  1. Was honestly considering not to bother since most folks here don’t seem interested in watching series while they’re airing.
Anyway, here’s what’s scheduled for the season

    https://www.livechart.me/fall-2023/tv

As to what I plan to watch, lots of sequels  (Dr. Stone, Spy x Family, , Goblin Slayer, Dead Mount Death Play, Ancient Magus Bride, Shield Hero, Eminence in Shadow, Faraway Paladin, Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent, Girlfriend Girlfriend) . JJK’s Shibuya Arc, Helck & Ruroni Kenshin will all carryover. Plus we finally get Attack on Titan grand finale in November. The Spy x Family movie and Reincarnated as a Slime OVA probably won’t be available in the states until next year.

As far as new stuff, I usually need to watch a couple eps before I decide if I’m interested. Pluto has an edge based on Naoki Urusawa’s reputation & Frieren seems to be getting a lot of hype over on MAL. Also kinda curious about Shy.

And maybe try to find time for live action One Piece, new Castlevania & Scott Pilgrim  on Netflix 😂

  2. Currently, sonewhere in the 50 - 100 range. I tend to watch seasonals primarily, 15 - 25 per season, but some are single cour, others are double or split. In addition,  I’ll also generally watch around a dozen anime movies or older series combined in a year.

As far as types, my MAL stats indicate Action, Fantasy & Comedy are my top tags. Personal observation is that I tend to like series with a supernatural angle to them.

I have Hell's Paradise and I wonder if it's worth watching?

As far as action goes, it comes close to Demon Slayer. But I feel it relies too much on blood, gore & shock value at the expense of characterization & writing. I still plan on checking out season 2 if/when there is one though. I would recommend Dororo as something similar but superior in those regards (plus it’s complete)if you haven’t already seen it (it’s from 2019 though)

  4. Blue Seed has the legendary dragon Orochi & the god Susanoo as antagonists.

Peach Boy Riverside draws on the fable of Momotaro.

Various yokai play prominent roles in Gegege no Kitaro, Ushio & Tora, Kemono Jihen & In/Spectre.

tsukumogami (inanimate objects that have acquired consciousness or a soul over time) are featured in Malevolent Spirits Mononogatari & Tsugumomo.

The fable of the Red Onj & the Blue Oni is the inspiration for Rem & Ram from Re:Zero. Other famous characters based on oni include Lum from Urusei Yatsura & the ogres from Reincarnated as a Slime.

  5. The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again Today - episode 11 was definitely the funniest one yet, pretty much laughed non-stop from start to finish. Though sometimes realizing how relatable Saku is makes me want to cry 😢 Level 1 Demon Lord & One Room Hero is still my hidden gem of the season, but this definitely deserves an honorable mention.

  6. short term: Pluto (Astro Boy reimagined by Naoki Urasawa of Monster fame)

    Longer term: Fate Strange/Fake

lots of other sequels I plan to watch this upcoming season (Dr. Stone, Spy x Family, Reincarnated as a Slime OVA, Goblin Slayer, Ancient Magus Bride, Shield Hero, Eminence in Shadow, Faraway Paladin, Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent) but my expectations are more reserved. And of course JJK’s Shibuya Arc will carry over.

Mythological creatures are such a broad topic that sometimes its difficult to tell what is the contemporary creator's imagination and what isn't. I find that particularly to be the case with Ghibli films. Is there some giant-bug beast the Ohm are based on, or did Miyazaki just think it'd be cool to have giant bugs?

Like Mushishi where the creatures aren’t traditional yokai, but they have a similar feel to them. Or stepping away from asian culture, you can see the influences of Beowulf & Arthurian legends in J.R.R. Tolkein’s works, but he basically “created” a distinct mythology that has been referenced and copied over & over in RPGs & fantasy anime.

  8. Welcome 😁Hope you find things to interest you here & decide to stick around.

Since you like Attack on Titan, I recommend 86 & Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. Noein is an older series that is similar to Summertime Rendering. For drama & romance I recommend the Fruits Basket remake (2019-2021).

  9. It’s definitely one of the more enjoyable shonen anime for me personally, though I wasn’t much of a fan to begin with (started liking it better once Senku met Kohaku & the other villagers). Feel like the first half of New World was a bit of a tease, just setting up what’s to come so looking forward to the continuation starting next month.

  10. @Animedragon Happy Birthday 🎂 🎈

  11. Honestly my usual reaction to the term “Big 3” is to roll my eyes as the defining characteristics seem to be shonen & episode counts in the hundreds, neither of which is a strong selling point for me. My Hero Academia probably comes the closest to me, even though it’s largely fell out of favor within the anime community. Understandable as seasons 4 & 5 were both disappointments for me, but season 6 actually got me hyped again & seems like the end game may actually be in sight (hopefully within 2 more seasons). I’m enjoying JJK2, but not sure how many seasons that would last. My interest & appreciation for Demon Slayer sadly diminishes with each following season.

As far as what I consider exceptional titles that have the potential to keep going for considerably longer, I’d probably say the Fate franchise & Vinland Saga.

  12. As far as non-anime, I think Mel Blanc & Tress MacNeille get top honors, though special mention to Mark Hamill’s portrayal of The Joker.

Other instantly recognizable voices: Tim Curry, John Astin, Don Adams, Hans Conreid & Paul Lynde.

  13. If you think tanuki are weird/confusing, imagine an anime that combines them with rakugo (traditional Japanese storytelling as an art form & form of entertainment)spacer.png

yes, I actually watched the whole thing. Definitely odd, but also kind of charming & even a little educational about Japanese culture.

Butt don’t even get me started on kappa :P
