Do you buy used games?

Do you buy used games and where do you buy them?

I some times go to Game Stop or look in family owned stores. I mainly buy for my PS3...but I have been buying used games for my PS4 because it is cheaper.

I do check to see how rough around the edges the game is. If it looks too messed up or wasn't taken care of by its previous owner, than I won't buy it. That's just me though.

I've never bought used games for the fact it doesn't have the new game smell and it could have a problem so I try and go for a new disc but now since I'm more of a PC gamer I usually just buy of steam,GOG and Humble Bundle and if I get a game for PS3, PS4 or Xbox then I just get a new one unless its an old game that can only be bought second hand.

I agree, I rarely buy used games but that is mainly because my friends and I work in a way which we each buy a game and then send it around for everyone to play (there is only three of us so its no biggy). When i do buy used games its usually a year or two after it released due to me forgetting about it.

Well, I am a retro collector. If the game is really old, I really don't have a choice, do I? If the game is over five years old I'll get it new, otherwise I'll hunt for a new copy. Surprisingly, after buying maybe nearly a hundred used games in my life, I never got a defect.

Sony does have an interesting 'Greatest Hits' program that can break this rule though. I was so glad that Chrono Cross (a PS1 game) was re released back when I got it in 2012. It was only $15. Though physical re-releases where they reprint a game over a decade later like that probably won't happen in the near future with such a huge digital market.

I honestly dont really look for either. Before I had a job, I would have to look for used games to be able to afford it. Gamestop has a policy that they dont sell broken/scratched games (at least here anyways) so I don't have to worry about that issue.

Now that I have a job, I still sorta do that because new games are like $60 and thats kinda scary sounding when you have the option of being able to buy food, and having a car and phone or buying new games ^^;

But recently, all my 3ds gamed have mostly been new and my wiiu games.

Tl;dr

Both are fine with me tbh

New games are nice doh

Here is my problem with used games and its not because they are used. :D

If I want a newer game I will go to gamestop and I always check if I can get it in the used section instead of new first. Save money right? Wrong. Once I'm in the used section I will get sucked into to buying games that I don't need or taking a chance on because they are cheaper. Although I haven't done it recently it's never good. Whether its video games or not I am always a sucker for a good deal even if I don't need it.

When you collect old games, new is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too expensive, if it's even an option.

Whether or not I buy used depends entirely on the availability, price and whether or not I wanna support the company. Last year, Sega's managed to kill what little respect I had left for them, so I now rarely, if ever, buy their non-Puyo Puyo games new. Bayonetta 2 I don't think counts; Nintendo published that one.

Hell, even if the next Sonic game is the best one in all of existence (which is very unlikely), I'll wait until it hits the used bin; I just don't want to support Sega anymore.

  • 3 months later...

I do on occasion, and I bought more second hand in the past, than I do now, however I also buy second hand as a "stop gap" until I buy a new version, unless its for hand held (which means the data's stored on the game), or a new copy is stupidly expensive, or rare!

Examples:

  • Stupidly expensive - New copies of Pokémon LeafGreen/FireRed, £149.99, I'm sure you can see it's like you're buying Pokémon by the pound ;);
  • Stupidly rare - Sakura Wars - So Long My Love, I should have bought it back when it was new, even though I didn't have a Wii, still don't, but I have a Wii U ;)!
