  1. This is an, interesting anime, but it's also kind of reminder of what can happen when an anime gets too popular or the animators get too comfortable with a style, because ufotable made this one look so much like Tales of Zesteria the X that I hard time telling the difference. Even the enemies look like Hellions, almost exactly. That said, the idea is interesting as it follows a group of characters whose job it is to stop another group from altering history, though to what end is not explained. The animation is of course really high because ufotable, but the plot is also very basic and it's kind of hard to expect anything major out of it when it seems like they will often end up in places where Samruai Swords and garb are commonplace for both sides. The action might end up alright, and they clearly aren't afraid to show blood, but it's not clear after episode 1 if it's a show worth spending time on. I'd give it a 6/10 for that reason.
  2. So to summarize, this anime is basically a high school drama about gambling, and people possibly getting out of rough situations but it's full of holes from the get go. First and foremost as I said in a thread not too long ago, always having high school kids as the focus can be a problem, and when you throw gambling into the mix it becomes that much worse. A kid shouldn't have the skills necessarily to think ahead in the ways needed to gamble, never mind an entire academy that can do it. On the one hand, a anime about gambling is interesting as an idea, but even from the first episode it's pretty clear that the setting is just another excuse to have a character be perfect in every way, well beyond their years. On the other hand it is somewhat interesting to have someone other than the MC be the person who gets into tough situations, but when he took a backseat to the gambling going on, he wasn't the MC anymore because the character focus was switched to the one in the situation, and the last scene was basically there to remind us she wasn't the MC. The anime has potential, but I feel like it's pretty much going to be the food wars or SAO MC complex just in another setting, where despite the odds, the character we're more supposed to cheer for wins, or if and when they lose, it ultimately won't matter that much. Animation quality aside, I'd give this anime 5/10 at best and warn against watching it if everything I said doesn't appeal to you in some way.
  3. “I see now that the circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant. It is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are." "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost." Even without the Alchemy bit that comes after this, that really true for the world.
  4. https://d.wattpad.com/story_parts/198058346/images/1421ced6f9988fb7.gif Road Kamelot comes to mind.
  5. Excuse the twist on the cliche "Springtime of Youth!" dialogue, but this Spring has had some good OP's. Kind wondering, what's your favorite OP of Spring? Here are some of mine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9prtl1aVcdM For some reason Boruto's opening is something of a required part of watching an episode for me, even though it doesn't do a good job of portraying it's characters per say. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKP-vZvjbh8 Some people may not like this OP as much because it's kind of reserved compared to the famous one from the first season, but I really like it. There are other OP's I want to talk about, but I'm honestly so tired that I can't be bothered. What are some of your favorite OP's for this season?
  6. http://gematsu.com/2017/06/seven-deadly-sins-britannian-traveler-teaser-website-opened http://gematsu.com/2017/06/5pb-announces-wrong-try-pick-girls-dungeon-dungeon-action-rpg Man I don't know. Too many games based off of anime these days, and not always the most popular ones either. Also, 5bp making the latter of these two, I don't know about that, even more so because that anime is nearly obscure at this point. Also, excuse me for saying it, but seriously 7 Deadly Sins is a bad show because everything about it is basically 90's and early 2000's tropes with no substance beyond that to back it up. It's just an anime that's years late so I don't know how they'll make a good game out of it.
  7. I'd be indifferent I guess. I don't really know Nector all that well.
  8. For me, Visual Novel's are an interesting beast. My introduction to them was a demo for a game that was constantly acting like it was going to get into a fighting game's style of combat and never got there, so I found myself annoyed because I really didn't understand what VN's were and I ended up feeling like I wasted my time. A while later I picked up a game for the DS that I had seen no marketing for called Zero Escape: 9 hours, 9 persons, 9 doors and found myself instantly hooked on the characters. Eventually I got so immersed in the game that I kind of forgot that there wasn't any combat in it. When the second one came out for 3DS and Vita, I had to continue it, and I liked it, just not as much. About a year later, I found out about Danganronpa, and I became hooked. That said, I've had a hard time finding a visual novel outside of either of those series that I can enjoy. I get, these are pretty much the two biggest of the lot of them, but I just don't like how a whole bunch of them try to rely on fan service over quality like a lot that I've seen. It defeats the purpose of telling a playable story in the form if people remember more about the TNA sections than the story itself. So, I do like visual novels, it's just hard to find ones that I'll enjoy.
