  1. The black box (usually actually orange or yellow so they can find it after a crash) records all the flight data and conversations in the cockpit, which will give them an idea of what happened and how the pilots responded to it. I imagine it’s a fair bit of data to go through and they would also need to go through it all multiple times for an investigation. For some reason they haven’t opened the black boxes yet (one is to record the flight data and the other is the one that records the cockpit sound) from the Air India crash and it’s not totally clear as to why it’s being delayed.
  2. I really like baking, but I tend to go long periods without making anything. The last couple days I’ve been making cookies and muffins

@Ayame thanks for the links! @Sakura I’ll let you know! I have plans tomorrow to play Gartic Phone with a different forum group and if it goes anything like our Among Us play sessions then we’ll be at it for hours lmfao

Had a chance to see what the difference is between members and non-members. Considering I don’t know if I’ll even like the game or not and I probably wouldn’t get to play more than once a week (if that), I would stick with the non-membership option for now. If I have time tomorrow, I’m going to make an account and hop in to see what it’s all about.
  5. My mum is absolutely terrified of grasshoppers. Can’t blame her, really, it’s almost like they aim for her lmao
  6. You can also develop allergies at any time! I never had spring allergies until I was in my 20s, now I’m just used to having to take antihistamines all through spring summer lmfao

I missed out on the RuneScape craze back in high school because I was an isolated loner with no friends and didn’t have internet at home. I think I want to give it a try, any advice for complete newbies?
  9. Just realized I haven’t given a wildfire update! It’s listed as under control and nearly out. They’re leaving the evacuation alert in effect for a bit longer and keeping the sprinklers on the houses for a bit longer too (though they haven’t turned on at all for more than a week now). The campground next to us did get evacuated due to slope instability, but the houses are just far enough away to not need to be evacuated. There have been rocks and trees falling, which some people in town were freaking out about (it’s loud, it echoes, but it’s natural and to be expected after the fire because everything is unstable). I actually haven’t heard any of it because I’m usually either at work or dead asleep when it happens lmfao. So, we’re safe and all our stuff is unpacked and put away Today it’s cloudy and might rain, currently 16C=60.8F
  10. Got that Friday brain, ready for the weekend to start haha. Seems like a pretty chill day so far at work, but we’ve only just opened so that could very well change. Especially with the beer fest tomorrow, guaranteed there’s gonna be last minute orders
  11. For girls I’d like to see more Hazels, and for boys I think there should be more Dougs!
  12. My aunt’s are named Karen and Wendy! Sometimes auntie Karen can be overly paranoid about stuff (people driving, kids playing, pets outside, literally anything depending on her mood) so she wound up earning the nickname Karenoid! Don’t worry though, she’s fully aware of it and finds it just as funny as we do, so much so that she’s even referred to herself as Karenoid on occasion Auntie Wendy’s middle name is Reigh, pronounced like Ray, which I think sounds pretty cool. I guess Nanny wanted something that rhymed with sleigh and settled on Reigh because she could get away with the unique spelling. Auntie Wendy happens to be an absolutely massive fan of Christmas and anything to do with Christmas, so the middle name actually suits her quite well!

    Plants

I have quite a small porch but I’m absolutely determined to make it fit ahahaha. I want to let it be as big as possible, but I’m hoping that even if the planter is a bit too small that maybe I can kinda sorta bonsai it and keep it smaller. ooh better idea! If I move it downstairs then I can put under my outdoor stairs, still gets lots of light down there and then it’s like a welcoming plant before people come up! no matter what, I want to get a pot that has caster wheels so it can be moved easily in the future. My Christmas cactus blooms pink! It didn’t bloom at all last year though, so I’m hoping it will do it this year. The light in my place is a bit strange and I’ve been having a killer hard time finding a spot that doesn’t try to kill the poor thing. It’s always a little sad looking, but it keeps growing so I’m at least doing something right, just gotta figure out how to do the rest of it right haha I need more muahaha

Also just wanted to add: for anyone that wants plants but tends to kill them? I highly recommend spider plants! They’ll grow in almost any conditions and even if they do start to die then they’re really easy to bring back. They also grow offshoots that can be planted in dirt and cut from the main plant once the roots take, so you can eventually end up with your very own spider plant jungle! NOTE FOR ANY CAT OWNERS: Spider plants are not dangerous for cats, but they are hallucinogenic! Some cats will go bonkers for it and will absolutely eat your plant. You can either try to find somewhere out of reach or just accept the fact that your spider plants will always have chewed leaves.

