It'll take a while before it's fully better. I still haven't been lifting anything heavy just in case, I figured I should give myself a break for a couple of weeks at least. - As for today: I had a mini-panic attack today when I got home from school, laid down on my bed, and heard the fire alarm in the building going off followed by that overhead transformer-sounding voice screeching over the loud speakers in the hall "A THREAT HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED PLEASE MOVE TO THE EXITS!!" so I was sprinting trying to put my clothes back on, find my keys, then I noticed it was screeching "The National Weather service has issued a severe tornado alert for our area please move to the designated safety zones" and I was like.. wha? Huh? Weren't we just in a fire?? The weather is like sunny and no clouds out there's no tornado So I go in the hall and luckily my neighbor is out there letting people know they are just testing the alarms in the building. Apparently they didn't send out the email that they were going to test the alarms today until 10 AM which I don't check my emails every hour, at best I check that every 2-3 days so I had no idea they were testing things. I thought they would at least start telling us a week in advance, not 5 hours before. Would have saved me rushing around in a panic then having to calm myself down because I thought it was happening all over again x.x

However on one Monday morning they found they couldn't turn it off!! So after about 10 minutes people started to think it was a real evacuation and started leaving the building, via the stairs and by the time the building management realised what was happening it was too late to stop the evacuation. It was a 26 floor building and so many people were going down the stairs it would have been too dangerous to tell people to go back up.
Sakura
I don't know what's going on with my life this week, I need for things to just stop lol I went to get the mail this morning, taking the elevator back upstairs with another couple in it as well who were going to floor 10. However when we got to floor 10 the door started making an awful noise, the elevator started shaking violently, door wouldn't open, a weird sound started going off. The door open/close buttons wouldn't work, then it just stopped moving. I called 911 but couldn't talk to them so I handed my phone to the man in the elevator because at that point I was having a full blown panic attack, certain that this was it, this is how I die. After about 10 minutes with fire/rescue on the way already, the elevator started moving again. Ridiculously faster than normal actually and I thought it was going to speed to the top of the building and smash. Instead it swung doors open really fast on floor 16 and every one of us ran out. I collapsed in the hall trying to get myself calmed down and breathing better. The couple with me was so nice though and were sitting with me. When fire and rescue did show up they had an EMS come look at me because of the breathing issues I was having and my heart rate being so accelerated. They also had to sit with the other woman who was in the elevator because she was older and also not doing well, breathing hard and such. I've been laying on the couch since then wrapped up in blankets trying to get better. Luckily I have Pessi @Zeref with me who has been sitting with me, reading me funny stuff, and watching tv with me. No way in hell am I getting on that elevator again. I will walk up and down the stairs I don't care how long it takes to do it. Edited September 21, 2024 by Sakura

How nice of that couple to stay with you until the emergency services arrived. You're so fortunate to have Pessi to look after you when things like this happen. With his help I'm sure you'll soon recover. Just take things easy and take care of yourself. 1

For anyone else that finds themselves stuck in a similar situation ever, I did a little research and the odds of it free-falling are very low. In fact there is only 1 documented incident in the US of this happened to a woman in 1940's when a plane hit the Empire State Building and she free-fell 75 stories however survived due to the cables in the elevator creating a bit of a cushion at the bottom. All elevators have 10-12 cables attached to them, each of which could support it on its own, even if the others all snap. Secondly, all elevators have a mechanism in them where if an elevator is going to fast it activates it, digging into the elevator shaft and preventing it from moving. At most you would fall 8-9 feet before this would activate.

Lol yes this increased my elevator fear, I already don't like the idea of being suspended in a lil metal box 20 floors up but at least going up and down the stairs will be good exercise 3 hours ago, Zeref said: It's been a week, hasn't it? Yeah honestly this was kind of nice to know because I didn't know there was basically very few elevator accidents or how safe they actually were. Even knowing this though I'm going to use the stairs from now on quite a lot more lol ~

Sakura
Just took it easy. I'm going to see my school councilor in the morning to talk about what I can do for taking off a few classes because it's not sustainable to keep up what I'm doing.
Zeref
Managed to work out, the weather was nice so I could do it outside. Went for coffees, walked by the river some. I had free time today with not a lot of work so I could go outside during the day. It was a little rainy here and there though.

Animedragon
I got up late, went and did the weekly shopping and visited the local cemetery to put some flowers on my parent's grave in memory of the 9th anniversary of my father's death.

Sakura
I went to classes + work study courses. Had a tornado alarm thingy going off with some bad weather today. This evening after classes went to the store to grocery shop. I think it's a bad idea to shop when you are hungry because I bought 2x as much as I usually do

Zeref
Completed a project for work me and another were working on together. I feel good about that because we completed ahead of schedule. Schedule was next Monday and we finished this afternoon on Thursday. After that I took myself out to get a steak because I felt like I deserved it
Sakura
Classes, GFX'ing a little, I feel like I have too many GFX requests right now. I'm also really annoyed by a person that still won't leave me alone so I almost threw my phone out of the window today lol ~ I guess we've been preparing a little for the hurricane tonight too. We located our flashlights and some other things we might need if the power goes out tomorrow.

Zeref
Riding out the hurricane winds inside mostly. We've been lucky in that we've only had our power go off for about 5 minutes once. It blinked a few times but this was the end of that. I read 4 million are without power. The wind still here is very bad so we are only staying inside, playing games, making dinner, and we will watch a movie soon tonight.

Ya it's a crazy number of people that are without power right now >.> I'm glad ours stayed on lol I would have been so bored. So yeah, pretty much just staying in. I did some house chores, boring things like cleaning out the fridge, mopping, and tidying up my closet. Also did some more GFX'ing.

efaardvark
There's a utility easement running along the back of my property and it has become overgrown with shrubs and brush. It is to the point that it is coming through & over the fence onto my property and creating a maintenance issue and fire danger for me. Rant on: Spoiler I'm in a desert area very prone to brushfires so keeping the brush cut back is a big deal. (As in the fire department will cite you and fine you for not having it done.) Technically the easement is county land loaned to the utilities for their services, but all I get from that bunch is finger-pointing and runaround. You would think that between the property taxes collected on California real estate and the 9.5% county sales tax someone in the local government would be able to get someone to take care of that sort of thing. The utility prices aren't cheap either. SoCal Edison in fact is lobbying for a raise in their already-usurious $0.42/kWh top tier residential electricity rates as I type this. Spectrum requires over $300/month for internet & phone service. But no, apparently none of those entities are collecting enough income to keep the property safely maintained. Unfortunately if we have another "PG&E event" back there it'll be my property that burns first. Besides the fire/safety issue, every year all the plants there drop their leaves and the winds dump them all in my back yard and pool, where they clog up the pool filter and bury all the stuff I'm trying grow on my side of the fence. The winds also stir the branches of the taller shrubs that are growing up through the wires and cause internet and phone outages, especially during the periodic "santa ana" winds that can gust to 40mph or more. So I'm spending today getting a couple quotes to have the trees trimmed and the brush cleared and hauled away at my expense, with an appointment for another quote on Monday.
