  1. For comedy, I would add Hyakko. I don't know how well known it is, but it's super funny. It's an anime about a few girls in high school who are friends and find themselves in often funny situations. One episode is focused entirely on them trying to join a club, and the slapstick in that episode still makes me laugh pretty hard even though I've watched it many times.
  2. I saw a list not too long ago that suggested 35 anime that you should show someone who's new to the medium, and while some entries made sense, they had things in there like Paranoia Agent and Gintama and Free! and even Food Wars. They even suggested Dargonball Z, and if you saw a post I made in a thread not too long ago, I made a case for why Dragonball is better for that. I thought to myself, that seems a bit extreme, Paranoia Agent's opening might dissuade someone from anime on it's own despite how compelling it is when Little Slugger is just killing people who are emotionally unstable or traumatized, but then the sort of fantasy in a modern setting kicks in for the second half of the anime, it only opens up the deep rabbit hole of how weird anime can be. It only gets worse with Free! and Food Wars because the over sexual nature of kids in high school that swim and the most literal version of food porn that has ever existed come into play. You really get yourself into a place where the medium is meant more for fans who can deal with a flamboyant character who may or may not be your enemy in a thong at a public beach for no real reason in one scene at that point. So with in mind, they covered anime for Action, Romance, Drama, Mystery, Comedy, Hot Guys/Girls, "If you think anime is for kids", Sci-fi, and if you have no idea what they like, and I think we can do better. So, for fun, let's put our heads together and suggest at least 35 anime we can basically agree on for these genres. I'll break the Ice and start. For Action anime, the first thing that comes to mind is One Punch Man, and that's kind of an odd choice but there reasons for it, namely because the action is really good when it's good, and there's a lot of comedy that anime fans will understand, and a lot that you don't have to be a fan to get. For example, there's the joke that the sidekick is never as powerful or reliable as the main character, and despite the fact that the MC is actually super buff, he's rarely drawn that way, poking fun at the fact that almost all other action heroes muscles take to center stage as much as MC themselves. That kind of humor is easy to understand, and also really easy to explain without being intrusive to one's watching experience, just in case they miss one of those jokes. For something a little more subtle, Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple works as well. although it's lacking in comedy, kind of removing the ability to hit multiple birds with one stone. For Romance, that's hard but my best pick is probably They are My Noble Masters. It's kind of a weird anime that mixes action, some drama and and an actual episode all about the head butler training the MC in both the ways of being a Butler and fighting at the same time, but it's so on point at getting a good feeling for the ways a relationship might happen. A good second choice would be Hanasako Iroha, but it doesn't focus on the romance aspect as much. There's obviously more I can suggest, but this thread is getting long and I want to hear your ideas. Suggest as many anime for as may on this list as you can, and let's try and enjoy figuring this one out, because it sounds like fun.
  3. I actually really don't like Detective Conan. There's nothing really wrong with it, it's just not appealing to me personally.
  4. In that case, we should probably have it mentioned in the first post that anyone who wants to take part in the watch along make sure that they follow you so they have an easy point of reference to go to when it's time.
  5. Considering how this turned out I think that's probably the best idea, especially since no one came in to confirm or deny their being here today until far too late.
  6. Did it never happen? I wasn't here at 5 like I thought might happen, so I just figured I missed it. Odd. Wonder where everyone was for it?
