  1. Asano Inio and Kitoh Mohiro, my two go-to mangaka. Asano has some really cynical views about existential crisis that were best reflected in the popular Oyasumi Punpun. A lot of Asano's works actually helped me a lot in my youth when I was dealing with nihilism. The thing to note about his works is that he doesn't just write about how depressing and meaningless life can be, but also shed light on the positive side as well (like "Subarashii Sekai"). As for Kitoh, there are like only two works of his that I like, but they are two of my favorite manga ever: Bokurano and Shadow Star Narutaru. Kitoh is a deconstructionist who spoke on record about how manga had a tendency to tread familiar and formulaic territories, and he wanted to change that. Both of the aforementioned titles went against the expectations of the readers, especially Narutaru with the characters' many cruel fates. In a way, he's very much like the Urobuchi Gen of the manga world.

  3. Festival Episode The Festival Episode pops up much more often than the similar obligatory Beach Episode cliche. This is more due to Japanese culture being a significant part of anime, but it's still so annoying whenever I see one because they rarely have anything meaningful to add to the story. You could practically switch the festival with any holiday and it wouldn't make much difference to the story. The Power of Friendship Much like the aforementioned Deus ex Machina, this cliche appears in more than just anime, but that only goes to show how overused this tired trope is. Most sinners are of the shounen anime variety like Naruto, Fairy Tail, One Piece, etc. The power of friendship will magically solve any obstacle the heroes face. Forget about actual strategies or realistic solutions - friendship will solve anything. Antihero with Dark and Troubled Past Basically more than half of your shounen leads. This isn't as bad as the "Idiot Hero" cliche, but it's just as prevalent. The typical edgy antihero character has been one of the oldest cliches in the book, and while I do admit that they have the potential for greater depth in character, it's treading self-parody territory, if it hasn't already decades ago.
  4. I'm surprised there isn't one of these yet, considering all the awesome music video games have to offer. I know there are threads that posted music from visual novels in anime music threads, but I feel it's better to create a separate thread for both visual novels and video games, especially when many visual novels were never adapted into anime, so their definition as "anime music" is kinda... dubious. For me, my favorite is obviously Farewell from Steins;Gate: Ah, that never gets old. Someone bring me a bucket to cry in. And of course, can't forget about Believe Me: But the one I really wanted to post about today is Morphogenetic Sorrow from The Nonary Games series: It was originally from 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors, but they used it to great effect as well in Virtue's Last Reward, during Luna's ending (the best ending thus far in a heap of mediocre writing). I know so far I've only posted visual novel music, so here's one from my favorite video game: I especially love the parts of the song where the choir is singing. Last but not least, Leliana's Song from Dragon Age: Origins:
  5. To me, the shelf space feels more an obstacle than a problem. It's part of the charm of collecting manga and putting them up in your shelves the way one would decorate his room with anime merchandise. If I have more shelf space and purchased manga on my hands, I might have put them up too for display.

Yeah, the MyAnimeList forum tends to have that kind of effect on people. Much like many large Internet forums, it can feel very sparse and hard to connect with people. Smaller tight-knit forums like AF, therefore, feel much friendlier and easier to talk to people. Aside from the forums, do you have a MyAnimeList anime list? Like a list where you lists all the anime you've watched, etc.
  7. My bad, I should've been more specific. I meant to ask, which Persona game was your favorite? Also, have you played the Shin Megami Tensei series (the predecessor game series Persona belongs to)?

Ever been to MyAnimeList forums? How does it compare for you in contrast to Hummingbird forums' hostility?
  9. As an extension of my previous question: Which Persona is your favorite? Have you played Persona 3? Or the FES version of P3?
  10. Let's switch to something more light-hearted: who would you consider adding to your harem?

So, kitsu huh? Were you a former member of kitsu's predecessor, Hummingbird?

  13. Personally, I would love to have your luxury of having a barrage of questions to answer. One last question then: Since you mentioned Hyperdimension Neptunia, I'd assume you've played the RPG, and by extension, perhaps have an interest in JRPGs? If so, what's your favorite JRPG, aside from Hyperdimension Neptunia?
  14. Yep, that's it. I really didn't like the anime though. Like a lot of VN adaptations, it cut out a lot of necessary content. I don't know how the anime would look from the perspective of someone who hasn't played the game, but from my perspective, it was an utter mess. Also, I really hated that they took out the opening theme. That was an amazing song that added to the melancholic feel of the story. Finally, I feel like the animation looked really choppy compared to the visual novel, which is ironic, since anime should look better than a visual novel, not the other way around. The visual novel's CGs looked sleeker and more polished than the anime. I guess since you took the user title though, you must've liked it. I'd really recommend giving the h-game a try though. It's not your average hentai game, whatever the anime might have suggested. The sexual content is relevant to the story and isn't just there for arousal.
  15. I'm curious about your user title. Is it referring to the h-game, "euphoria"?

I could totally relate with that. It's the same thing with Singapore's (pathetic excuse for a) Universal theme park. Way too expensive just to pay a casual visit. I guess there's a reason why they called it a "resort". It's a shame though. I'd have imagined families bringing their kids to Disneyland every Christmas like some kind of picturesque image in my head. I didn't realize how costly the actual experience is.
