efaardvark Posted July 29, 2024 Share Posted July 29, 2024 A bit cooler today. Still warm but I actually went outside to get some vitamin D at lunch. No detectable smoke smell for a change either. Guess they got the local fire(s) under control. Last I heard the closest fire to me was 88% contained. Maybe the wind is just blowing it away from me. Either way, I'll take it! There were severe storm watches all day today but I never saw more than a drizzle. I did hear thunder boom once or twice and could see rain far off in the distance but it never hit downtown where we are at. I haven't honestly checked to see, I just saw that there could be spin ups on the weather channel last night. I did hear some rain and thunder this morning around 4 AM I think it was, that's probably when the storm finally moved in. It was kinda darkish on and off all day today too. I saw one pretty cool lightning strike in the distance that looked like it hit something, it was really bright. The good thing about living so high up is you can see out into the distance for miles so you can watch all these storms move in and I like that. It is still thundering in the distance and we are still issued a flash flood warning until 8 PM. Sakura Posted August 1, 2024 Share Posted August 1, 2024 Yeah we had really crazy storms blow in in the afternoon today. I thought the tornado siren might go off but it never did. The rain was coming down so hard at one point though I could barely see across the street and there was some hail mixed in with the rain. I can understand that, loud high winds always make me a bit nervous and I worry that some damage might be done to the house. I'm not really afraid of thunder but my house is in a fairly quiet road so any sudden loud noise will make me jump! I do worry a bit about lightning because a lightning strike can set fire to a house. We again had another severe thunderstorm around an hour ago. I was sitting on the couch and a loud crack of lightning shook the entire building and it had struck the building next fire which was starting to smoke. It looked like the fire department came quickly and they have been over there for over an hour now.