  7. Another day and I find myself cursing my luck. Last time I found myself near an attractive woman, she tried to shoot me, although in the long run that may have been a blessing, as I've learned I'd better take larger weapons with me from now on. Since my last encounter, I've in fact gotten stronger, but still I concern myself with what might be as a new face looks at me threateningly. That face might be innocent but I sense power resonating from the woman standing mere feet from me. With a small flick of the wrist, a ball of fire is lunged at me large to engulf me if I don't dodge it, and luckily I just barely managed. Alas though this new foe seems to move quicker than the last one, and can shoot at the same time. "I really should learn a few spells" I think to myself as I dodge several fireballs at once. Suddenly I feel a presence behind me, and at a quick glance I can ill afford I see something, a giant pillar of water looks to consume me. Two more fireballs are headed my way, this opponent must hope I'll instinctively jump back to avoid them based on how they are coming at me from the sides. Instead I duck under them. Surprised by my quick thinking, my attacker runs down the street, probably hoping to change the scenery to their advantage. I think for a moment about letting them go, but given my luck, they'll find more people to attack me. I give chase and after a few minutes lightning nearly strikes me. "So that's three elements she can control" I think to myself as I barely dodge the attack. This time I feel her above me on a nearby roof, and I realize she's also had me pursue her into an alleyway, a smart choice to limit my ability to dodge. However, there's a ladder nearby and the buildings aren't too tall or too far apart, so I decide it's worth the risk of climbing one to see where she is, I'd probably be able to jump across these buildings if I needed to anyways. I start to climb and about half way up, I am struck by lighting for real. The armor I'm wearing protects me from it mostly though even though it stings like hell, and I keep climbing till I reach the top. Across from me, the woman looks horrified at what she sees. Either I look like hell or she's at a loss for how I'm okay after taking one of her shots. I finally get a chance to be offensive though and so I pull out several throwing knives and lob them at her from several different heights, convinced at least one would hit her. Instead, she puts up a barrier and protects herself from all oncoming attacks, but even after a split second of seeing it, I can tell it's like painted window, which means her vision must be clouded quite a bit by it. I take this chance to jump to her building, pulling out my large sword from my back in the process and striking her barrier with all my might. She blocks that as well but the barrier cracks, so I continue to strike it, all while hoping I have her cornered enough that she can't cast another spell. After the 6th or 7th hit, the barrier breaks and before I can send my sword down at her, a small fireball hits me square in the face. She must have managed to pull that out in a panicked state because it's little else than a bit blinding and stings only ever so slightly. However my reaction to it gives her just enough time to put some distance between us, even in my current state, I can see that she's having issues composing herself well enough to strike. With that in mind I pretend I'm more hurt than I am, and peak through my hand which I had placed on my face to get a better idea of our surroundings on these roofs. Then I see it, a wall of sorts as one of the buildings seems to have a few rooms that extend over the street and practically touch the building's roof we're on. I fall to one knee, continuing to feign my injury, and lay my sword on the ground. By now she has regained her composure and is readying another attack, but before she can, I throw more knives her way, forcing her to jump back and avoid them. I keep throwing them until her back is against the wall, and once I see she has made contact with it, I throw more attempting to pin the thicker parts of her hair against it with my weapons. Four land exactly as I intend, and she's stuck there. I grab my sword again, walk towards her, place it under her chin, and warn her, if she ever attacks me again, the blade goes to the neck. I'd hate to kill such a pretty face, but if needed I'll do it. However if that does ever happen, it won't be today. By the time she gets herself unstuck from that wall, I'll be long gone.
  8. I have to say, that'd be hard if it weren't for the start of Shippuden, which is honestly, horrible. I know it may seem unfair to make my choice based on how the show started but seriously, it's really bad. I mean, how many episodes did it take for Gaara to show up, lose a fight, get killed, get revived, and go home, because that's basically all that happens that matters in that arc. Making a powerful puppet master, only to kill him before arc's end, doesn't make it important to the story. The answer to that question I asked by the way, is 32. That's 8 months of weekly episodes to get one plot point and some basic information through that could have been handled in less than 16. By episode 32 of Naruto, they are already in the Chunin exams, Sakura is trying to defend Naruto and Sasuke from sound Ninja, and just in general, a lot more happened. It wouldn't bother me as much that it took that long for that arc, but that arc set the pace for the entire show, which was, incredibly sluggish to say the least, and it probably was so because they got away with dragging on one short arc for 3/4's of a year. The pacing of Shippuden was just, really, really bad, and while one could argue that Naruto had too many fillers, I don't mind it. Without those fillers, the characters from Naruto wouldn't have had the impact they do because I wouldn't have known them as well. Sure, they all pretty much told the same story, but they did with it different characters so you got to know them all, so that when characters like Neji die, it means more than it would have otherwise. Naruto has a portion that is a low note, Shippuden has huge chucks of low notes to try and make the high notes seem like they have more impact and if I hadn't been watching anime for over 15 years by the time that really set in, I might have been okay with it, but I did and, I'm not. Shippuden is okay, but there's no way it has even the slightest chance of being better than Naruto was.
  9. Okay now I'm super lost here. I'm at Chapter 4 and the last thing I did was was talk to Vert in Leanbox and "found out" that she's the CPU in the other dimension. There's no one left to talk anywhere in Guilds for Information or anything, and I don't remember being given any hint as to where I should go next. I have no idea what to do.
