Wickett
I'm not sure if you mean anime that are vastly unpopular with poor reviews but that I still like, or anime that are just not super popular but that I still like. If it's the latter, I'd have to throw ID: INVADED out there. Interesting story with a good MC.

I don't know about the Ergo Proxy, but Serial Experiments Lain was very much a popular series when it came out. It was very much "of its time" personal computer ownership was gaining ground, but it was still mostly geeks and enthusiasts who had one, the Internet was also becoming more widely available and the whole concept of being online and having an online presence was growing in popularity and the idea of not having a physical body and only existing in an online world was being explored.

Yes sir I can feel Lain was a popular one. I saw some friends using her as primary pic for their social media account and background profile. Also, one of my friend said, that anime isnt for you because the story is complicated and hard for you to understand but when I watched, I easily got the story from the 1st run.
Nico Robin Fan 95
I like Fairy Tail very much, but a lot of people hate it which i never understood and never will. I could understand if they just say they don't like it, and say in a constructive way why Fairy Tail isn't their thing. But instead they jump on the hate train and hate the anime, just because everyone else does which is a very poor and pitiful thing to do in my opinion. But i know these haters will never change, and that's why i personally just ignore them and still enjoy Fairy Tail for what it is. But does that mean, i liked everything about Fairy Tail? No but i still try to say my opinion in a constructive way, and name actual reasons why i didn't like some moments, or some storylines in this anime. Unlike these haters who just hate it because they think it's cool to hate this shounen anime. I still love most of the arcs, most of the moments, and also most of the storylines in Fairy Tail. Except the final arc which i didn't like because i think it was done badly, the war could have been more epic, and most of the spriggan 12 got wasted in my opinion. 1 1

These haters are probably One Piece fanatics! They are saying Fairy Tail was the copycut of One Piece which I strongly disagree. I watched all the season of Fairy Tail and even once I havent seen Natsu stretched his body and the story is far different. Even the art style and animation is different. One Piece is more fancy art style while Fairy Tail is a bit similar with Naruto style! Edited April 29, 2025 by ReverzerO

I like SAO and Yugioh GX which I've seen a lot of criticism over both.

Fairy Tail isn't what it used to be in my opinion, but that is typically the nature of open-ended battle manga where things begin to get a bit monotonous. I'm currently watching the 100 Years Quest, and objectively I find it absolutely terrible, but I'd like to finish it for completion sake. Plus the OST is still full of bangers. The earliest criticism I remember hearing about the anime was that it was the power of friendship theme taken to the extreme, and they're not wrong, but at the same time they are a wayward guild so that's easy to understand, and that sums up a lot of great anime, so I'm not sure why Fairy Tail got hit with that criticism so much. aveenyjohn
I've always thought "Land of the Lustrous" (Houseki no Kuni) deserves way more attention than it gets. The unique premise of gem people fighting against moon dwellers combined with some of the most stunning CG animation I've ever seen makes it a standout series. The character development of Phos is incredible, and the story tackles deep philosophical themes about identity, purpose, and change. Another underrated gem is "Mushi-Shi" - it's got this beautiful, meditative quality that's so different from most action-heavy anime. Each episode feels like a folklore tale with gorgeous art and soundtrack. Also, while it has its fans, I don't think enough people appreciate "The Eccentric Family" (Uchouten Kazoku) for its perfect blend of Japanese folklore, family drama, and whimsical storytelling. The tanuki family dynamics and the Kyoto setting create such a magical atmosphere.

Sakura Dragon
I don’t think that Black Clover is disliked but I have heard plenty of people give it flack. I’ve heard everything from it being unoriginal to boring. I definitely don’t agree. I think it’s great.
fluffybug
made in abyss! it used to be popular back when season 1 aired, but i feel like season 2 didn't get much attention and because the mangakas an obvious lolicon its fallen out of popularity in recent years. i also absolutely adore the 2012 series for black rock shooter but i feel like it never got much attention. Ohayotaku
I rather enjoyed Higurashi Gou & Sotsu, though It seems most fans of the original series don’t. At first it might seem to be a remake, but it’s actually a direct sequel.

Fooly Cooly Mushishi House of Five Leaves - I've heard a lot of people say this one's boring but I like it. Noragami - I don't hear a lot about this one either.
