      That's awesome!

  3. Pancakes and donuts are my favorite food groups.
  4. just catching up on what's new in the latest version of minecraft v1.14..
  5. Introduce yourself politely, explain your circumstances, and state your goals. Very good communication skills you have there. I'm sure Íñigo Montoya would approve of your style.
  6. The other problem with FPS is they're not good any time you have to be able to deal with an intrusive real world at a moment's notice. Especially the online, multiplayer games I have to block out time to play them because I know I won't be able to deal well with interruptions while I'm playing. RPGs or single-player stuff where you can hit the pause button any time you like are much more compatible with RL in that respect. RPGs are getting better at providing multiple playthrough paths and better replay value, true. I don't think they'll ever get as much replay as a good multiplayer FPS though. Of the RPGs I've seen, even the best ones only have maybe half a dozen really unique playthrough paths. With a sandbox game like minecraft half the fun is doing your own thing. Add multiplayer and the social aspect and that effect just gets multiplied.
  7. I've played both types a bunch, both separately and combined. I guess the first was probably Wizardry and Akalabeth on the Apple ][. Akalabeth was mostly like Ultima, but it had an extremely lame (by today's standards) wire-frame gfx underground so there was a 3d/first-person element. Ultima itself. There was the original Dungeon Master on the Amiga, I played the heck out of that. The stereo sound was actually used to great effect to place the monsters spatially when you couldn't see them. Playing it with headphones late at night was pretty immersive, and guaranteed a jump-scare or two. I've played things like the original Final Fantasy or Harvest Moon on the gameboy, and Golden Sun on the gba. Doom on several platforms. Quake. Etc. Etc. Non-FPS RPGs (Golden Sun, etc.) are good the first time through, but replay value is generally low. I tend to prefer the 3D/FPS games, but lately there seems to be a definite trend towards battle royal or arena style game play in the multiplayer versions and I'm not a big fan of that. Playing alone is fine for the first playthrough, but after that it gets boring like non-FPS, single-player RPGs. Playing with other players gives it more replay value, but I'm not into the shoot-or-be-shot PvP thing. Not that I mind a bit of PvP, but I'm more into the PvE & co-op play of things like Minecraft. I've been playing that since Mojang/Notch, and I still play it a lot even today. I guess that's my final answer.
  8. Remember the robotic hounds in Fahrenheit 451?  If not, go read the book.  Preferably before the Firemen come.

  9. Jeez.. you people have been busy!  I come back after a week and there's about a hundred* pages of new posts!

(*not really... maybe only like 80 or so. :) )

Yeah, post count does seem to up.

Sadly, not much high-level conversation, but the humorous conversations/exchanges are still fun.

  10. Just added Houkago no Pleiades to my queue at someone's recommendation based on my liking of Rocket Girls.  Looks "softer" (in SF terms) than I'd like, but we'll see.

Definitely too soft for my tastes.  Not bad, exactly, but much more mahou-shoujo when what I was after was science fiction.

  11. Pastel Memories I know I've forgotten many a good anime over the years, only to rediscover it and think, "how could I have forgotten THAT?". Each episode is basically a spoof of some other anime so it seemed like it had potential for a fun revisit of some interesting anime as well as a thoughtful message. Unfortunately it falls far short on both counts. Also Crunchy is inexplicably missing episode 2. Something to do with licensing no doubt. I watched it elsewhere. I needn't have bothered. Probably a drop.
  12. If you plan to live and work in Japan then I'd say you most definitely DO have a reason for learning to read (and write) Japanese!
  13. Today it is Minecraft. Farming turtles for scutes. Babies!
  14. I tried Fortnight a bit when it first came out. The most popular battle royal mode seemed a bit too.. frantic(?) for my tastes. Slightly better than a straight-up arena-type game, but I like my games a bit more chill. I'd probably be more compatible with the co-op creative mode but finding players for that has been difficult. My linux platform isn't supported anyway so if I'm in that sort of mood I'll likely just go back to my tried-and-true Minecraft.
  15. That's me. The closest I can possibly park at work is 2 blocks away. Usually I'm late and have to park even further away, in the lot on "Cardiac Hill". And yes, that's as bad as it sounds.
  16. This reminded me of Robert Redford as Jeremiah Johnson , “Skin that one pilgrim and I’ll get you another one” Carry on....
  17. Apologies in advance for any topic abuse but I thought Chika fans might appreciate seeing this one. If there's such a thing as a more appropriate place for this then feel free to move it...
  18. Is that even food? Looks like a dissection tray from this angle. <blech>
  19. Ever since last week when I searched youtube for Beat Saber clips YT has been "suggesting" more, and dang if I'm not clicking on them.

We would have enough time if we had immortality and eternal youth though. 🤣

Sadly, we have not found the key to either.