  9. You needn't worry about age. There is very little difference in age between you and I, and I as well at one point was in your current position where anime is concerned. Knowing this forum, they'll be more than happy to get you up to speed should you so desire it.
  10. Just to clarify, Ghibli's not the name of a person or anything. It's the name of a Studio made by Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata with funding from Yasouyoshi Tokuma and it later added in Toshio Suzuki while their first film as a team was being made. I assume the works you are referring to are Miyazaki-san's with the he, given that despite his talents, Takahata-san's work was rarely received as well, or even nearly as well. Studio Ghibli has also had several directors over the years, including Miyazaki-san's son Goro. I would have thought that maybe you miss typed, but you said it so often I have a feeling that's not the case. That said, the rest of your post I can agree with.
  11. Hanasaku Iroha is one of my anime obsessions, I feeling that by the end, you'll enjoy it quite a bit more than you already are. It's just such a wonderful show.
  12. I gotta say to, that despite they are one of those bands where the girls and what they do are always fun to watch and they always look incredibly beautiful doing it, even when they aren't trying to. That appeal is only a small reason why I like them though. Their songs are simply fantastic.
  13. That's honestly pretty difficult because it's nearly the same thing as picking my favorite anime character ever, not quite mind, but podium for sure. That said, if I had to pick one, it would be Faye all the way. She is one of the first women in any form of media that I will never be able to forget and that impact alone makes her pretty important as a character to me. She's a lot more than that though so I have to go with her.
  14. Right now, it's "Cause you're my Star" It's really catchy and cute without being too bubbly, which wouldn't fit it in the first place.
  15. Which one do you think was the best?
  16. I think we've found Pyramid Head's oddly sexy sister. I'll hug it.
  17. Looks like a hugger anyways so yeah, absolutely.
  18. I think I've become kind of obsessed with APINK. They really do the whole charming female group thing really well and I've been suckered in.
  19. Can't argue with any of that. It's all logical thought.
  20. Hello Shikage and welcome to AF. New members are always welcome and we are all always happy to see them. I hope we can all make your time here enjoyable.
  21. 1. Whats something you want everyone to have in the world? A chance. Regardless of race, income, where they were raised or any of that, one thing I would want everyone to have is a chance to do what it is they want to with their lives. Sure, that may not always be a good thing, and some may commit horrible acts if given that chance, but that's what people who would like to stop people from doing such things are for, should they get their chance. 2. How would you end all wars? I'd like to lie and say I have an easy solution for that, but honestly, the question is phrased, it's almost like I'm being told to come up with one answer, despite how every war could stop with a different solution. For example, I wanted the fighting for Israel to stop, I would promise those who would try to invade it that the nuclear weapons Israel has for it's protection, would no longer be pointed their way so long as they agree to no longer attempt to invade it. In Africa, for those who fight over who owns what land, I would promise to do whatever I could to take the poor out of poverty and ultimately help it become a 1st world nation, so long as they agree to work together, and share extra resources they aren't giving the rest of the world, so that people stop dying of hunger both it their country, and in the rest of the world. It all varies depending on what brings up problems that lead to war in the first place. 3. Whats your favorite animal? Honestly, this might sound weird, but I don't have one. I thought for the longest time it was either cats or dogs, because they are the animals I have the most experience with but honestly, I like them both the same. 4. Whats your favorite vehicle? Pretty much any S class Mercedes. I have a certain respect for cars of that make and the S class has always been my favorite, hand down. As to wish S class car is my favorite, it really depends when new models come out, because that is subject to change. 5. How do you deal with sadness? A lot of ways. Listening to music, although I don't do that as often as I used to, watching things that might make me happy cry instead, posting on forums, talking with people. There's no one solution for sadness where I'm concerned, and sometimes even a mix of what I do is called for. 6. Would you help someone on AF if they were depressed? Absolutely, so long as they came to me and let me know, because I wouldn't want to assume. In my life, I've helped several people get through depression, even when it's taken years, and there has never been a greater joy in my life than when their quality of life starts improving because of my input, and the nice thing about it, is that even if it takes time, it's not difficult. It's all about reading what's told to you and knowing when to talk and when to listen. 