  1. Hallo, and welcome aboard. My first forum was a small emulation community back in 1998. I have distinct memories of acting like a total nimrod, and getting on the nerves of a great many people with my childish antics. ... forum software was amazingly crappy back then.
  2. highly unlikely, gay girls and gay males don't mix that way, etc.
  3. Alas, as much as I might appreciate evil, and as much as genuinely adore bunnies, I've long since been taken off the market. It could have been beautiful, no doubt, but fate has conspired against us. I hope you understand, and I want you to know that it breaks my heart to break your heart, but... :'(
  4. I married a yandere. She isn't bipolar, or anything of the sort - she just has a temper that burns very hot, a tendency toward chaotic evil perspectives, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to get something done. We have a very pleasant dynamic - I enable and encourage many of her bad habits until things look like they're going to get out of hand, at which point I pull her back down to Earth. We both have very flexible senses of morality, so this arrangement tends to work very well. She also warned me in advance, very seriously, that if I ever tried to divorce her, that she'd murder me. It made me feel very warm and fuzzy inside. Love is beautiful.
  5. When it comes to threads like this, I tend to veer slightly toward the more realistic-ish side of things. With that in mind, I can think of only one possible lady to put forth in this thread. Mudder farkin' Balsa, from Seirei No Moribito is a badass of extreme level that manages to keep her clothes on while fighting, and is one of the best spear fighters I've seen in anime that features slightly-grounded-in-realism fighting. Besides being an exceptionally skilled combatant, she's also an excellent human being that benefits heavily from intelligent writing. </fangirl>
  6. Aha, that sounds interesting. I'm fairly artistically disinclined myself, but at the very least I've tossed the idea of giving some super basic model building/painting a try some day... though I'm sure that has little relation to what you've been doing. x) And yes, it's nice to meet you as well!
  7. I don't like it. In most cases, unless it's handled in a way that is sufficiently amusing - genuinely amusing, not just idiotic slapstick - it prompts an immediate strike-out for me. I don't have an issue with the fact that it exists, I don't care if people like it, it's just not for me. A little bit of well executed fan service is cool, but if it reaches a certain point I'm just like 'nope, bai' ... if I used one of those anime listing services, the amount of things listed as being dropped in the first episode would be astronomical. I just... can't... enjoy a series if I'm too busy rolling my eyes to read the subtitles. ^^;
  8. Definitely nothing wrong with them, though I think I'd personally learn more toward a set or two of these thingies, which I might pick up at some point in the not too distant future.
  9. What sort of project was this? School, or such?
  10. Top ten list? Normally I struggle with these, but in this case I have a handy-dandy text file I use to keep track of my favorites that I've already agonized over! * Clannad * Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works * Fate/Zero * Erased * The Twelve Kingdoms * Spice and Wolf * Another * Kara No Kyoukai * Azumanga Daiho * Carnival Phantasm
  11. I'm definitely okay with cute and mushy, so I'll have to take a look. And that's good to know, regarding Ghost Hunt - I'll definitely be resuming it with that in mind!
  12. I absolutely adore Azumanga... though, sadly, it seems like most folks that I talk with these days have never even heard of it. I've been slowly watching through Ghost Hunt recently, and have been enjoying it, though I wasn't a huge fan of the last arc I watched (Forbidden Pastime, 14-17)... other than that however, it has been a fair bit of fun to go through. Beyond that, I should really give Chobits a try someday.
  13. Hiya! I'm fairly new to this place myself - has been a pleasant time so far, so I think you'll like it well enough. Similar to you, I also met my spouse partially via anime - it remains one of our favorite hobbies to this day. What are some of your current favorites?
  14. Ahhh, I gotcha - that does make sense. And yeah, I totally agree... I know a lot of folks like the whole fanservice/ecchi/etc stuff, but it's almost always a major turn-off for me. I have watched some shows that have handled it decently enough that it didn't bother me (Konosuba comes to mind as a good example), but more often than not, it's just thrown into things in a really dumb way. I'm happy that it has so far avoided falling into that sort of trap.
  15. My wife and I recently watched and finished Clannad, and found that some of the themes contained in the after story portion were fairly relevant to us. Minor spoilers may ensue, as an FYI. Specifically, that it's important to live in the moment and to value what you have right now, because you never know when you might lose it. For the last couple years we've been focusing very heavily on future plans, which is great, but we had been doing so to the point that we were starting to no longer place emphasis on current happiness in favor of future happiness. While it may seem a bit silly, the loss and tragedies in the after story helped to snap us out of our haze - we've since restructured our long term goals in such a way that they aren't infringing on our ability to enjoy the present. While this may mean that certain things will have to wait a little bit longer, it has had a very positive impact on us overall. It's important to have a good idea as to where you want to go in life, but like anything else, it is perfectly possible to overdo it to the point of being counter productive. The eventual revelations regarding the protagonist's father - specifically the fact that he had more or less sacrificed his own happiness and mental health in a desperate bid to give his son a decent start in life - also spoke heavily to my wife, who also came up in a single parent household, and had been growing a bit frustrated with some of her parent's current issues in life, by reminding her that her parent had also sacrificed a great deal for her to ensure that she would have as fair a life as possible despite the deck honestly being stacked against her. So... yeah, that happened.
  16. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STMAeSm8VMY Bubble Ghost, on Commodore64. It was... not... particularly... good. I also had other awesome games like Space Invader, Defender, Centipede, Millipede, and... and... that's about all I can remember. It was a bit pathetic, but thankfully my family was able to get an NES for Christmas in 1989. ... yes, my earliest memories are all about video games. v_v
  17. I just stick with qBittorent, myself. It's fairly simple, straight forward, and no-frills, but I can appreciate that. I can recommend it for folks looking for something light weight and easy to use.
  18. Starting a forum tends to be easy enough if you know what you're doing. Getting people onto the forum, and keeping them there, tends to be the difficult thing. And... just to clarify, are you talking about creating a forum as a type of dating service for anime folks? If that's the case, and if you did decide to go through with it, and if it actually took off - which, to be frank, I don't think to be likely - you'd need to viciously enforce a no minors policy for the sake of keeping yourself out of trouble if some impressive shit goes down behind private messages, which it eventually would. I'm not being hyperbolic, either - I've personally had to deal with this sort of thing on normal, non dating forums, to say nothing about a forum who has it as a stated purpose. Thankfully I've never had to deal with anything that required me personally contact law enforcement though - someone else got stuck with that particular honor. So, you'll have to forgive me for being hyper cautious. Given that you, yourself are a minor - your stated age on your profile is 15 - I don't think it's really something that should be high on your priorities list right now. Apologies if anything here has sounded harsh, but... sometimes that's how it goes.
  19. I watched this last night, actually... didn't expect to actually like it, but it surprised me by being legitimately amusing. That said, I'm not really sure that I'd classify this as ecchi, to be honest - compared to most things I see with that tag, it is extremely tame. There are some questionable jokes here and there, but we're three episodes in and there hasn't really been any terribly overt fan service or other such things... which works for me, since I tend to bail from that sort of anime fairly quickly. I think the harem thing remains to be seen, though I'm hoping it doesn't fall too deeply into that trope. As it stands, one character seemed to be mostly playful with regards to the main character, one has what could very well (and would be most sensible) just be a short lived crush on someone that has been very kind to her, though the third and oldest character might actually have something going for her. Potentially. I dunno, just seems a bit early to tell for sure. I'm hoping they don't lose their originality - I wanted to love Monster Musume so much, but it just didn't work for me. I'm hoping this one fares better. My only regret is that there's a shocking lack of nagas in this one. Pity.
  20. Someone that enjoys rap/hiphop. I've had to listen to a lot of impressive bullshit from people in the past more than once when they learn that I'm a fan. And, because I love goofy mashups, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSkocU5YsHU

