  1. Surprised no one brought up Rurouni Kenshin yet. Gives you some details (even if not totally accurate) on Japanese history (and also etiquette) at the downfall of the Tokugawa era and beginning of the early Meiji era. I find historical Japanese culture in anime much more interesting than contemporary one, for some reason.
  2. I didn't know the English term for that fruit and heard it here for the first time. Elderberry sounds like something out of a game Like it will have some kind of aging effect on you when consumed
  3. Just watched episode 6 as well. I'm not really a big fan of anime that have an in-game style. It even bothered me in that island in Hunter Hunter. In Shield Hero I think it is well-made though, not too intrusive. As for the plot itself. I liked the twist in the beginning, and that the other heroes are more or less decent. I do dislike Spear Hero, even if he was often mislead by misleading information, he still wanted to charge the silver coins in that village. What kinda bothers me is the whole guy traveling with young girls thing. I know that is popular but personally I always find it unfitting to the story as a whole. That's probably the biggest thing I remark. All in all it is quite interesting, and I'm curious to see what will happen with that cursed crop.
  4. Kind of a strange topic but what do you guys think about getting older? I think the users here span quite an age range so it would be interesting to see what you guys think. I didn't really care when I was younger, but the older I'm getting the more I don't like getting older. Can't really find a thing that is getting better when becoming older, in my case.
  5. Hi Cypher, I'm quite new here too but I think it's a great forum
  6. @Seshi Do you recommend it? I haven't seen it yet but have seen that people talk about it. I might check it out and when I do we can keep this thread going
  7. @Nono That's exactly what my work looks like (how do you tag people? now it worked just by adding the at sign)
  8. I have quite a few relatives in southern California. I thought it was supposed to always be sunny, with a slight chance of rain every few months? Also, are you putting two spaces after a period? Just wondering, because I heard of such a thing but had not encountered it yet.
  9. I opened the spoiler for a fraction of a second but saw that it is probably going to spoil something. I think the manga goes even beyond the escape arc? So it will probably be quite a while (next season) until I can open that spoiler
  10. Gintama Offers One Probable Scenario MKASD
  11. Yeah, it is quite a strange thing when you finish a long anime. But then again, maybe spending some time here on Anime Forums helps
  12. Thanks a bunch for all the suggestions! I knew/watched a couple of these but others I didn't know and am going to check out. I actually started Baka no Test a few weeks ago but for some reason it slipped my mind again - probably because of work. Anyway, I'll have a look
  13. Currently I'm watching The Promised Neverland and Dororo, which are both quite dark. I really like comedic anime or anime that are easy-going, but kinda don't know any that are specifically what I'm looking for. So I'm looking for something that is not too short. It should have more than 12/13 episodes, the more the better, and it should really be 'family-friendly' if you know what I mean. I really liked Nichijou or School Rumble. It doesn't have to be a comedic anime per se, but should overall have a light, easy-going atmosphere. So I would still count Rurouni Kenshin, because it has a lot of those scenes, even if it is rather serious sometimes. Would be great if you guys had any recommendations
  14. We should just create a 90's city, where only people from that era can live - problem solved.
  15. Gotta ask, how does this happen? I assume you speak Czech and Japanese then? That's not a common combo is it?
  16. As for turning things super saiyan, definitely a sloth, IF it stays at the same speed. It would be a terrifyingly powerful but so slow that you could just walk away, the perfect disguise.
  17. Yeah, it sure does. Never thought I would feel old in my twenties, but boy that went downhill.
  18. Hard to say really. There are some really messed up scenes in it, but it is overall quite upbeat and positive (at least compared to the setting of war)
  19. There are some places that teach philosophy at school, but usually it isn't regarded as worthwhile teaching. I had a debate with some people about it, and a colleague made a pretty interesting point. To argue that philosophy isn't worthwhile is already making a philosophical claim. I get what people mean though, when compared to other fields where the results are directly connected to what you want (for example designing a drug to cure a disease). Philosophical results have more far reaching consequences, kinda like math in a way. Edit: if you are interested in something particular open a topic and we can debate it
  20. I was wondering, what everyone watches on Youtube? Here are a few that I like: Brave Wilderness (interesting animals, although the commercialization is getting a bit much) Life Where I'm From (interesting view of Japan and Japanese culture) TheOdd1sOut (hilarious) Any anime-related channels you recommend?
  21. I used to be a scientist, but now I am a philosopher. Scientific research was way too time-consuming which was only one of the reasons I now do philosophy. I was lucky that my parents supported me and that I got state funding, and that universities are free here. Interesting to see that so many people here work in the medical (or related) field.
  22. This reminds me of the phlogiston theory. People tried to explain why some things get heavier when they are burned and tried to explain it by saying that something with negative mass is lost, thereby increasing mass. This was shown to not be the case. Concerning mass, you should distinguish between mass and weight. Weight is what we usually mean by mass in everyday life. Mass in physical terms is hard to understand, because it is used in different ways. Generally, as far as I know negative energy/mass is used in a couple of theories but I don't know if there is any testable evidence on that. Maybe you'll find this interesting? http://www.edition-open-sources.org/sources/5/24/ If you are really interested in it, and know higher maths, I can also send you the full article.
  23. Do you live in the US? If so, I'm really wondering why your taxes are so high in the end. Especially when your healthcare and other social systems are not that great compared to wealthy European countries, Canada or Japan - no offence though. I pay 50% taxes, healthcare, retirement and social security tops. Usually it is less than that but it depends on your income and other things. And I don't really mind since I and others get quite a lot. I think the US has a much more anti-socialist, 'keep the government out' mentality, if I'm not mistaken. That's why I wonder even more that you'd pay so much in taxes.
  24. So anyone seen the latest episode? I kinda didn't get the whole Ray thing. If it is in fact the case what he says, like Emma I kinda find it hard to accept that he would willingly help deport others just for him himself to escape. Also in the end I'm pretty sure it is going to be Norman, Ray or Emma that is entering the room. It would be kind of a giveaway if it really were who they think it is.