7. Whats your hobby's? Playing games and talking about them is a big one, although I'd like to make the latter my career. Beyond that there's watching movies or anime or just looking around the internet to understand what's going on in the world. 8. Who's got it harder men or women? As a man I am taught from a young age to be stoic about my situations, and as an adult, I am reprimanded for showing almost any emotion, namely anger, when I am treated differently because of my gender. One of the worst things I have ever heard from another man I call a friend, was when a woman walked up to him and told him he should probably stop chasing his daughter around because it looks perverse. This happened while he was playing tag with her in a park, a situation that was considered completely normal when he was a kid, and one she should be able to do without people treating him like that. I myself have had people pull their kids away from me and give me dirty looks like somehow I'm a threat to them. That's absolutely insane, but it happens, and often, all because of assumptions based on gender, and I'm not supposed to react to that. I'm told that I'm not allowed to like kids because that's perverse, yet when I was a kid, leaders in my church for kids groups could be men and nowadays that almost never happens. How I am to be stoic when I'm told that it's okay that I be treated like that simply because of my gender, instead of my history. I don't enjoy people using the term white cis male un-ironically either because it sounds like a way to generalize and get revenge on all white people, even if they never supported white supremacist ideals. And here I am, meant to be stoic through all of that, because otherwise I am either weak or a criminal. A woman can get away with being abusive to her children and even in divorce, even if the husband is the better of the two options between parents he'll often lose his custody battle because he is male. I've seen it happen, and yet I'm supposed to take that like it's normal, like it's fine, like I shouldn't feel anything because something is wrong with me if I do. Men have to deal with their issues in silence because society tells them that something is wrong with them if they don't, and I'm supposed to be fine with that. Yes, there are male dominated jobs, and yes men can be paid more in the work place, and yes men often make choices for women in certain situations, but given all that men are told to deal with in silence, which is practically everything, can you blame all of them, can you really give every single man the same treatment because the ones in charge do things that the rest of us don't agree with, and we aren't allowed to speak out against them in a sense? I once had a friend tell me how much easier it is to be a man, because we don't have the same kinds of emotions that women do, but that's not really true, we're just told, to be silent. 9. Whats the best joke you have ever heard? You'll excuse me if after that last one, I don't feel like like telling jokes. 10. *Your own fact about yourself* I am statically, an anomaly. Most men who lose their fathers at an early age don't accept a religion where the god or gods are accepted as fathers, but I did. Most people aren't left handed, but I am. Most diabetics go to the doctor or get admitted to hospital 7 times or more a year for diabetic related issues, but I don't.
  22. I'm gonna go with someone that's maybe a little bit off the rails here and say Black Star from Soul Eater, if only because I understand his determination to prove himself to the world, and I can appreciate how serious he is when the time comes despite being hated by some to the point of nearly dying on a few occasions.
  23. I think this is one of those films where cutting things out of the manga, actually kind of works. Yeah in the long run you can argue there's less content here than in he manga, but the argument is as old and tired as limiting episodes of things like this when they get a season of anime dedicated to them. The parts that are cut off from the manga for this animated films are not important to this part of the story, because in the end this is all about a guy who makes mistakes that he regrets and wants to make up for them. A thing we can all relate to, but that we don't often get the chance to do. The parts that are missing from the manga are only important because they get concluded in that manga, where as here, the only parts brought up from the manga for the film are solved. Calling this movie, if anyone would do that, because it's missing parts of the manga, is like calling Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings Trilogy bad because it didn't have Tom bombadil or show Mary killing an Olog-hai troll. We know that not to be true, so there no reason to think otherwise here. It's not the same, but it still tells a complete, and honestly emotional journey through the life of a child who's matured and wants to do what he can to make up for his best transgressions as best as possible, despite being criticized and hated for it sometimes even more harshly than what he himself did in the past.
