I did for someone else. What's your favorite anime to relax to?
  25. The anime's name is Shimoneta to lu Gainen ga Sonzai Shinai Taikutsu na Sekai
