  1. I've finally begun writing The Ruthisian Codex and am currently working on the first chapter. Now since it's been years since I've written any stories and I've never written, much less published, a full book in my life, I needed to do some research and make some considerations before I decided to seriously go for this. How much time would I be willing to dedicate to this per week? What is the best way to organize my thoughts and ideas for the story? What do I want the actual plot to be? How does an author go about getting their book published in the first place? Is it better to go with traditional publishing or self publishing? Do I need an editor and if so, how much does that cost? What are my weakest writing points and how do I fix them? Do I want to publish under my legal name or spend the time and money on a lawyer so that I can write under a pseudonym? How do I go about setting up my author's website and how much per month am I willing to spend for that? Who is my target audience? Lots and lots of things to think about here so I started with the easiest things first like planning my writing schedule, looking up tutorials and information online on things like character development strategies, grammar and punctuation, the average cost of an editor and reputable sources where I can find one when it's time, and thinking about my social media presence to help get my name and book out there once it's completed. Time wise, I can reasonably dedicate at least an hour a night during the week and a few hours on the weekend either writing the story, studying about technical aspects of how to improve my writing, or work on character outlines and development. As for financial considerations i.e. getting an editor or the total approximate cost of getting my book published, this can easily range from a few hundred dollars up into the thousands depending on what I want and the level of quality I want. There is no way in Hell I'm dedicating a bunch of time and energy into this only for the final product to be shoddily put together. I want the highest quality that I can get for a price that is the most feasible for me at the time. The way I see it, it's going to take me at least a year to get a finished product that is ready to be edited and published, so now that I have a ballpark price range in mind that I wouldn't mind spending, I can use this coming year to set aside money specifically for this purpose. Another major concern for me is my privacy and how much social media presence will be expected of me. I am NOT an over sharer. Like, at all. So I need to decide what the best steps are to ensure that I can still market my work without getting myself into a bunch of situations that I am not comfortable with. I've found a few techniques already to help keep most questions on the topic of the book itself. I've been looking into a few different sites that I may be able to use to create my author's website and I also think having a Discord in lieu of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. may be the route I'd like to take first. The lead character owns her own catering business and some of the food will be described in detail, so I'm even thinking about doing YouTube videos where I show people how to make the dishes in the book. There is a huge misconception that anyone who wants to become known for something such as acting, writing, music, etc. has to abandon their rights to set boundaries and that any information about their life is for the taking, which I find to be completely absurd. Something else I've been thinking about is whether or not I can see this becoming a series of books. That's something I'm not really going to know for sure until the book is done. The book will have at least ten chapters, so I could definitely see the potential for it to become a short animated series or something. And along the lines of visuals and additional mediums, what do I want for cover art? How about an audio book? Lots of options to choose from. I'm making sure to write down my ideas and look up information and tips from best selling authors as well. This whole thing is one big learning process.
  2. I haven't written a story in years & have never written a full book so I've been studying up on various areas of creative writing, especially fiction writing. Here are some helpful links that I've found: https://www.entrepreneurwriter.net/how-to-punctuate-thoughts-in-fiction/
  3. Oh boy...the only thing I could think of at the end was 'Damn you, Akito & Shigure!' All I know is that some type of miracle better happen for Kyo & Tohru better not get hit again by that piece of filth, Akito.
  4. This is neat:

Looks so simple & yummy :)

My issue with baking or broiling anything with cheese on top is that I'm always concerned about leaving it in for too long.

  5. I've got the 1st few pages of my book done & am now going back to edit & revise before moving on. I've started watching lots of tutorials on creative writing & seminars given by some of my favorite authors like Stephen King to get information on some of the major elements of good writing i.e. character design, tone, grammar, where do they get their inspiration from, etc. Right off the bat I know that one of my weak points is describing the scene. I do excellent with people but if I want the story to be more engaging then I have to improve on how I write about where things are taking place. I'm learning a lot & am slowing incorporating these techniques into The Ruthisian Codex. If this turns out to be the only book I ever write, I want to be able to look back & know that I gave it everything I had.

