  1. Apologies if there's a thread like this already, but I felt the need to post about websites where you can shop for anime...as well as where not to look (aka, where they have bootlegs). Tell me if you have any sites to look out for. Definitely to look; RightStuf and Amazon are pretty legit places to look around in. The latter may have some bootlegs, but more often than not, you'll find legits. Though the latter may have problems with individual sellers, so proceed with caution. Mixed bag; eBay. You could find either legits OR bootlegs here. And trust me, it varies from seller to seller. Like with Amazon, individual sellers may be good or bad. Don't do it; Animepromo.com. Now, it may seem cool at first; good selection of anime, a good chunk of which are out of print, at a fairly low price. But there's one huge problem; most, if not all of what they sell are probably bootlegs. Region 0 DVDs are a rather telling sign, for most legit companies ensure their DVDs have a region code. Also, many of them say Vol. 1-[however many episodes] END, which I find to be another clue, since most companies don't type like that (or at least don't put END after the episode numbers). My brother showed me this site, but while he thinks it's legit, I think it's a phony. That's all I'm aware of. Anywhere else you wanna share, or talk about your experiences with?
  2. Cardcaptor Sakura. The Animax dub, to be precise. It's quite good so far. Though I'm annoyed that NISA's DVDs came in this case where the discs are stacked on top of each other. I bought better cases that don't do that and put the discs in those, but I shouldn't have had to do that to start with, especially since I'm left with the worse cases that I have no idea what to do with.
  3. My brother once told me of a site for buying anime...but I'm pretty well convinced most, if not all of their selection are bootlegs.

As a result, I rarely even consider going to the site for anything beyond a checklist of anime that might catch my eye...and even there, I check for legits.

  4. I've become fearful of any more betrayal, be it me, my friends, or me and my friends. I've seen far too much of it. Usually either for the stupidest of reasons, or for absolutely no reason. It's been happening over the past few months, and it's making me a hell of a lot less trusting. I want to ask; is there something in the air that's causing people to betray others for their own gain, regardless of who it hurts? Is it a betrayal contest? What is it?! I'm worried about who's next; either way, I want the betrayal to just stop!
  5. Why is there so much betrayal? WHY?! I just want it to STOP!

  6. Oh, been looking into some old anime, by the way. I really ought to catch up on the classics.

  7. Huh. I think I like Animax's Cardcaptor Sakura dub. I don't know if the dub was made in the 90s, but it has a 90s feel to it, which fits.

  8. Looking at the reviews for Animax's dub of Carcaptor Sakura...wow, are opinions all over the place. Guess I'll just have to watch for myself

  9. You say you want 'em all? One at a time, Optic. Pick the one you want most and get the rest later. Or...which one's the cheapest? Start with that one.
  10. Hitoshi Ariga (Mega Man Megamix and Gigamix). His art is amazing, and his storytelling is great, too.
  11. I'm thinking I might have to check out Sakura Trick one of these days. It actually sounds like it'd be an adorable story.

I started watching it a couple of days ago, it is very adorable.

Sakura Trick is super adorable! I love it so much! It's the best shoujo ai anime I've ever watched!

I do see the DVDs aren't dubbed, of course. While I would prefer dubbed, subbed is fine by me. And of course, I'm fond of adorable stories.

  12. I want one. I don't have a smartphone, but I've kinda gotten into figure collecting.
  13. I've kinda learned that an excess of fanservice may actually turn me off from a series if it gets really distracting. I may have a perverted side (that I would very much like to be rid of), but there are some things that not even being a pervert will save. It's why I couldn't really get into Senran Kagura in spite of my efforts; regardless of how well made and how well written it may be, the fanservice actually makes me uncomfortable playing and watching it. Like, I feel less amused and more like I should be getting as far away from it as possible. Certain events merely solidified it, but the discomfort started. Another thing I dislike, is story arcs taking forever to just end. No seriously, just end already! This isn't like a myth arc, either. It's when a specific arc seem to take an eternity. Enough to make you worry that it won't end, at least not without taking the show with it in the process. Funny thing is, cuteness actually attracts me to a series. I'm weird like that.
  14. Every single original Xbox controller I ever owned had something wrong with it. I'm thinking I'll just buy a PS2-Xbox adapter instead.

  15. Reviving an old thread...I'm an oddball who prefers my anime dubbed. I'm not saying I can't watch it with subtitles; in fact, I can watch it subbed just fine, especially since some anime never got dubs, like the very original Lupin III anime and some Di Gi Charat series. Heck, some anime, like the second Lupin III anime, never got to finish their dubs, so you have to watch them subbed for the remaining episodes anyways. But I prefer dubs, because I do. Never had an issue with characters speaking English.
  16. Yeah, they were very professional about it, which makes me want to buy from them again...and have on some occasions.
  17. Lupin III (Green Jacket). It's very 1970s, and I love it so far.
  18. I think I said this before, but I literally see anime as "Japanese-made cartoons." They're both animation, just using different terms.
  19. If you're like me, you've learned to get used to different artstyles from a young age. Whether or not it's pleasing creates a whole other can of worms, however, and even if the character designs are excellent, poor and off model animation and/or art can kill it. In the case of poor art and animation, the story needs to hold it up in order for it to remain watchable; not even having that is bad, but that's another discussion. This doesn't just apply to anime, either; this applies to animation, period.
  20. Having seen both English dubs of Castle of Cagliostro...I don't know if I prefer the older or newer dub; I like 'em both!

  21. "Hiatus" could mean quite a few things. In a good chunk of cases, it's essentially another word for "cancelled." But not always, so there's hope it'll return. In this case, they could be waiting for the manga to have more material. People hate filler, and more material to adapt means less filler. Though who knows what exactly is going on.
  22. It seems...events, affected me in such a way as to render me uncomfortable even LOOKING at the waifu thread...rather unfortunate, I say...

  23. Sounds similar to an experience I had with Play-Asia. Just replace "defective item" with "wrong game." I ordered Puyo Puyo Tetris and got a K-On! game last year. I was infuriated, and would have been even more so had I not gotten Star Fox Adventures and Star Fox Assault the same day (great games, by the way). I like K-On!, don't get me wrong, but I didn't order a K-On! game, dang it! Fortunately, they realized their mistake, so I sent the K-On! game back, and they apologized for the error. I eventually got Puyo Puyo Tetris. Later than I'd have liked, but I got it. So their customer service is very reliable and professional, at least. Glad to hear things got sorted out on your end, Optic. Hope you enjoy the show!
  24. I decided or order Lupin III (Green Jacket). Figure after Castle of Cagliostro, I should start with the original anime, at least.
