  1. Visual novels are always nice. Been a looooong while since I've really jumped into one, but it has been nice to see official localizations on Steam and elsewhere becoming more common. Haven't heard of Gothic Delusion specifically, however. I still have nightmares of the times I was pushed into playing this with one of my friends. I could never even begin to keep up with them, or even successfully finish most things. ^^;
  2. Love your avatar! Kobayashi's Dragon Maid was easily my favorite anime from the last season. Kanna is great. :)

I need to read the manga sometime... I've heard nothing but good things about it \o/

  3. Wonderful summary, thank you. I've always been the sort that prefers to get information via reading rather than watching videos, so I definitely appreciate the write-up. Sadly, from the sound of things, there isn't much going on in this Direct that is of immediate interest to me, but if nothing else it does sound like Nintendo is doing decently for itself.
  4. A certain measure of luck is needed in getting a community off the ground. In addition to luck, things like custom themes and quality forum software also help catch people's eyes. Another thing that helps is not having an invalid security certificate - if your friend is serious about trying to build a community, that is something that she should probably address immediately. Beyond that, it is often considered poor form to go onto one forum to advertise for another forum without first asking permission from the owner of the forum that you wish to advertise on. Just something to keep in mind for the future.
  5. Let us take a moment to silently join hands as we offer our hopes and prayers to those poor lost souls that came before us. May they find peace and rest, wherever they are.
  6. G'day! Welcome to the thing! Love the avatar! About the same, for me. Harems often cause me to immediately evacuate from an anime, and while I would love to love horror anime, I've found that - in my eyes, at least - they're typically done very poorly... so much so, in fact, that I rarely bother with them these days. :'(
  7. Caught this in a local theater early yesterday... Fandango had reported it as being a dubbed showing, which while not ideal for me was something that I was okay with, but it turns out that they'd been mistaken, as it ended up being subtitled. I cheered a little bit, myself, though I could see this being extremely irritating to others. Overall I found it to be a wonderfully enjoyable movie, one that I'm very thankful to have had the privilege to see on the big screen - it was very easily the highlight of my weekend and something that I cannot recommend enough.
  8. You should be able to download French subs for a lot of things, some anime included, here: https://u.subscene.com They'll come as one or more stand alone subtitle files, which - on most media players - you'll be able to add to add to downloaded files, DVDs, and (if you're feeling adventurous enough, since I don't think there's a totally straight forward way to do so at the moment), BluRays. Only snag is that you may need to try multiple files to find one that is perfectly in sync with your video.
  9. Bumpity Bump. The first movie has a title: presage flower, and a Japanese theatrical release date of October 14th. I'm extremely hyped up for this, though I am sadly all too aware that the Japanese theater date doesn't really mean anything to those of us outside of Japan, and lacking in Japanese language skills. x) Still, any news is good news.
  10. Hallo hallo, welcome, welcome! I think you've made a good decision with coming here. I spent a decent bit of time away from forums myself, and at the time I joined here I also poked around and in some cases joined several other anime forums and ... to keep a long story short, I found that this one had - by far - the most pleasant community, to say the absolute least. It isn't the most active forum on the planet, to be fair, but when it comes to community stuff I think quality is very much preferable over simple quantity - I mean, it doesn't matter how popular a forum is, how many posts per day it gets, if you can't stand the people there, if the manner of conversation doesn't appeal to you, or if the regular topics of conversation get on your nerves, it probably isn't going to end up being a positive experience. So... yeah, this is a pretty nice place. Stick around a while, and I think you'll end up agreeing with me.
  11. Hello, hello! Sounds like you're just getting started with anime? What sort of genres are you interested in?
  12. The number of folks that come here solely to post links to their Youtube videos and, and then leave immediately afterward is stunning. :x

  13. I don't care much for Re:Zero myself, but it's worth mentioning that 5pb has some very good visual novels under their belt - they're responsible for Steins;Gate for example, which bodes well for people who might be interested in this.
  14. I asked the site owner this same question (albeit privately) when I first registered, since some forums have goofy rules about that sort of thing. Thankfully I was told that there's no such rule here, so long as the posts are on-topic and of good quality - so nothing to worry about!
  15. Will I ever stop constantly swapping out avatars with wild abandon? Probably not, no.

  16. Enjoyable episode, I thought! I keep up with the manga so nothing really came as a surprise, but seeing the events come back to life in animation was a real treat. I'm glad to see that the animation style is keeping up with the benchmarks set during the first season, and rather look forward to seeing how far into the story the season will carry us. Hrm... I agree with this, to be honest. While I utterly love the first two openings, this one felt a bit more ho-hum to me. With that said, it may yet grow on me as time goes by.
  17. You're more than welcome, I'm always happy to offer folks a giggle whenever I can! Fair enough! Clannad just has a special place in my heart, is all.
  18. There are two things working in my favor with regards to that. First thing is the fact that I've got a fair bit of space in my apartment, and have been planning on buying some new bookshelves for the combined purpose of holding books and showing off various bits of goofy merchandise that I've collected over the years. Beyond that, the sad truth of the matter is that I just don't go through books at the same voracious pace that folks more dedicated than myself tend to - especially during the last few years, during which my lifestyle has been shifting steadily... as a result, I simply haven't been reading hardly at all. Thankfully things should be calming down a bit in the next month or so... I'll have a fair bit of stuff to catch up on, to say the least. ...speaking of, a general book recommendation thread would be a nice thing to have around here.

    Optical drives

Yep. I have a DVD drive that has been passed down through a couple generations of PCs. Previously the drive was used mainly for Windows installs and the like, but I generally just do that via USB these days. I'll probably keep it around regardless of how rarely it gets used, though. I'll probably buy a Blu Ray drive at some point though, since I want to start collecting imported copies of my foreign film collection... my preference would be to just buy a decent stand alone player, but not having external sub support would be a minor downer. In the past, I salivated over the thought of having a Blu Ray writer for the sake of being able to easily archive massive amounts of stuff, but at this point I already have more online (and local) storage available to me than I have any idea what to do with.
  20. Just my browser, generally. I have Acrobat installed, but more or less never actually end up using it for the most part outside of exceptionally rare occasions.
  21. I never was a fan of the TV series, but rather enjoyed the first two movies (heretical, I know) - I even had the chance to see the second one, subbed, at a lovely little local art house theater years back. It was extremely pleasant, and a ton of fun. I would have disagreed with this post if I had read it at that time. ... after having seen the third movie, however, I'm basically in agreement. I look forward for the fourth movie to be released, if only so I can see how silly things get before their conclusion.
  22. I don't tend to think that pocky is that great, but I absolutely adore red bean paste. I used to live right next to a Japanese grocery store, during which time there was almost always at least one red bean something in my kitchen. I'm not really a huge sweets person myself either, but I think I tend to like Japanese stuff a bit more than American, based on what I've sampled.
  23. I just looked this up, having never actually seen anything about it up to this point, and I must say --- it looks cute as hell. I'll be interested in hearing how it ends up, and may have to take a peek at it myself sometime in the future.
  24. I have a fair number of Spice and Wolf volumes to catch up on, myself. I really need to start working my way to them, but life has been hectic as of late. Lovely series, though. How far along are you?

    Narration

Huh. I always found the ever present snark and cynicism present by virtue of Kyon's constant narration to be one of the most charming aspects of the show, personally. The straight man dead pan works exceptionally well in my opinion, particularly during the increasingly oddball events of the show. I don't really think the series would have been nearly as enjoyable without it, tbh. With that said, that's about the only example of that sort of narration that immediately springs to mind with regards to anime. I think this really hits the nail on the head, to be honest.
