Too old for anime

Recommended Posts

You’re never too old to watch anime. Just because it’s animation doesn’t mean you should stop watching it at a certain age. If you like it, you like it and there isn’t anything wrong with that. That’s what I say about adults watching cartoons, too.

What like Card Captor Sakura?

I have that on both DVD and Blu-ray as it's one of my favourite series.

Considering there’s anime spread across all the different age ratings, I’d say that we’re definitely not too old for anime.

And even then, watch what you like, who cares what audience it’s targeted at, never too old. My husband and I are 33 and 34 and we are thoroughly enjoying Sailor Moon Crystal. We also watch more mature anime too that is absolutely not for kids.

I'll never feel too old to watch anime either.

Although I too have noticed that my tastes and preferences have changed, I have some anime series in my cupboard that I look at today and wonder what I ever thought was so good about them.

When i was "young" i only wanted to watch action anime. But now i get older, i dont always feel the need. When i am tired or stressed, i prefer to watch something slower. Hahaha i even watch trash anime

This is the way I look at it: You got 50-60 (or older!) year-olds that animate or still dish out manga series I think it's a generational advantage that we have, in this day and age, that a new anime comes out year, after year, after year, so we have the ability to enjoy it as we grow up.

In short, to answer your question: no. You're never too old to watch anime.

Anime is a genre and is not a cartoon. This is something that previous generations didn't understand but is changing fast. I feel like if I was going to lose the interest in anime it would have already happened years ago.

I don't consider myself too old for anime and I'm in my 20s. My parents, in particular my dad, watches anime still and he's 51. There's plenty of people even older than that who enjoy it. For that reason I think anime has something enjoyable for you no matter what your age is. Anime is more than just "cartoons" which it seems people who don't watch it and know nothing about it try to label it as.

You're never too old for anime. That said, I totally get what you're saying. There does seem to be a point where you just… get tired of it. I've been there myself.

But I’ve found that it’s not about age so much as burnout. It happens with anything — video games, movies, music, even reading. Sometimes your brain just needs a break. Forcing yourself to keep watching when you’re not feeling it can make it worse.

What’s worked for me is stepping away for a bit. No pressure, no guilt. After a while, that old excitement starts to creep back in.
