While it's not something I commonly do, I have made use of virtual machines for various older versions of Windows, as well as MacOS. For the most part it's something I do on rare occasion when I get an itch for revisiting some sort of particularly ancient and obscure bit of software from my past - not for anything particularly serious or productive... or when I feel simply like tinkering for the sake of tinkering, in the case that I end up captured by a flight of fancy.

Whenever I pick up an ebook, it almost always goes unfinished and eventually forgotten I'm sad to say. While I own an e-ink Kindle, I've never used it with any degree of regularity and often ends up out of sight and out of mind. Having an actual book laying about my apartment tends to help get me through things. Beyond that, I enjoy being able to collect things and have them up on shelves and the like. Can't really do that with digital copies, sadly.

Clannad fan, I see? This is good - you have my permission to stay. We're always on the look out for individuals of suitably refined taste. ... Silliness aside, welcome to AF!

Glad to hear that your money didn't go to waste!

Both sites are up on my end. What happens when you try to access them? Also, what country are you trying to access them from? I find this website to be useful when I'm having oddball issues with specific sites: http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/

I don't know that I'll be seeing it in a theater, since the next month or so are going to be a bit hectic for me, but I'll definitely give it a look when it's available elsewhere. The early reviews are sounding like the movie, despite being a true visual treat, is a little lacking in other departments, so I'm not exactly torn up about having to skip out on theater attendance. But, we'll see how it goes.

And that list doesn't even cover all of the Americanized adaptations of foreign from the last couple decades, otherwise it'd be even more ridiculously lengthy. Might be a good topic for a thread someday, given that this one appears to be going the route of being nothing more than fodder for hysteric, over emotional ranting regarding every change to the source material that has or may yet be changed, which isn't really my thing.

Hello hello, welcome, welcome, and all of that good stuff. Likewise, tbh. I am jealous! I'm planning a decent-length vacation there myself, but it's still a couple years away. What sort of things did you do? Don't worry. Yer doin' just fine. S'all good. Folks here are, for the most part, fairly easy to get along with. You should fit right in!

Thank you, I appreciate this information.

So it would have been better if he had been cast as a mild mannered Russian immigrant with a love for disco and bright purple spiked hair, who has a secret lair on top of a dance club where he works as a DJ at day while investigating crime by night? Since, you know, simply casting a black actor was, in and of itself, the absolutely worst thing they could have ever possibly done to the character. I might not be enough of a Deathnote fan to understand, I think. I apologize for the snark, but c'mon. You're reacting to a movie, not someone dragging your dog/cat/sister/brother/mother/father/PC/whatever out into the street and shooting it dead.

Given the degree to which the whole thing seems to be upsetting to you, I think the only advisable course of action is to not watch the movie, and to distance yourself from conversation and news regarding it. I don't say that to try and sound dismissive or anything of the sort - it's just clear that the whole thing bothers you a great deal, and that giving it your attention is only likely to result in bad feels given the perfectionism that you've mentioned. Since... really, the movie isn't going to be perfect, and it is going to be massively changed from the source material, no doubt beyond what we've already seen. Better to direct attention toward things that aren't so likely to bug you like this is.

(Spoilers!!!) My Higurashi questions. (spoilers!!!)
zoop replied to SAO LILDOOP's topic in Anime Discussion
I'm not an expert on this series, and a lot of my memory on the matter is a bit hazy, so this might not all be 110% accurate. 1: My memory is hazy, but I think it's probably the manager of the dam project, who was a father figure for Ooishi, which is why he was so hell bent on getting to the bottom of the Hinamizawa murders. 2: The young girl is Miyo, who you should be very familiar with at this point. The older lady isn't Rika per se, but ... ... ... ... [insert convoluted nonsense that I can not possibly ever be bothered to try and describe here], etc, etc, etc, etc. Her name is Bernkastel. Frederica Bernkastel. I guess she could be considered to have been born from the baggage of Rika's incessant torture? Why she appears as an adult there isn't something I know the answer to, since she's generally portrayed as being fairly young. Disclaimer: I don't often spend too much time trying to delve into the inner workings of Ryukishi07's writing. Probably, though, it was for the sole sake and purpose of confusing people. 3: I think it's more likely that when Rika jumps back in time or whatnot, the 'old' Rika is poof'd out of existence. Don't really know how this particular bit is supposed to work. 4: Again, I'm not overly clear on this one, but I just presumed that there was a certain element of randomness involved in the whole thing, and that that a certain degree of proximity to and from watanagashi was the average - allowing for variation in both directions. I may be wrong here, though. 5: The When they Cry wiki actually has a section called Flaws in Dr Takano's Report in their page for Hinamizawa Syndrome, which addresses the bit about brief visitors and tourists. I imagine that people who don't stick around for extended periods (like Akasaka) don't have too much to worry about, tbh. As for Tomitake, he benefited from the clinic's research into cures and inoculations. Again, dunno how accurate it all is. All I know is that Bernkastel is a bitch. -
It's less a matter of if the actor can pull those quirks off than it is a matter of whether or not those specific quirks were ever intended to be a part of the movie to begin with, tbh. For all we know, the L being portrayed here may have an entirely original set of oddities to him - it's way too early to be able to know much of anything about the character. I do agree that Light's look is a tiny bit goofy, though. With that said, I think it's fair to say that it is at least more promising than Dragon Ball Evolution ever was, if nothing else.

