Animedragon Posted April 25, 2025 Share Posted April 25, 2025 I don't agree that SAO as a whole is overrated, but parts of it certainly are. The first arc of season 1 (eps 1-14) are great, the rest not so. Two of the movies; Aria of Sleepless Night, and Aria of Deep Night are very good, while Ordinal Scale is OK. To my mind one of the most overrated anime is Evangelion, when if first came out it was a pretty ground breaking series, but they made the storyline far too complex and convoluted, bodged the final two episodes and then spent years issuing new movies to try and sort out the mess. Really enjoyed the first 2 1/2 seasons & season 7. The rest have been lacking to some degree IMO & glad they’re finally getting ready to wrap it up. Been watching the spin-off series Vigilantes, but it’s just alright. As far as the movies, thought Heroes Rising was excellent, but others are meh. They liked Sword of the Stranger and Samurai Champloo more than Rurouni Kenshin like my friend! Yes, it got insane hype and some fans act like it's flawless, but I still enjoy it despite its pacing issues in certain seasons and some of the convoluted plot developments later on. But genuinly that is on my top 3 animes. It's the first anime to ever make me laugh and I love the animation and everything.
