Did you "Loira do banheiro" translates to "blonde girl of the bathroom" in Portuguese, and is a popular Brazilian urban legend about a ghostly female figure who is said to haunt school toilets, often causing fear among children who are afraid to use the restroom at school.

Does she do anything or does she just float around and watch you go to the bathroom? If so, that's pretty weird of her. On the other hand, the bathroom is the place to be if you're going to get the crap scared out of you 🤣

The is the Brazilian version of Bloody Mary that is more familiar in America and Europe.

According to legend the below explanation is the most likely identity of the ghost girl who appears in restrooms and why.

Spoiler

This legend supposedly arose from a true story about a girl called Maria Augusta de Oliveira Borges, born at the end of the 19th century, in Guaratinguetá, São Paulo. The young woman would have been forced by her father to marry at the age of 14 with a much older man. Unhappy with the marriage, the girl would have sold her jewelry and fled to Paris, aged 18. At the age of 26, Maria would have died.

The young woman's mother decided to take the body back to Brazil. Until the tomb was built, the corpse would have been kept in a glass urn in the family mansion for public viewing. After a while, Maria's mother would have decided not to bury her daughter. However, after several alleged visions of the girl asking for her to be buried, the mother finally decides for the burial.

About a decade later, in 1902, the house gave way to the Conselheiro Rodrigues Alves State School. Rumors that the spirit roamed the school already existed, but the story of the “Blonde in the Bathroom” gained strength when a mysterious fire compromised part of the building in 1916. According to legend, the spirit walks through the school bathrooms opening faucets to quenching her thirst and asking to be buried.

It is indeed a sad story, but a young girl being forced into marriage with a much older man was not unusual in the 18th and 19th centuries among the rich and powerful families where marriage was seen as a way of cementing allegiances rather than anything else.

Did you know in Fiji when a man wants to propose to a woman, the groom and his family will present the bride's father with a whale's tooth when asking for permission? The practice is more common in rural areas. The tooth, known as a tabua, translates to "sacred" in Fijian.

It's illegal to acquire the whale teeth if the whale was an endangered species at the time it was killed. The type usually gifted in Fiji are Sperm whale teeth and Sperm whale has been endangered since the 1970's. In many countries and states in the USA it is illegal to buy, sell, trade, or own whale teeth.

The UK Ivory Act makes it illegal to trade in ivory and has been extended to include elephants, hippos, walruses, narwhals, sperm whales, and orcas.

Maybe that was a necessary step. Although there's still going to be a black market for it, unfortunately.

Did you know in the year 2023 that 21 species of animals were declared extinct? Some of these include the San Marcos gambusia, eight types of freshwater mussels, and the Bachman's warbler.

You would think in this day and age we would be smart enough to have learned how to take care of the other creatures that share this planet with us, whether it's animals or plants, but it seems to be only getting worse. No excuse for that many creatures going extinct :/

Did you know that Christmas decorating sends nearly 15,000 people to the ER every year? Most recent news release estimates that 14,700 people visit hospital emergency rooms each November and December from holiday-related decorating accidents — which is about 240 injuries per day. The most common accidents involve falling, lacerations and back strains.

Lmao and we were almost one of them when we almost fell off the chair putting up the garland from the ceiling xD

I'm no really terribly shocked though given how hard it can be to put up Christmas decorations and some people gotta climb around on their roof and everything else, it's really such a hassle.

I'm way less surprised by anything people do after watching 1,000 Ways to Die. The neighbor next to my dad's house was putting up decorations on his roof at a time when there was an icy and snowy mix on the ground and roof. It looked like a quick way to meet God to me 😩
