  1. AT&T confirmed the install.. tomorrow is when the fiber comes.

Still trying to get my head around 300Mb broadband.  I mean, I remember 300 baud modems, 2Mbit arcnet, and 10Mbit ethernet.  Data from NASA's Mars spacecraft comes down at around 6Mb.  My current DSL is about 10 (upgraded from 56kb dialup).  300Mb be like...FLCLsmile.gif.f3b5f684b271f685252a01cc73f16c0a.gif

The line I have just recently got upgraded from 4 (yeah I know, who knew something like that still existed) to around 50. To be honest though I didn't notice too much of a difference when it comes to downloads. Naturally I download stuff a lot faster, but I didn't really download much anyway (except for 'streaming' in a way). Biggest change that I personally noticed was in upload speed when uploading stuff for work or as online backups. Something that took hours now takes minutes, which is great 😂
Let us know what you think after you have used it!

My uplink on the DSL is abysmal, relatively speaking... just 1.2Mb/s.  Ok for sending email, but that's about it.  Most of the DSL bandwidth is allocated to the downlink.

Update on the fiber install:  AT&T missed their installation window.  This means no fiber yet.  :(  I got a robocall from AT&T informing me of the news and I immediately tried calling back to see if I have to reschedule or what, but all I got was a message saying to call back during business hours.  Looks like I'll probably have to wait until Monday at least.  😿  Unless the guy just shows up tomorrow.  We'll see.

  2. Hi Diana! That's not old. Try double that .. and then add a bit for good measure. 55 here!
  3. I saw that! Now I just have to decide if I want to start watching it now or wait and binge it, assuming I can. Wait I mean.
  4. For me too. I don't like the never-ending ones in the first place because I'm typically after the story and you can't have a story without an ending. When they get to 50+ eps they tend to get repetitive and/or have a lot of filler too, so in general I tend to avoid the long ones simply for being long. I can probably count on one hand the number of 50+ episode animes I've watched all the way through, and I can't think of a one offhand that I would recommend personally. I've tried to get into some popular animes like Inuyasha and Naruto a few times and failed. Maybe some stuff that would appeal to younger viewers like Cardcaptor or Doraemon would make the cut, if that were the sort of thing the OP was after. Hmmm, that said.... The Aincrad arc of SAO was good, though I've lost interest since Alfheim, and stopped watching entirely after GGO. I guess I did also like (most of) Full Metal Alchemist. I watched all of Familiar of Zero. I'm not sure I could honestly say there were more than 50 episodes that were worth the viewing time, but the story was long and did eventually achieve decent closure. I'll also watch stuff like Ojarumaru or Sazae-san (mainly for the social commentary) if I find myself pointed at a TV that's showing it. I don't seek that/those last out though. I can think of a few others that are pretty close but don't make it to the 50+ ep count. Clannad is 40+ eps if you include both seasons. Shakugan no Shana I/II (only) likewise. Cross Game should get a mention, along with Kemono no Souja Erin. The nise/bake/etc monogatari collection would probably make the cut. Eureka Seven maybe? Likely others if I thought about it for a while.
  5. UTC 2020-01-01 00:00:01 .. year rollover bug caused all our interfaces that connect our NOC to external users to core dump and refuse to restart. So far I'm not a fan of the new decade.

Thought that all ended with Y2k. And the house I’m in now doesn’t even have a basement, let alone a doomsday bunker.

  6. Great, now they're saying we're going to get more snow & ice.  Even in the desert!  Not natural I say.

  7. Reading mangos.. sounds like a tasty divination. ( )
  8. AT&T FINALLY has fiber in my neighborhood so next weekend we're upgrading our 'net connection from ~10Mb DSL ("up to 27Mb") to 300Mb fiber.  At the risk of jinxing it, I'm looking forward to the ~10x speed bump!

