  1. Finished The Dangers in My Heart . The first episode was kinda offputting, but thereafter the MC’s chuuni edgelord mannerisms get dialed back considerably to where he’s more awkward than anything & it winds up being a rather cute & funny romcom. A little less than halfway through Heavenly Delusion. Pretty strange series with things switching back & forth between 2 separate but connected settings & cast of characters. Got to admit the twist at the end of episode 2 caught me by surprise. Saw Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind at the movies/cinema this afternoon. Some newer anime fans might find the character designs & animation dated, but very nostalgic for me very similar to the period when I first discovered & became fascinated with anime. One of my favorite Ghibli films & heroines.
  2. I’m generally not a fan of the shounen genre. Of the “Big Three”, the only one I had any fondness for was One Piece & I still burned out on it after about 150 episodes. There are some popular titles I still enjoy (My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen) but it would be rare for me rate a shounen title as a 10 (does Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood count?) Some of the ones I really enjoyed that don’t get mentioned as often are Soul Eater, Buso Renkin and Ushio & Tora. I think probably the biggest trait of shounen that ruins things for me is that they tend to drag on too long.
  3. Lunch (or is it supposed to be Launch?) from Dragon Ball Escanor from Seven Deadly Sins Wolfgang Grimmer from Monster Hotaru Tomoe/Sailor Saturn from Sailor Moon Himari Takakura from Penguin Drum
  4. Finished Insomniacs After School. It wound up being a really sweet love story between two highschoolers struggling with personal baggage that keeps them up at night, finding solace in the night sky & each other. At times it felt like something tragic was being foreshadowed but it ended without ever being confirmed or denied. And I’m fine with that. My Love Story With Yamada-kun at Level 999. I actually had a fairly high opinion of this series for much of the season, but sadly it fizzled out in the last third or so. In the end, I just couldn’t feel any romantic chemistry between the two leads. I can definitely see them as more than just gaming buddies, definitely IRL friends & even confidants, but not as a romantic couple. This is a real problem considering that the final group of episodes really focused on trying to sell that idea, to the point that it made the series less enjoyable overall. I still found it worth watching & found the various character interactions funny & entertaining, also a good art style & like the OP. But disappointing that it couldn’t make the love story engaging in the end. Going to give The Dangers in My Heart another chance largely due to the fact that it remained one of the season’s higher rated series. I generally don’t let popular opinion have too much of an influence, but since my initial reaction was one & done, it probably deserves at least a bit more consideration.
  5. “Crazy to think that somebody found & connected different constellations out of this mass of stars. Were people from the past just really bored? Guess they were the same as us, huh? You know, I bet that the people who created the constellations also couldn’t get a wink of sleep and just stared up at the stars every night.” - Isaki Magari, Insomniacs After School
  6. Watched a couple “Special Episodes” that serve as prequels for upcoming series & seasons respectively Fate Strange Fake sets the stage for an upcoming full series, though the debut date is unknown. While I’m skeptical it will supplant Fate Zero as my favorite/most epic entry in the franchise, it seems to offer more potential to do so than the other entries I’ve seen. I would recommend watching Absolute Demonic Front Babylonia or at least being familiar with that chapter of the FGO online game as it offers additional insight into a very personal rivalry between two of the characters. Mushoku Tensei: Agent Fitz the main characters (or even Roxie) don’t appear at all in the episode, but it does address the unanswered question of what happened to Sylphie in the aftermath of the Mana Disaster. Being Mushoku Tensei, there has to be a certain level of lewdness. But I actually felt like season 2 can start in earnest next week with this one plot point finally given some development. Ryza no Atelier watched the double length premiere episode. I’ve seen some complaints online of it being boring, but I personally I found it charming & refreshing. Too many fantasy adventure series have young and inexperienced protagonists becoming heroes with the fate of the world on their shoulders right from the start. And the recent trends of MC’s who are OP and/or have unique knowledge from a previous life just makes it worse. So I found it refreshing to have them actually portrayed as sheltered adolescents from a village with isolationist traditions who simply want to go places they’ve never been & see things they’ve never seen before. And struggling even against the weakest enemies. And there’s already hints that the “boring” village they’ve spent their lives in may have secrets they never imagined. I actually hope it doesn’t rush their growth too much. Only complaint is that the camera does seem to focus too much on the female lead’s thighs.

  8. Welcome Hope you find things to interest you here & decide to stick around. As far as favorites, I have some listed in my signature & on my profile page here. Or you can also check out my MAL profile (link in my signature). Favorite genres are fantasy & supernatural.
  9. Just saw an article about the wrestler Sting needing stitches after diving off a ladder onto a guy laying on a table. Can’t believe the guy is still doing this sh*t at age 64. Of course I still remember when he looked like Billy Idol instead of Brandon Lee.