  6. I've finally gotten started on writing The Ruthisian Codex and have completed a few pages. The book is about a woman who lives a pretty simple life until children begin to go missing & she discovers that she has special abilities that tie into an Ancient Egyptian religion that involved a book called The Ruthisian Codex. I haven't nailed down exactly what her abilities will be yet or which Ancient Egyptian deities will be involved just yet but that is the basic overview of the story. I've placed the 1st page below & would like your feedback. A few things to note here first: this is my very 1st book so I'm learning as I go & please do not steal my work. That last part should go without saying but you just never know. Thank you. The sounds of electric guitars & the smell of freshly prepared food traded places through the open windows with the sounds of heavy traffic & the almost overbearing heat. “Another day of lugging around orders while trying not to spontaneously combust. Awesome.” Phia muttered to herself as she dabbed sweat from her forehead & sprinkled some fresh dill over the spicy lemon tilapia for her last lunch rush order. The heat was annoying but deep down, Phia didn’t really mind all that much. Hell, this was busiest The Elusive Café had been in months & she was thrilled to have the business. She just would have been more thrilled if this turn of fortune wasn’t accompanied by the worst heat wave to hit the city in decades. Fortunately, all these lunch rush orders were being delivered to the business complex right down the street so at least she didn’t have far to go. Not to mention that most of the orders were for salads & cold sandwiches. Only a few orders were for hot food or baked desserts, which meant that the cart would be fairly light. She even remembered to place the chips & drinks at the bottom of the cart so she wouldn’t waltz out the door without them…again. As embarrassing as that was the last time that happened, today was much too hot for it. Besides, starting her own catering business had been a life-long goal of hers & Phia was well aware that too many silly mistakes like forgetting drinks could cost her big time so she had to pay attention. As she sang along to one of her favorite rock songs on the radio, an emergency message interrupted to announce yet another child had been reported missing. “Geez, how many does that make now, six?” Phia sighed as she closed the take-away container & clenched her fists. “What I wouldn’t give to get my hands on the monster snatching up these kids.” Just then a gust of hot air rushed into the window beside her as a strange sensation made its way down her spine. She didn’t know it yet, but her wish would soon be granted.
  7. Just finished the 1st paragraph of my book & my stomach is already in knots. My goodness, I wonder if this ever happens to Stephen King...

I got the 1st page done & I'm pretty satisfied with it. I've decided that I'm going to save each of the 10 chapters in separate files because I feel that will make editing easier. This is so exciting!

Super exciting. I wish you luck with your book :D

I hope to find it on shelves one day ^^

  8. I'm curious...has anyone in here either had or know anyone who has had an anime themed wedding? Also, if you could have an anime themed wedding, which anime would you choose? I've looked up some themes online but the ones I've found are mostly Sailor Moon, Naruto, Pokemon, & One Piece. I was super surprised not to find more of a variety, especially since I've seen so many creative & wonderful cosplay outfits.
  9. I'm thoroughly enjoying how messed up Monster is. Also, I've actually been able to get some progress made on my book. Spending the next few weeks designing the characters & may even get the intro written. Outlining is going to be huge for me because I've changed some of my original ideas for my lead character so I've got to keep them written down or I'll never keep all this straight. I've decided to add some Ancient Egyptian deities as well & am enjoying mixing in some of the lesser known gods & goddesses & deciding what roles they will play.

  10. Nice, another Samurai Jack fan :)

  11. I've made up my mind on Shigure and I just can't stand him at all. He treats everyone like their only reason for even being alive is to amuse him or help alleviate his boredom. He has so many sociopathic tendencies! His entire approach to relationships is flawed beyond belief. It's almost as if for him, the only way that any romantic relationship can begin and end is with a bunch of chaos, deceit, and manipulation. No Shigure....those 3 elements are not required for relationships. Now to be fair, romantically speaking, old relationships must end so that new ones can begin but that doesn't mean that that process inherently has to include someone getting rekt to epic proportions. Relationships can and a lot of times do end peacefully without a bunch of theatrics but Shigure doesn't seem interested in peaceful conclusions at all. Ugh.
  12. Lemon pepper broiled shrimp that I made for dinner:

  13. Decided to go with baked jumbo shrimp scampi tonight instead & my kitchen smells amazing!

  14. An egg white omelette, a bowl of cream of wheat made with almond milk, cinnamon, & nutmeg, an apple, and hot herbal tea.
  15. Haven't used my wok in a while. Might have to make some jumbo shrimp stir fry for dinner this evening.

