Who's going to be watching One Piece?

I’ll give it a look, but am highly skeptical. My experience has been that live action versions of animated originals rarely turn out well no matter whether they’re anime or Disney. And Netflix already FUBAR’d Cowboy Bebop which should have been a much easier adaption than One Piece with it’s massive storyline & cast of characters. Not to mention the over the top action/Devil Fruit Powers. CGI can be breathtaking when done properly, but far too often it just looks tacky despite how long it’s been around.

Thanks for giving it a shot, Ohayotaku! I agree with you on all points, but across the board, the reviewers are dishing out really great reviews on the One Piece live action, where before they hadn't done it for any of the other adaptations, Cowboy Bebop included.  I start watching it tomorrow night so I'm eager to see if they do a good job.

I watched all eps. It is AWESOME. Best serie i have seen on netflix in many years. For anime lovers this is a much watch.

Why is it so good:

1) they picked excellent actors for the parts. Luffy is great but especially the "villains" are awesome

2.) The CGI is not over the top. it contributes to the whole feeling

3.) I like that it is not childish. At some points (captain of the cats) i would even rate it 13+

4.) The pace is great and especially with all the beautiful scenery, it is a synergetic effect

5.) Even though the fruits give weird powers, the action scenes still feel naturel

6.) And this is an important one;..they choose to go with the andventure and action vibe, NOT with the humour side. All 3 goat animes (bleach, one piece and naruto) sometimes have a lame humour side. And they mostly skipped that. Which is great choice

I hated all anime real live stuff, but this is an example how it should be

It’ll probably October or November before I get around to it. I’m currently subscribed to Crunchyroll, HiDive & Hulu and watching 14 seasonals with a couple more I plan to binge.

Bulleje76, thanks for sharing, and thank you so much for not giving up any spoilers, lol :) Friday night, can't come soon enough!

Ohayotaku, please make sure you let me know what you think about it after you finish watching it in a few months.

Sakura, I hope you run out of other things very soon so you can watch it ;)

Clayton, I think I heard that the Manga is currently on the final arc, so the treasure's about to be found very soon!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Yeah right! They'll find something else to look for after the treasure. Honestly though, I'd think by now they could have stolen their owns. I'm pretty sure if the lie action version does the whole story, the actors won't live that long.

So, I did it guys! I finished watching the whole One Piece live action from Netflix! I have to say that I really loved it! Of course it's the first season so just like any series, the actors are still learning who they are as the characters.  But I felt these actors did an excellent job from the starting line.  Luffy, our main hero felt like a very believable Luffy and so did all the other characters.  Now, guys, with that being said I'm going into Spoilers territory so please don't go any further if you don't want any spoilers, lol.

***Spoilers below so please don't read any further if you don't want to be spoiled, lol***

Ok, so here goes! My most favorite part was Sanji's backstory.  I was trying to figure out when Zeff lost his leg, how they would do it when he was underwater trying to save Sanji and his leg got stuck and he cut it off to save the boy.  But you know what when they were trapped on the barren island and the pirate still had both legs, I was like "What? Did they forget about his leg?" But then when Sanji comes at Zeff with the knife to steal his food in the bag and also to kill him if the pirate tried to prevent him and he found only treasure inside the bag, I was like "Wait, how did he survive so many days without eating anything? Maybe he used some form of Haki, lol" Then Sanji realizes that the pirate ate his own leg just so that he could give the boy all of the remaining food they had left, I was like "What?!!!!".  Even Sanji was like "Why would you do that for me?" Then Zeff tells him, "Because you have the same dream as me, to find the All Blue".  I paused it and thought long and hard about it and it moved my soul.  What's it like to not accomplish one's lifelong dream and to run into a younger individual who has the same dream you once were so passionate about and then you realize how cold and dead your dreams are now in the present.  I watched Gran Turismo (based on a true story) yesterday and at the end of it, I sat there as the end credits rolled and that movie touched upon the same theme, the young hero's trainer had failed and had buried his dreams and when he saw that the young lad was about to give up, he talked to him about his regret and the emptiness he felt at not having gone any further.  One Piece is a story about following one's dreams and I felt it got the point across beautifully, especially when Mihawk put Zorro on his death bed and Luffy's crew asked him, "Why didn't you stop him?" and Luffy replied "I could never stop someone from going after their dream." As long as you had a dream, if you can remember that dream, remember the passion you once had and what made you stop, you'll realize how the world laughs and mocks your dream.  So everytime Luffy says "I'm going to be the king of the pirates", everytime someone laughs at him or told him the world is too vast for him and that he should give it up, it seems funny, but how can you not relate to your own dream.  I had an opportunity to chat with someone on this forum who's currently following her dream and I could feel the joy radiating from every word that the person wrote to me, it made me want to finally push forward and follow through on my own dreams that I had so carelessly buried for so long.  Overall, I loved One Piece the live action and hope if you haven't watched it yet, you do, but as you watch it, hopefully you rekindle your own lost dream.  So, I'll finish with this.  I met a lady who was retired and I asked her "So you must have time to do a lot of travelling, right?" She replied "No, I'm actually living my dream! I reached out on Facebook to some old College friends and we started our "all girl band" that we always talked about and now we go and perform at different places."

This is my first online review ever, hopefully it wasn't too confusing, lol :)