  10. You aren't wrong, but the basketball and tennis stuff looks alright. I wouldn't buy the game at full price though.
  11. DLC as we know is a common practice in the industry these days, but some DLC is better than others and some DLC costs more than the base game, for less content. Take a look at the soon releasing Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, priced at 40 dollars. There is a season pass for this game which has varying prices on what's in it if you buy it piece by piece. The Season Pass, costs 45 dollars, buying things on their own costs 52 dollar. The content in the season pass will include at least 3 dungeons and 4 new maps, as well as a prologue to the entire game, and something else that has yet to be announced. Here's the problem though, even though that sounds like a decent amount of content when I say it that way, but some of this content, people aren't going to care about. For example, one of these pieces of DLC that costs 10 dollars, has some extra hard maps, not everyone is going to want that challenge. Now, you think yourself, that's fine, let them just buy the rest of the DLC, but even if they do that, they are still going to end up spending 42 dollars. which is still two dollars more than the base game, and all for content that's clearly not going to be as much as the game's base content. There's also the fact that the release dates of this content are really shady. For example, the first bit of DLC launches tomorrow with the game for 8 dollars, bringing up the total price of the game should you get just that DLC, up to 48 dollars, before Tax comes into play for the game itself which brings it up over 50, add to that if you bought the two Amiibo which cost 25 dollars together, which is the only way to get either one, and your total price for the base game and one bit of DLC, which promises easier money, items and EXP, perfect for the start of the game, comes up to over 75 dollars. Even without tax, assuming you bought the season pass and the Amiibo, to play the game and all it's content, because Alm and Celica each unlock a dungeon when tapped on the 3DS, and you are spending 107 dollars for all the content, and 112 dollars if you don't buy the DLC. Destiny, when it finished all it's year one content, cost 7 dollars less than that without the season pass, 17 if you did buy the pass, and of course, they may have had that 40 dollar DLC which you had to buy to continue playing after year one content concluded, but they also sold the entire thing for a base price of 60 dollars and had versions of DLC of year 2 that were available that cost only a little bit more. But to play everything in Fire Embelm Echoes: Shadows of Valenita, which is by the way, a remake of the second game in the franchise called Fire Emblem Gaiden, meaning it's literally 25 years old, costs over 100 dollars, and that's just in USD, some places around the world, it might cost more and it wouldn't surprise me. Also there's the fact that most of this DLC, will be out by Month's end. The only things coming out for DLC that don't release this month, are the prequel DLC, which launches on June 1st anyways, and the DLC with no name or release date. I don't get what the point of doing DLC like this is, especially when it's Nintendo doing it, the same Nintendo that by the way, has two games coming to the Switch that will have free content updates in ARMS and Splatoon 2 a trend carried over from the original Splatoon. Look at the DLC for even for Bayonetta 2. It offered many different costumes that actually changed the gameplay style, and released with the first game ported for the Wii U and it's controllers all at the base price, because none of the costumes cost anything. With that in mind, even if the game's main story had only been about 5 hours, each costume would have given you a reason to play it over again, just to see what changes. The Fire Emblem DLC, doesn't do that. Instead it costs more, and gives less, and that wasn't really all that different with Fates or Awakening, in fact this DLC is kind of the same idea. Sure Fates had that special edition where you could get everything at launch for 100 dollars but at the same time, that didn't include DLC maps or missions or anything of the sort. Problem was, there wasn't enough of those to begin and they sold out right on the first day, and never came back, as with the special edition for this game. So the model actually improved with Fates a bit because there was a lot of content, and got horrifically worse with this one? That makes no sense. This is just one example of bad DLC practices that I thought about as it's coming up so soon, but let's talk about this kind of thing, I think it's important.
  12. Perfect. Things are as they should be. Thank you Optic.
  13. Honestly, I don't even know how to do that and it really doesn't bother me all that much, but thank you all the same.