  16. Finally! One of the Somas comes to turn with the dark side of their feelings & makes peace about it! Good on you, Kagura, for having the courage to admit that even though your love for Kyo is genuine it still isn't healthy due to its foundation. And I really like where this is going in regards to the "bonds" that Shigure & Tohru discussed. Also...again...what is Rin's problem!?!
  17. Just watched the 1st episode of Finding Paradisio & it's pretty good so far. Hana is going to be my favorite I can tell already :)

  18. Character Name: Alana Drusen Age: 35 Appearance: Personality: Diamond in the rough-She has a stern exterior but inside she is very caring & genuinely wants to make sure that those around her are ok, intelligent, tall & attractive with intense eyes & long, purple hair, remains calm in tense situations, always seems to have a backup plan, can handle herself in hand to hand combat & can quickly learn to use or make random weapons. Chapter 1: The week had been stressful with the abrupt news that everyone in her office would be required to work from home effective immediately & Alana had never been more thankful that she had ignored her naysaying counterparts during her 20s & started a career in commercial finance anyway. And although on a personal level the term 'essential worker' didn't quite sit well with her, she was immensely thankful to not be one of the millions of people who had lost their jobs due to the outbreak. Despite being given such short notice that her work situation was changing, Alana didn't panic. Hell, she never really panicked, especially when she knew she was prepared such as now. She had begun gathering emergency supplies like non-perishable food & bottled water, first aid supplies, basic medicine, toiletries, flashlights & batteries, etc. several months back when she first began seeing reports of the new viral strain on social media & easily had enough to last for almost 6 months. Being single & living alone during a large scale outbreak would present its fair share of challenges, but for Alana it also gave her an advantage in regards to rationing out food & supplies if it came down to that. Alana finished preparing the files she was working on for next week's big loan closing for one of her major healthcare investors & went into the kitchen to begin making dinner. As she turned on the kitchen light, she glanced at the backpack she had set down by her front door. She had packed it the night she saw the story about two men fighting which eventually resulted in one man biting the other. The backpack contained a few changes of clothes & underwear, a pair of running shoes, an extra phone charger(her extra laptop charger was already packed in her shoulder bag where she placed her work laptop every night once she logged off), a flashlight with extra batteries, a travel size first aid kit, some over the counter meds & pain killers, basic hygeine items, a bottle of water & some light snacks, pepper spray, & a combat knife. She prayed she wouldn't need to evacuate suddenly but if she did, she'd at least be ready to go at a moment's notice. She had also made sure that her car had a full tank of gas & had even purchased an extra canister which was full & in her trunk, right next to her second emergency backpack filled with the exact same items as the first bag, in the event that something crazy happened & she either left or dropped the first bag. These precautions may have seemed extreme but Alana knew she didn't have anyone else to depend on so she needed to be sure that she had all her bases covered. She had just pulled what she needed out of the fridge to make herself a large salad when her phone started vibrating. She was getting numerous alerts from her social media accounts warning people to stay indoors due to a rash of violent attacks that had begun happening in her city. A chill ran down Alana's spine. She quickly made & ate her salad before taking a quick shower & putting on some clean clothes. She had no plans of leaving right away but she would hate for something to happen in the middle of the night while she slept & then have little time to get ready to leave. She'd sleep on the couch in her clothes tonight just in case.
  19. What did you think of Goblin Slayer? I loved that anime Thus is the plight many of us are facing hehe.
  20. I'm liking Ghost Hound so far. The opening song is great & the show starts off with this unsettling feeling that I can get into.

Is it just me or does the animation look very... not smooth? You can kinda see everything moving, like they didn’t put quite enough frames. Maybe it’s just the intro...
