I think it's not real, but then again I wouldn't put it past Elon 😂
Would be curious about the costs of those seats

Not sure.  Neither SpaceX nor Space Adventures has said anything about price.  Definitely in the "if you have to ask you don't want to know" territory.  :)

I do know that Branson and Bezos are asking around 250k-300k USD for flights on their rockets.  SpaceX has a history of undercutting the competition, but I'd say that $250k for an orbital flight is probably an absolute minimum.  Bezos and Branson only go sub-orbital too.  Sub-orbital means technically into space, but without the horizontal speed to stay in orbit so a sub orbital flight only lasts a few minutes before they come back down.  It would be easy to charge a premium to be able to stay in space for a few orbits.  That would allow much longer (hours, or even days) to play, see the sunrises & sunsets, etc. before having to come back down.  That's likely the low limit.

SpaceX as a private company doesn't have to make public disclosures of their costs, but just the fuel alone would cost around $200k for a minimum-energy orbital launch.  The Dragon capsule seats 7, but the announcement said only 4 tourists at a time.  Even an at-cost flight would therefore be about $50k per passenger just for fuel.  Then you would have to add some amount for the cost of wear and tear on the rocket.  (Yeah they're reusable, but even airline jet engines need an overhaul every few thousand flight-hours.  Those are not cheap, and I'd imagine rockets would be even more expensive and more frequent.)  There's regulatory and infrastructure (launch pad, etc.) costs as well.

Satellite customers are currently charged between $35M and $60M for a rocket ride on a Falcon 9 by SpaceX.  Space Adventures got Dennis Tito an 8-day stay at the space station (via soyuz) for about $20M if I recall correctly.  If I were to venture a guesstimate I'd say an orbital flight on a Dragon would cost *at least* several $million per ticket.

