I would be perfectly content living somewhere it never gets below 40F outside. That’s the nicest way I can say it, so if you’re a snow fan you may not want to read this next part I actually do have happy memories of Christmas time, but being outdoors aren’t really part of it. And since becoming an “adult”, winter weather is a nuisance at best if not a hindrance. As to activities I prefer hoodies to sweaters & bonfires/campfires to fireplaces. So for me at least Autumn is the ideal on every level (temperature, weather, activities, natural beauty/aesthetics)

Just saw on ANN that we’re getting another anime take on Anne of Green Gables. Not actually hype but find it kinda interesting that the works are continuing to get representation I know there’s been a couple anime adaptions & it was referenced in R.O.D. TV series (parallels between Anne/Diana & Anita/Hisami)

Certainly true. Ironically one of the most common complaints among anime fans is not having a single access point to everything they want. The downside to anime’s increased popularity is that big corporations now see it as a lucrative market to be exploited. Meanwhile fans sometimes are so fixated on art & culture they lose sight that it’s some folk’s livelihood & respect/admiration doesn’t pay the bills. I still remember when ADV Films was the dominant company for anime in the US. Then they went bankrupt, the remnants became Sentai Filmworks & now I believe they’re owned by AMC & streaming as HiDive. Currently I think Netflix is probably Sony/CR’s biggest competitor for anime outside Japan. I also remember when CR bought out Right Stuf & the drama it set off in the fan community. The biggest change I’ve seen is they all-but eliminated their hentai/doujinshi offerings & related merch (models/figures). That wasn’t my niche & in the dozen or so orders I’ve placed since then I haven’t seen many changes. Not as many bargains during sales & packaging isn’t a bulky, but still better than Amazon & nothing has been damaged (primarily manga & blu-rays). My one complaint is not being able to use Paypal if there are pre-orders in my order. Between CR & Amazon, CR has a higher minimum order for free shipping & better prices on manga, but sometimes you’ll find better deals on Amazon for blu-ray. The issue with blu-ray on Amazon is sometimes it’s a licensed blu-ray, but the wrong REGION so you have to be careful ordering (thankfully bootlegs don’t seem like much of an issue except for Ebay) I suppose what i’m trying to say in the above wall of text is that while these sort of developments can have a significant impact on the industry, I’ve been a fan/watcher/consumer of anime for 40+ years & I see no reason to believe I won’t remain one until the day I die (or go blind)

Having watched the first 5 eps, it’s unlikely I’ll continue. I’m not feeling the frenetic energy at all that was essential to the original’s vibe. And I’m not seeing any improvements that would make it more appealing to a modern audience. I actually dislike the softer art style & periodic color palette switches. There might be a slight reduction in unnecessary/filler content, but it’s not like the series is famous for having a tight narrative. The “hasn’t aged well” observation isn’t actually much of a factor for me, but I honestly don’t see any reason for the remake to exist. If I ever feel like revisiting the series, I’ll stick to the original.

Not sure what you’ve already seen but my suggestions: Vinland Saga Dororo (2019) Monster Pluto Fate Zero Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction (do not watch episode 0 until after episode 16) -
Temps made it to 60F, so I did what will hopefully be the last of the yard work before winter (predicting highs in the low 40Fs after midweek). Still need to clean out the gutters, but will hire someone for that since I have balance issues due to an inner-ear problem. I love autumn, but dread it’s end. Likewise, I enjoy Christmas & New Years but have never had any fondness for winter, even though I now live in a less rural area.

What is your favorite anime Decade
Ohayotaku replied to Kirika_Madeleine's topic in Anime Discussion
Hard to say really. There are numerous anime from the 70s-90s I have an enduring fondness & appreciation for. But I have watched more anime & a greater variety since I started steaming approximately 10 years ago. I’m currently watching more seasonals than anything, though I foresee that changing at some point. Much of my early anime faves were scifi/space opera (Star Blazers), mecha (Robotech) & giant/combining robot. But overall I seem to have a preference for fantasy & supernatural in keeping with my interest in folklore & mythology. Then there epic series like Fate Zero & Vinland. One of my biggest complaints about modern anime is there is way too much isekai & OP MC (in many cases, can’t really call them underdogs or anti-heroes, just blatant power fantasies). And while I enjoy some CGDCT & cozy anime (love both Azumanga Daioh & Yuru Camp), there’s too much recently, especially when it comes to the Idol genre. Honestly many anime I enjoy are modern adaptions/interpretations of older source material (Fruits Basket, Dororo, Ushio & Tora, Spriggan, Megalo Box). Some remakes feel like like relevant updates (Star Blazers 2199/2202), but others pointless (Ranma 1/2). And many continuations after decade long breaks don’t measure up to the OG (Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card, Yasha Hime) -
I have a preference for Japanese VAs who generally seem to put more energy/emotion into their roles. One exception is that I prefer Cowboy Bebop’s english dub.

Seiko Ayase from Dandadan is definitely one of the hotter grandmas in anime

Managed to find a matinee showing of the subbed version of Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom. Had to drive a bit further than I usually prefer, but still under an hour one way. I actually consider it worth it because the big screen & soundsystem really accentuated the epicness of the visuals & soundtrack (my hearing has improved quite a bit since my last post now that I’m on medication for it). It felt like a LOTR adaption at times, though that’s probably in part due to Demiurge taking on a form that’s textbook Balrog). The R rating (along with this being Overlord after all) means this is NOT a feel good movie. It’s not just that Ainz isn’t a hero, I don’t tink he can even be considered an anti-hero. But that’s why it stands out from the generic glut of isekai series. The transition between scenes at times felt like an event or dialogue was skipped & the attempts at humor felt largely ineffective due to the inevitability of tragedy, but I think it captured the franchise’s atmosphere as well as the tv series at it’s best & is a good example of the dark fantasy genre. Honestly left with a knot in my stomach afterwards, but think I’ll be adding it to my list of all-time favorite anime movies. 8/10

Per ANN, the Dreamworks’ Voltron remake will be leaving Netflix on December 6th. If I’m going to check it out, guess I need to make it a priority.