    Injury

Anyone have parents that do a lot of outdoor cooking on a charcoal grill? It's awesome, right? Did your parents ever warn you, when you were a kid, not to play near the grill? Did you listen? Good on you! ... I didn't. As a result I got a bit crisped up on my right arm, bad enough that I had to spend a couple nights at a hospital. I don't actually remember the whole thing - just running around playing with my older brother, followed by ... nothing. I have no recollection of what happened next. I was five years old. Somehow, though, I was blessed enough to not come out of it looking like Hanako from Katawa Shoujo (though, to be fair, I think she's unbelievably adorable), and at this point have absolutely zero visible scarring, outside of a couple very faint marks that are hard to notice, unless your face is entirely too close to my arm or side for my comfort. Beyond that, I also broke my right arm at one point, and was stabbed with a soldering iron - again on my right arm. Notice a trend? Everything that goes wrong with me, happens to my right side. You'd probably think that I'd be a bit nervous around fire and other hot things after having had the chance to get up close and personal with a hot grill, but thankfully that's not the case. I really, really, hate getting burned though, but I think that goes for everyone.

    Wasabi Peas

I love wasabi snacks - the peas are quite good, but have you ever tried wasabi cashews? I may be biased due to enjoying cashews a great deal in general, but I find that the underlying flavor of the cashews blends better with the coating, whereas the taste of the peas can sometimes shine through a bit too much for my liking. With that said, the cashews in my experience are a tiny bit stronger than the peas, so it may not be quite to your liking. Personally, I'm a wasabi nut, so your mileage may vary. I'd recommend giving them a try, though. ... makes me miss living across the street from a Japanese market. Sheesh.

