  1. How are you finding Ai Yori Aoshi? I thought that it couldn't make up its mind what sort of series it was. The first 4 episodes set it up as a nice little Slice of Life series about two people trying to live their lives together despite family opposition, then in episode 5 it suddenly became full-on Harem series with the guy banished to an outhouse while all the girls, and the maid/housekeeper lived in the mansion. In subsequent episodes I thought it kept swapping between being an SoL and a Harem series.
  2. A Place Further Than The Universe. (2018) This series charts the adventures of four high school girls who join a scientific expedition to Antarctica. The early episodes explore the reasons why each of the girls wants to join the expedition and all the efforts they need to go through to convince the expedition organisers to give them a place. Once they've got their places they have to go through various training exercises to prepare them to survive in what is a very inhospitable environment. Unlike other series with similar storylines the four girls are essentially passengers, they have no special responsibilities and no assigned tasks other than producing a video report of their trip. They are however expected to help with unloading supplies and take their turn with domestic chores etc. The series gives a realistic depiction of the dangers and hardships faced by people working on an Antarctic expedition, but also shows the enthusiasm of the expedition's members for what they are doing and their determination to carry out their mission. On the outward sea voyage all four girls are violently ill when the ship encounters a major storm at sea and when they arrive at the base they experience the extreme cold of the Antarctic continent. Later on while on a trip away from the main base they learn of the dangers of an Antarctic blizzard where a single simple mistake or lapse of concentration could cost them their lives, but they are also overwhelmed by the beauty of the Antarctic landscape. This is a very good and highly enjoyable series with an excellent storyline, an interesting cast of characters and very good animation and artwork. 9/10
  3. I've just noticed that I won the day yesterday, which takes my total of 'days won' to 50, which I think is quite impressive. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

It also quite possibly means that I spend far too much time on AF ! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

  4. I've started watching "Fuuka" looks like an interesting story with a good cast of characters.
  5. It's the usual horrible January weather, dull, overcast, cold and raining.
  6. I really enjoyed that one & am curious to hear what you think when you finish it. I've now finished watching "A Place Further Than The Universe" and thoroughly enjoyed watching it. As the series progresses the storyline becomes more serious and there is a definite air of realism in the depiction of the journey to Antarctica and the activities of the team once they arrive. The final episodes are particularly well written and presented. It's definitely a series I'd like to watch again.
  7. Eric Investigates Elementary Ions Objectively GWKEF
  8. Wings of Honneamise : Royal Space Force. Released in 1987 this film is generally regarded as an anime classic. It tells the story of Shitotsugh Lhadatt who is a member of the "Royal Space Force", a branch of the military that is regarded as a joke by everyone, and his aim of being the first man in space. The RSF's team of ageing scientists is up against a corrupt government and a military that intend to use the RSF's space programme to start a war. This is a good film and worth adding to anyone's collection, but sadly I think that in common with some other anime from the 1980's it has not really stood the test of time. 5/10
  9. K-On! (2009) Where does one start with reviewing K-On? It's a slice of life series about a group of girls who are members of their High School's Light Music Club. The club's activities largely consist of drinking tea, eating cake and occasionally practising. Seems like quite a dull boring series doesn't it? Well, you're wrong! Despite its simple premise this is a highly enjoyable series with a well developed and interesting cast of characters. The series has two seasons and a movie and through them we follow the members of the Light Music Club from their first year at High School through to their last year, and we share in the highs and lows of their three year school life during which time they drink a lot of tea, eat a lot of cake and give concerts at the various school festivals. The movie does not attempt to condense the whole 40 episode series into 90 minutes like some do, instead it forms an excellent ending to the story. The artwork, animation, music, storyline and overall quality of this series is very high. This is a series you'll want to watch again, and again. 10/10
  10. A fad is something that goes in one era and out the other.
  11. Welcome aboard, your joining us is nothing to sneeze at. So pull up a cushion, or a chair if sitting on the floor isn't your thing, and make yourself at home.
  12. I've had that experience. Years ago I bought myself what looked like a nice winter jacket, just the thing I thought for waiting on wet windy railway stations. How wrong could I be!! The wind went straight through it, so unfortunately did the rain!
  13. I've started watching "A Place Further Than the Universe", I wasn't quite sure what to expect from a series based on a story about four high school girls who join an expedition to Antarctica but so far it's a really interesting series and I'm enjoying watching it.
  14. I've been watching a TV documentary called "The Trains that Changed the World" it's a really interesting programme charting how the coming of the railways changed just about every aspect of life and shaped the world we live in.
  15. Upgrading computers is always great fun, my experiences usually go like this: I like that new powerful CPU, ah, but I'll need a new motherboard to support it, oh and I'll need to replace the RAM because the RAM I've got isn't comparable with the new board, hang on I'll need a new graphics card because the new motherboard has a different slot and the old card won't fit.... And so it goes on and the price starts mounting up!
  16. I finished Anohana this evening. It took me a while to get into the story and work out all the characters and understand all the complicated relationships within the group but I enjoyed watching the series. The ending was more of a tear-jerker than I expected.
  17. I appear to have upset Microsoft . (Oh, dear what a pity, never mind! ) Every time I turn my main PC on I get a little message telling me that there is a problem with my Microsoft account, the "problem" is that I'm signing in using a local account. The reason I use a local account is because signing in with my Microsoft account breaks password protected file sharing so my other PCs can't access the main PCs transfer folder, signing in with a local account fixes this problem.