I was a member of an email based discussion list pertaining to a particular anime back around 1997 or 1998, and later ran a general anime discussion list myself until about 2002. Despite being email lists, they were in many ways functionally identical to a basic forum - to create a thread, you simply emailed the list bot with the title and content of your choosing, which would then be sent to everyone on the list, and to reply you simply replied to one of the incoming emails. It allowed for the same style of conversations (apart from forum game stuff - those tend to be a bit too rapid fire for email) and community building that traditional forums do, albeit in a slightly less streamlined form. I joined my first anime related forum-forum around 2003, which was focused around Type-Moon media and was the largest (and, well, only) English language community for it at the time. I mostly lurked though, and ended up parting ways after catastrophic events led to a change in ownership and in my opinion (and the opinions of the members I was closest to) a dramatic decrease in community quality. After that I bounced between a couple forums that popped up and died down as the years came and then. After a few of those, I eventually drifted away from anime communities to other fandoms. A few years later, though, I fled in terror back to anime after having witnessed some impressive shit elsewhere, only to realize that most anime communities weren't much better than where I'd been, leading me to search up and down for a place largely lacking in things that drive me mad. Congratulations, AF. You are literally the only forum I was able to find after a great deal of poking around that I had any desire to actually be on. ... I like making unnecessarily detailed posts in response to very simple questions.

Probably Mugi for me. Yui tended to be a little too air headed for me to really like all that much, and I found Ritsu to be a bit annoying in the second season - she started to remind me too much of Tomo from Azumanga Daioh. Mio makes for a close second behind Mugi though, enough so that it may actually be a bit of a toss-up. I didn't mind Azuna, but she never really stood out to me as being 'favorite' material.

Huh. Have you tried clearing your cache and all that stuff?

Welcome, new person, to this forum. May your time here be both enjoyable and fruitful.

Good point - and you're right, the publisher (Tokyopop) did go under. They were localizing a fair number of light novels at the time, including several that I was following. ;_;

Hrmm. Can't really say that April has anything that I'm looking forward to, to be honest. There may yet be a gem or two hidden here or there waiting to be revealed, but it's looking fairly dry for me at first glance. Ah well, I'm sure Mass Effect Andromeda will keep me busy well enough - it's next on my to-do list now that I've gone through Breath of the Wild. Beyond that, I'll be waiting a while for something new I think. I'd love to grab MK8 Deluxe, but my lack of a Switch is a minor inconvenience.

Breath of the Wild has been finished! Easily my favorite Zelda game, and probably fairly high up on my top five games list.

The top post here migh explain it to some degree. What browsers are you using?

Minorities make up over a third of the American population, unlike in Japan, where there's nowhere near as much variety population. If a story takes place in America, it makes sense in most cases that not every character would be of the exact same ethnicity, tbh. Personally, I'm quite interested in seeing what they do with the character.

Sure, I'll bite. Favorite male characters! 1: Tomoya Okazaki from Clannad When I originally went into Clannad, I wasn't expecting a whole lot, to be honest. Straight-up highschool romances don't often do a whole lot for me, but Tomoya's character throughout the show kept me engaged and interested. His character development through the series (and After Story, in particular) is second to none, and an absolute delight to behold. 10/10. 2: Satoru Fujinuma, from Erased. 3: Kyon, from The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi 4: Fuminori Sakisaka, from Saya No Uta 5: Nothing immediately comes to mind. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Favorite female characters! 1: Riesbyfe Stridberg, from Melty Blood, Carnival Phantasm Despite having an absurdly silly sounding name, Ries is probably my favorite female character at the moment. While primarily a character from the fighting game series, Melty Blood, she is featured in Type-Moon's goofball Carnival Phantasm anime, so she is a valid selection! A large part of my fondness for her comes from the fact that her personality and character closely match my own - she initially tries to come off as a serious, hardworking, no-nonsense sort (more of a thing in person in my case), only later revealing to the other character in the image above that in reality she's a lazy oaf that just wants to sit around and do as little as possible. Her lazy nature doesn't prevent her from putting everything she has into something when necessary though, or engaging in self sacrifice when it is needed. Coincidentally, my wife has a lot in common with the other character - the first time we saw the full scope of their interactions we had a massive giggle due to how familiar some of it sounded. So yeah. 2: Saya, from Saya No Uta 3: Raphiel Shiraha Ainsworth, from Gabriel Dropout 4: Shiki Ryougi, from Kara No Kyoukai 5: Nagisa Furukawa, from Clannad Top anime ship! Link x Mipha ... ... ... wait, that doesn't count? Okay, fine... Saya x Fuminori, from Saya No Uta. There's something heartwarming and special about a horrifying, madness-inspiring eldritch abomination in a loving and functional relationship. Most hated anime male characters! Uhh. Hrm. Nothing comes to mind at the moment, to be honest. Most hated anime female characters! This bitch. I dropped Nichijou because I was sick and tired of seeing and hearing her. That's all that comes to mind, to be honest. Favorite anime OST! Clannad. That damn dango song gets stuck in my head more often than I'd like to admit... the soundtrack is beautiful even beyond that, though. Runner up would probably go to Attack on Titan, for its absurdly epic music. Those are the only two that immediately come to mind as being particularly noteworthy. Waifus Erm... I suppose I'll say... 1: Saya, from Saya No Uta 2: Holo, from Spice and Wolf 3: Tohru, from Kobayashi's Dragon Maid 4: Luka Urushibara, Steins;Gate Husbandos Can't actually think of anyone I'd be able to put here. Not really my thing, at any rate. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

After the first season of the anime you go straight to the second season, Clannad After Story. The movie was made a few years prior to the anime, and if memory serves correctly, it's just an extremely condensed version of the same story, so there's no need to worry about it. And yeah, like Wodahs said, it's basically an alternate universe where events played out differently. There's another one later on in the second season that does the same thing with another character. They're basically just bonus "what if?" episodes.