    Forum Backends

I know this is bloody damn well ancient, but it's something that I have a little bit to say about so... forgive me my indulgence? ^^; I feel the need to pull this thread back up to the top, if only to talk about how much I really, really dislike MyBB. I'm not sure how it is these days, but years back I was stuck in the unenviable position of lording over a forum that for some fool reason was using a prerelease version of it - it was either RC1 or 2. At the time it felt like a bootleg version of phpBB, with an admin panel that often felt like a scavenger hunt whenever you'd need to go in and do much of anything. It was a bit of a pain. I've never really been a fan of vBulletin either, to be honest, though I only have experience with it from a user perspective. I've never been able to put my finger on what it is specifically about it that bothers me, but there's something about the interface that just grinds at me when I use it. The fact that nearly every vBulletin forum I've visited has had awful themes installed probably hasn't helped. SMF is... well... that one thing, that I always forget exists. Similar to MyBB, it has been years since I've used it, but the one thing that sticks in my memory regarding it is just one word: Boring. Not always a bad thing, but not terribly inspiring all the same. - "IP.Board" Have you ever used a piece of software that you want to like? That you really, really, really, want to like --- but you can't? You can't because for all the things it does right, it does roughly eleventy zillion things completely and absolutely horribly? I have. Her name was IP.Board. Our relationship was beautiful, at first, as these things tend to be. She had beautiful curves, you know, and a personality to match. Easy to get along with, not lacking in charm, a real trend setter that one. The first year was a dream, but then... well... then the wrinkles began to show. I have about five years of past experience with IP.Board from an administrative perspective split between two different forums, and through that time the sheer amount of things that would just break, seemingly at random was never anything short of astounding. The forum search died frequently, requiring tremendous amounts of time spent debugging, little features like the Most Liked Content page would sputter and time out, meticulously crafted user profiles would randomly get garbled up, and ... and ... to be honest I've purged most of the issues I had from my mind. Originally, on the first of the two forums I helped out on, I thought these issues to be the fault of the owner - someone who, in hind sight, fancied himself a master programmer and server admin, but in reality just had delusions of grandeur. I wasn't entirely incorrect in thinking this, he did in fact create a huge number of issues through simple carelessness, but that wasn't the whole of it. When the second forum frequently experienced those same issues, with an owner who's skill and care I knew to be top notch, it became slightly more difficult to blame them on operator error. This became increasingly clear when we'd have IPS Support assisting with debugging our issues (one of the perks of paid forum software) - during our not infrequent communications with them, we slowly came to a horrible conclusion: They didn't actually understand their own software. This was during the final years of their 3.0 forum software, when the bulk of their attention and efforts were on completing 4.0, and it showed. Updates to the 3.x versions to fix one bug often introduced another or more, and so on. Sometimes the bugs introduced were worse than the bugs being fixed. It was obnoxious as hell, though I suppose that underlines just why they were so focused on getting 4.0 out - the old version was simply too bloated and overly convoluted to deal with. True story: it was so bad it drove that second owner to just write her own damn forum software, though it's no longer around these days. Fun tidbit: while working on importing the old IPB data into the new software, we gained new appreciation for just how horrifyingly messy IP.Board's database is. So yeah... I have some fairly strong feelings about forum software, to say the least. That said, this is actually my first time using Xenforo. It's taking a bit of getting used to here and there, but overall it seems to deliver on IPB's strong points fairly well, with none of the issues I've become used to. If anyone has actually read through this without just skipping to the end or questioning my sanity, I applaud you.
  24. I'm not much of an alcohol fan, myself, though I enjoy a cocktail or two on special occasions. Creme de cacao, cream, and soda water to taste is rather delightful. Beyond the boozy stuff, I'm saddened by the lack of Thai iced tea and horchata in this thread - I never visit a Thai or Mexican restaurant without ordering one! Or two! Thai iced tea is a wonderfully sweet and creamy thing that tastes more or less nothing like any other tea drink I've ever had. It has a unique taste that nearly everyone I've introduced to it has immediately fallen in love with. Except my parents. Bastards. Horchata, meanwhile, is a drink made from steeping water in ground rice and almonds for long periods of time, with added sugar and sometimes a bit of milk. Sort of like a soft-drink version of almond milk with subtle flavor and sweetness that, to me, puts soda to shame. ... and I'm the sort of hipster that buys Pepsi's 1893 cola.

    Headphones

I tap one black mana and with it call forth the power needed to cast... This is where I reveal myself to be a bit of an audio nut. I use AKG k702s, which are high end open back over ear headphones with detachable cable, powered by a Little Dot Mk III headphone amp, and (soon, anyway) a Schiit Modu Multibit DAC. I've previously used a pair of k701s, and before that Sennheiser HD580s. k701/k702/q701/etc headphones are beautifully comfortable for extended use, sound awesome, and have very generous soundstages. That said, they're not for everyone - people who place particular emphasis on bass in particular may find them a bit lacking. I've head that this isn't a concern with the more recent k712 however, which is probably what I'l go with for my next pair. Good on you! In case anyone can't tell from the spiel I just wrote above, I'm a bit of an AKG fangirl.