    Plants

I used to have a bunch of different plants, but a few of them died a couple years ago when we moved to our current place. Inside I’ve got a spider plant, a Christmas cactus, a jade plant with a spider plant (that needs to be relocated, it’s too healthy and will overpower the jade), a sad aloe plant that needs to be repotted, and some kind of vine thing that’s going absolutely crazy in my kitchen window (mum even took a bunch of cuttings from it recently for herself and it’s already as big as it was before she took them lmfao). Outside I have some petunias that I’m trying to figure out, the most dramatic jolly jump ups (a type of pansy) I’ve ever seen (if they’re thirsty, the entire plant goes totally flat like something sat in it, but then pops right back up shortly after watering), and a strawberry plant that is growing healthily but probably won’t produce berries until next year. Andy came home yesterday with a couple more plants for me. One is this super pretty purple thing that I know nothing about (salvia nemorosa/woodland sage). And the second plant he chose because it has a gorgeous pink bloom on it, but he didn’t realize it’s a young hydrangea shrub. So now we have a shrub and no yard to plant it in lmfao. That’s okay, I’m just gonna find a huge ass pot with casters so that it can still grow and will be easier to move around if needed. Hydrangea flowers will bloom different colours depending on the acidity of the soil. It’s in a neutral soil at the moment, so the flowers are vivid pink. They would bloom vivid blue if they were in a more acidic soil.
  16. I’ve been watching Apothecary Diaries and considering I binge like 8 episodes at a time, I think I might really like it lmfao
  17. Thanks everyone! I’ll keep you all updated and let you know if anything changes I’ll trade you a couple patches of blue sky for some of that rain, it’s a win-win!
  18. Wildfire update! So the fire has grown to 59.5 hectares (147 acres) BUT, the growth has slowed down, the fire is still moving away from us, and it’s even moved into more accessible terrain for the ground crews to get at it and the sky visibility has been clear enough for the helicopters and bombers to start early in the morning yesterday and today. They expect it to take at least another week before they manage to get the fire out. We’re still on evacuation alert, but I don’t think we’ll end up being evacuated as the perimeter of the fire is moving away from us. We loaded up our deep freeze and took it to a nearby relative’s house, which we’ll leave there until sometime next week just to be safe. We’re also still leaving the car mostly packed and ready to go, but we’ve started to bring a few things back into the house, just easy to grab, so that we don’t have to constantly be getting stuff in and out of the car. As part of the structural protection measures, all of the houses in our area have been equipped with at least two sprinklers each on our roofs that spray a wide perimeter around us and make sure everything stays wet. I’ve discovered a natural knack to be standing on our front stairs when the thing turns on, getting sprayed with freezing cold water each time lmfao. Today it’s cloudy and cooler than it has been the last few days, we’re hoping it’ll rain but there’s none in the forecast unfortunately.
  19. Shit. it’s now 14.4 hectares and not looking good.
  20. Thanks, we’ve got all the important stuff packed up and taken out of the house. Anything else can always be replaced, if it comes to that. Yeah, west coast of Canada. As far as wildfires go, this one is actually fairly small relatively speaking, but it’s extremely close to our house and the wind can make it worse at any moment. There’s a structural protection unit on site now and they’ve put great big sprinklers on top of the houses to help protect them. currently 24C=75.2F and sunny/smoky Thanks , it’s definitely more than a bit stressful, but we’re okay for now
  21. Fire is still listed as out of control and we’re on evacuation alert officially as of 11:30pm last night, but it hasn’t grown any larger than 5 hectares and crews are currently fighting it. Yesterday we had a couple of helicopters and waterbombers doing their thing (along with the ground crews). So far today there is 4 helicopters and a bunch of people on the ground. Fire has been determined to be human caused. And while I’m not surprised, I am definitely feeling a very intense anger in the very core of my being and it is absolutely justified. They started early this morning to try and control as much of it as possible before the wind picks up. The entire town is covered in smoke, I sincerely hope that the people responsible for the fire are choking on the smoke and suffering lung damage. Currently 23C=73.4 °F and apparently mostly sunny, though you can’t tell.
  22. I want something in my mouth. Maybe a chocolate almond. Or chips.