  1. Saw that e-mail but was too lazy to read it First thing I thought when I read what you said was exactly this. I can't see people not simply downloading, keeping it and getting a refund anyway. I mean, I think it's 'great' for people with little money to technically 'legally' get games, effectively without spending money, but generally I think it lends itself a bit too much to massive refunds.
  2. Interesting story and interesting topic! Although I have heard similar things from others as well as you describe about Neon Genesis Evangelion, I do not know why, but it didn't have as much of an impact on me as on many others. I still think the symbolism of the show is uniquely interesting in quite a few ways and it captures inner mental turmoil in an intriguing way, but it did not resonate as much with me personally. This might be because I only got to watch it a year ago, i.e. after I have had my fair share of experience when it comes to psychology and especially philosophy, and am already old The question is quite difficult though. I can't say that an anime has had a sudden/discrete impact on me compared to unexpected events such as the death of a friend. But at the same time, I think there are many anime that have had an effect over time. Something that got me to think about something in a different way which later led to more substantive changes. This does happen quite a bit since I tend to over-analyze anime or at least see this as an example to a more general philosophical question which on the face of it is not related to it. To give you an example. I watched a part of Attack on Titan (I didn't continue it since it was too much gore for my taste). When I saw the whole Titans eating humans thing, I did start to think about vegetarianism and cannibalism. Now, vegetarianism is something I had thought about before quite a bit because of a colleague who has worked on it, but cannibalism not so much. So when I now think about cannibalism (which granted does not happen too often unless I think/read about lab-grown meat), Attack on Titan might be one example for it. Apart from that I would say that all of my favorite anime resonate with me in one way or another and have influenced the way I see or think about things for years.
  3. friends to play with a great, but even greater are fiends Seriously though, @Wedgy might remember you since she is the unofficial Anime Forums historian Great to see that you have an active friend group though!
  4. Not sure it fits what you are looking for but maybe Shaman King or School Rumble? You might also want to pick 5 of those and try @Ryan Dave Jimenez' automatic suggestion at https://animegauge.com/anime-suggestions/
  5. The thing about this episode was that to me it kinda seemed a bit dragged out. I would have wanted to see more about the training with Allmight and less about the festival planning. The festival itself seems interesting but why did they show the organizational stuff so long I suppose it's part of showing the characters off more
  6. @RZ. I have played/tried Fortnite for about an hour. I found it to be a rather run-of-the-mill shooter generally, i.e. I get the general appeal of it. I don't get all the dislike for it. Yeah, it's not a particularly great game but I don't think it aims at the same stuff as Battlefield or Call of Duty. What kinda bugged me, but I suppose that depends on what you are used to, was that you could build structures everywhere you wanted. Kinda defeated most of the whole strategic planning.
  7. Quite a difficult topic (both psychologically and ethically), especially if people are very close to each other. If you care for someone and you see what you interpret to be suffering or making a mistake, it can be quite difficult to not give what you think is apt advice or intervene. Parents are a prime example of course. On the other hand, if the one receiving the advice interprets that things are getting worse rather than improving and attribute it to the bad advice or the person who gave it, it can feel like trusting that person was a mistake. Quite difficult. Personally it seems to me that it might be helpful for both to step back from the whole situation together and try and see what happened from a more neutral perspective. If both share a common goal and want to work together, I think a lot can be solved. What I think is a bit simpler though is that I would not say that just because someone is older, their take on something is worth more than someone who is younger. I would say that if you yourself are less experienced in the matter than someone else, it might not be a bad idea to give what the other has to say some serious thought. That being said, it does not mean that you are wrong even if what you say diverges from what the more experienced person said. But people who are way more experienced often do seem to be relatively closed to new ideas. That is something I constantly experience in my work when what I say goes against someone who has been working on the topic for 30 years. We should open a psychoanalysis thread or something
  8. Similar in my case. When I was still at university as a student people asked me for my snapchat, whatsapp, instagram or whatever. When I told them that I don't use those, because I don't have a phone (yes I am aware that you can you instagram on your computer as well ), they were really surprised on how to send me stuff. Obvious answer, e-mail I don't get why the simple e-mail communication is so disliked, especially since you can also just reply on your phone and with various apps for e-mails it's not that different from the other apps. I guess it's more inconvenient, but not sure it is more inefficient. Anyway, life without those is possible
  9. technically I wouldn't really mind. main thing is that for some people I know who don't know much about technology stuff like facebook is the only way to send them stuff like photos. if my aunt who doesn't really know anything about technology wants a photo of something, the only way might be through facebook. That's also one of the only reasons I use social media. I never got how and why people would get their news for example from stuff like facebook or twitter, but on the other hand I have never really tried it either. As for instagram, snapchat, tik tok etc. I have never used them. I think I am just too old so that almost no one I know uses it But I can see why younger people would enjoy it
  10. @Michiko_73 If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!
  11. @Michiko_73 you'll be able to change it when you are active here often, if you want to!
  12. you can also @spätixD someone by typing @ and then the first few letters and then you can select them. Although we are quite international here, I don't think there is another German here, but a few people here speak German. Anyway, let us know what you think of different anime in the threads! We have one that is rather active about My Hero Academia if you're interested, but there are also others
  13. Anyone else here still watching Somali and the Forest Spirit? I still think it's not the goat, but I do find it enjoyable
  14. Hi there! Great to see another anime fan here! Yeah the Kite thing in Hunter x Hunter would be quite difficult to explain to someone who hasn't watched the show Just wondering, since you use ä in your name, I assume you speak German then?
  15. Hi there! Your username says 73 though There are a couple of people that are around that age here, although many others like me are half dust already but it's always great to have more young people around!
  16. this is going to sound insane, but it is mostly true. cornflakes for as long as I can remember (i.e. close to three decades now). There have been times when I had something else, but I'd say well above 90% of the time I eat cornflakes for breakfast (told you guys I eat the most generic of foods). It mainly started as a kid thing, then I kept it since it was a huge time saver. I do hope that I will have some more time when I get a new job and vary it on occasion, otherwise I am half-seriously thinking I might get scurvy
  17. @Shejoestar Only thing that comes to mind about yong boy, eyeballs and destruction would be https://myanimelist.net/anime/1469/Monster_Farm__Enbanseki_no_Himitsu but the eyeballs aren't his parents
  18. Definitely the first one! Imagine eating a baby by mistake Pie-flavored poop or poop-flavored pie?
  19. Hi there! I like your pfp, where is it from?
  20. @RZ. You could open a thread in the writing section https://animeforums.net/forum/106-writing/ Or start your own blog on this forum https://animeforums.net/blogs/
  21. Personally I would have no use for it, as there is enough buttons already and it makes the controller more clunky, but I can see it being useful for some. As for the gaming censoring debate, I think the whole nudity things seems to be much more of a thing in the US than in Europe. That's not to say that you can see r-rated stuff on a kid's show here, but usually there isn't much of an uproar here if there are exposed breasts or the likes on prime time TV. If you have a look at some of the European productions they can be full of stuff like that. Only reason I can think of might be because the religious influence is stronger in the US compared to Europe, but that's just a guess. Personally I do not really need to see either violence or nudity if it is misplaced. If you are making a war movie, then I would expect some violence of course, but if you put some explosions into a movie with an otherwise unrelated topic, I don't see the point of it. As for censoring so that it fits any social agenda, my point is simply that it depends on what you portray in what way. I would not have anything against a movie with a racist character who wants to kill all blacks/whites/chinese/jews/immigrants etc. so long as it is not some kind of propaganda where the whole point of the movie is to show that this is what is needed to 'cleanse the world' or anything insane like that. In the same vein I wouldn't want a movie celebrating child rapists for their deeds etc, but this does not mean that I would be against putting a character like that into a movie (given that people like this exist) for example as a criminal.