  10. I just finished season 1. While I still feel like it’s been overhyped, no denying it’s been one of the best series this year & am already looking forward to season 2 which has been confirmed (probably next year). Sorry Akane, but I’m definitely on team Kana (Arima) I’m planning to start that one soon myself. I watched the first couple episodes of My Home Hero . Definitely an interesting idea behind it, but not very well written/executed to this point. Will have give it a couple more eps but not sure if I will finish it.
  11. Just finished the Takagi-san movie. A bit cutesier than the tv series usually is as the story largely centers on Nishikata & Takagi looking after a stray kitten. And then there’s the after credit scene Think I may have diabetes now
  12. Would be helpful to know what type of anime you enjoy and if by “new” you mean recent. Based on Naruto & DBZ on your profile and series that started or getting a new season this year: Hell’s Paradise• Demon Slayer • Jujutsu Kaisen. A couple older shonen you may not have seen: Ushio & Tora • Buso Renkin. Again, more detailed info would result in better suggestions.
  13. Responding to your request for recommendations here since they won’t be summer 2023 series. The heavy hitters would be Overlord or Re:Zero, but both have multiple seasons & are pretty well known. For something shorter & more obscure: The Far Away Paladin, Skeleton Knight in Another World & I’m Standing on a Million Lives. I’ve heard good things about Grimgar of Fantasy & Ash, but haven’t see it yet. If you’re willing to forgo the isekai requirement maybe Goblin Slayer or Alame Ga Kill. Hopefully you’ll find something that works for you.

Vinland & Kamuy pretty much for sure. Posiibly Heavenly Delusion & Demon Slayer. A lot depends on the final couple eps. And of course I have my own preferences & likes

@Ohayotaku watched and finished Skeleton Knight in Another World .I liked it. Thanks

  14. Tough call to make. The general consensus from it’s fandom was that part 1 of season 2 was disappointing. But I actually preferred it over season 1 & while not exactly hyped, am curious to see what happens with some of the unresolved sub-plots. While it is a (reverse) isekai with some fights, it also has quite a bit of slice of life & comedy aspects as well. The series I’m most hyped for are 2nd seasons of Jujutsu Kaisen & Mushoku Tensei & the Ruroni Kenshin remake (never actually watched the original, but have heard positive things). I still have some leftover series to binge over the next couple weeks though, namely Golden Kamuy 4, Heavenly Delusion & Summertime Rendering.
  15. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts hesitant to actually call it “good”, but enjoyed it more than any of the previous live action films in the franchise. So … yeah
  16. Welcome Hope you find things to interest you here & decide to stick around.
  17. Favorite male character: Saichi Sugimoto from Golden Kamuy Dude’s a total badass But is actually very caring with a strong moral code & sense of loyalty But still capable of being a huge dork
  18. Favorite female character: Rin Shima from Yuru Camp Because she’s a true introvert character, not one that falls into the usual tropes of freaking out around other people or being desperate to be popular, make 100 friends, etc. While she starts out as somewhat of a loner by choice, she learns to enjoy sharing what she loves to do with others But also still values quiet time alone Plus she can be both cool & adorable at the same time
  19. Welcome Hope you find things to interest you here & decide to stick around. As far as recommendations: Monster, ID Invaded, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, Vinland Saga, Fate Zero, 86 & Dororo.
  20. Welcome Hope you find things that interest you here & you decide to stick around. In addition to the titles I mentioned in your recommendation thread, you might want to check out Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.
  21. I’m curious if you’ve seen Vinland Saga’s 2nd season yet, I just finished it Monday myself. There’s been a number of people complain & say it was boring/disappointing, but anyone who paid attention to season 1 should’ve seen the direction the story was headed (the honor & glory of war/combat is a lie). While I did enjoy season 1 somewhat more, season 2 was still the best the thing this season & better than 90% of the anime I’ve watched over 40+ years. I hope they continue the adaption. I’d also recommend Dororo for an intense action series that also has a deeper story than most. Megalo Box & it’s sequel Nomad also recommended. Finally, I kinda want to recommend Golden Kamuy for an action adventure series that references actual historical events & cultures and has an intricate story & cast of characters (season 4 is just about to wrap up). The only caveat is you said elsewhere that you didn’t like a lot of jokes/gags. That is something the series is guilty of & the humor is frequently vulgar (like Jojo, though I’m not a fan of that franchise). Might be worth at least trying to see what you think.