  14. Time to talk about Arms, and I gotta say, it's kinda looking like a fighting game version of Rocket League, sort of. But, before we get into that, let's talk about the remaining new characters and a bit about the mechanics. So Arms gave us a two new characters starting with Byte and Barq (pronounced bark), a team of two who fight as one! Barq will attack with it's own one Arms like ability, and work as a way to allow Byte to jump off of him to get extra height. These two are robot Police officer and his dog. Twintelle is the only ARMS fighter to use her hair as weapon. She is based off of your typical hollywood actor. Each character, new and already introduced will have three weapons they start off with allowing for different combinations, however because you can unlock all the arms for all the fighters, thousands of combinations will be possible at launch. Also, as a nice addition, getting duplicates is not as big an issue as it might be in other games like this, because they do more damage. It's not clear though how many times that will stack though. ARMS also has a few different modes and while obvious ones like online matching making ranked matches are there, it's possible to set up a tournament with up to 20 players across 10 Switch consoles. You can also team up in two vs two, three-way fights and a special mode where you are tethered together requiring great amounts of teamwork to win. There also two modes that are not fighting games at all, and they a basically Tennis and Basketball. In the Tennis mode, you'll need to get the ball to hit the ground of your opponent while keeping it away from your side, and it will blow up on impact. In the Basketball mode, you are the basketball and so is your opponent. The goal is try and grab them and slam them through the hoop and there is some varying ways to do this, as it's possible to get three pointers. Next, and now more fitting than ever given that a Splatoon 2 trailer ended this direct, it was confirmed that several new characters, ARMS and other added content would be coming to the game after release, for free. It's not been made clear whether any DLC can be paid for, but given that you need credits of sorts to unlock some of the ARMS that can be mixed together like I mentioned earlier, it's possible there might be some micro-transactions, we'll have to see how that plays out. Finally, there will be some Beta's of sorts before the game launches. These have been titled The ARMS Global TestPunch, and will take place As soon as May 26th through the 28th, and June 2nd through the 4th. The first day of these will be in the US only though, so if you live outside the country, you'll have to wait until the following day to play.
  15. That's true, I suppose I'll have to see what time we are all meeting before I can say yes or no then. I'll make sure to get back to this thread about that as soon as I know, as this seems to be the time a lot of people are okay with, and I'd hate to try and force a change or anything when other people are on board.
  16. Ubisoft's E3 press conference time has been confirmed: http://gematsu.com/2017/05/ubisoft-e3-2017-press-conference-set-june-12 This news also comes at the same time Ubisoft has confirmed the New Assassin's Creed, Farcry 5, The Crew 2 and four other AAA titles beofre the fiscal year of 2019. The three mentioned titles are all expected to launch before March 31st 2018, the end of the current fiscal year. With that in mind, we probably have a pretty good idea what to expect from Ubisoft this year now, which is kind of a letdown unless these 4 other AAA titles can really blow our minds.
  17. I won't be free then. Due to complications in daily life for my family, we weren't able to celebrate Mother's day this past Sunday, and won't be able to it again until this Sunday. Even though the time hasn't been set, it will probably be around 6:30 P.M. that evening which means if I could start the movie, I wouldn't be able to finish it with the rest of you.
  18. I'm gonna watch anything anime related after I beat the games. As for the true endings, depending on how much time I have, I might just watch them instead of playing them. I did get the true ending for Re;birth 1 though. Thankfully, I already own Megadimension Neptunia VII because it was on that Golden Week sale last week and it only cost me about 12 bucks. Gonna play it after I finish Re;birth 3 for sure.
  19. I'm okay with the new layout and all, but it's a bit wonky when my avatar is slightly in the quick reply textbox which seems to be the cause of the text only showing up more than halfway down the box. A majority of posts are shorter than where the text starts now. Not that it can't be gotten used to and all, but I've never been to a forum that did that. Other than that though, I like it, and the CPU's being all over the place is fine with me as well.
  20. Thanks for trying to help, but I got frustrated after two more hours of grinding and still losing and decided to just buy Nepgear's anime sword to get past the fight and ending up beating the rest of the game. I didn't use the sword for the rest of it, but I was seriously getting annoyed and just used it to beat Trick. Now I'm giving Rebirth 3 a go.
  21. Don't suppose anyone would be will to help me again. I'm trying to beat CFW Trick and I cannot do it. I've been stuck trying to level up and beat him with my Drive Gauge and that doesn't do enough, but he also regains too much health for me to beat him otherwise. I am at level 61-63 with my party and he's still not taking enough damage and doing a lot. I've been training for this fight for over three hours and I'm stuck.
  22. That's somewhat fair, but conversely, none of what you made compasses a single genre and options 1 and 4 often go hand in hand.
  23. More than that, why are those the only choices. Anime is broader than that.
  24. Going with some stereotypical ones, Hughes death in FMA, and Nagisa from Clannad both hit me pretty hard.
  25. No Halo for Microsoft this year: http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/05/12/halo-6-wont-be-at-e3-2017 That's less than great considering Halo would have been the best way to introduce people to what the Scorpio can do.