  9. I know how that goes. My mother and sister-in-law always get into it over something. This year went well however, all things considered. Bit of a hissy-fit between the two last week but by Christmas day they were behaving themselves. I have/had the week off from work, and everybody was relatively healthy. I'm calling it a win. btw.. it has been cold, overcast, and rainy (and windy!) here, but today the clouds lifted and I saw some snow on the hills behind our house. Looks like we almost had a white Christmas! Just a few hundred feet lower and...
  10. Sorry, closest I ever came was skateboarding. (Back when it was a skate attached to a board.) The area where I live is pretty hilly too, which makes things like skateboards that you can easily take off or dismount and carry uphill a better option. That was long ago too. These days I don't dare go near things like that!
  11. I get this a lot.  That's exactly my kind of weird!  🤣 🤣

  12. Hi Rin! Welcome! Crunchy's forums are boring, and often not very well moderated. They have a lot of anime, but I don't visit their forums much.
  13. I forgot the chests changed in Minecraft for xmas. Merry Christmas!

You're not wrong <3 I just love coffee so much. >just so long as it's super, super sweet<

tbh I actually I prefer tea.  I've gone back and forth over the years.. sometimes drinking almost exclusively tea.  I tend to like the smell of coffee more than the taste.  Lately though I have been addicted to coffee.  Maybe it is the season.

re: sweet... I often put sugar in my coffee too.  But I don't stir it to mix it well, just slosh it around a little so there's coffee syrup at the bottom and normal coffee at the top.  For some reason I like the bitterness to start, but there's that yummy super sweet mouthful at the bottom to finish it off.

  15. I had to look this one up. In so doing I found out that I'd already added it to my crunchy queue a while back. I apparently even watched about 9 episodes before I dropped it (or at least wandered away & forgot it). Unfortunately even after jogging my memory thus, I still don't recall anything about the show. I guess that says it all. But now I can't leave it unfinished like that, and since I don't remember it I'll probably wind up re-watching it from the beginning. I'm weird like that.
  16. In my day you typically got 3 lives for a quarter (USD), and when you died extra lives cost another quarter. (This was early '80s money too, so it was worth something. Bread was ~50 cents a loaf, gas was about $1/gal., etc.) You became good at the game, or you went home broke. I find most games these days way too easy. On topic... I do find games that take a long time hard to finish, especially if they take a long time to get into in the first place. I usually don't have a lot of contiguous time to play games these days. If it takes a long time to get back into the flow then I don't tend to make much progress, and often I wind up dropping these sorts of games. I don't know how many times I've loaded up an old save from a couple years ago and didn't have enough time to even figure out what I was doing before I had to give up again and go to bed/work/etc.
  17. No time to play lately, but I just added KSP2 to my steam wishlist... https://store.steampowered.com/app/954850/Kerbal_Space_Program_2/
  18. And now my air compressor breaks.  Got a tire pressure light in my car on the way home.  When I got there and went to put/check air in my tires, the tank split as I was putting pressure in the tank to do the deed.  The compressor bit is probably ok, but the whole thing is a cobbled-together mashup... an old motorcycle engine, an electric motor, a couple pulleys & a belt, some bits of copper tubing, a pressure sensor and an old pressure tank.  Probably way past time for a whole new rig but .. it had to fail THIS week?  Really?

Gotta be Karma from last year when I went around bragging that I had all my xmas shopping done by the end of November.  :D

(Note wet cement.. from a pinhole leak right at the base of the tank.  Looks like there was some moisture in the tank and it rusted enough inside to fail when pressurized.)

  19. That covers a lot of ground. For hatsukoi, maybe something like Bokura ga Ita, Sukitte Ii na yo, or Tsuki ga Kirei? For a bit more drama there's Ao Haru Ride, Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji, Itazura na Kiss, or Clannad (mainly After Story). For a bit of comedy there's stuff like Toradora or Lovely Complex.
  20. Started Dr. Stone. Going to run thru the first season, then wait. I was going to wait for the end like I usually do but I couldn't resist the lure of an anime with a tech tree.
  21. Today is xmas shopping.  Especially for my brother and his family in WIsconsin I need to get something shipped today or tomorrow!

Yes.  The vertigo is mostly gone, though I can still do things to trigger it if I want a few seconds of merry-go-round.  Fortunately those things are easily avoided.  :)
