Not sure if anyone is into Yu-Gi-Oh merch here but a co-worker who knows I'm interested in anime sent me a link to some themed silver "coins".  (This is the same guy that sold me the silver coin a few weeks ago.  I think he's trying to turn me into a "stacker".)  Anyway, I'm probably not going to go for these but if you're into Yu-Gi-Oh they might actually be a better investment than your average anime merch since each "coin" contains 1 oz of actual silver.  There's 7 of them all together.  This one is Zuzu.  The others are Akiza, Luna, Allie, Rio, Anna Kaboom, Alexis, and (of course) Kuriboh.  Official Konami-licensed collectable.

They're out there.  I have seen other such items sponsored by various franchises too.  I once saw a gold "coin" with "Baby Yoda" on it for example.  Obviously a licensed product from the Star Wars franchise.  Also stuff from LotRDune,  Harry Potter, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, etc.

Check out places like Pieces of 8, or the Australian mint also seems quite ready to make collectable sets based on anything.  I know the Aussies make a kind of cool collection of items with designs based on the Chinese lunar calendar.  Every year they come up with a new design for whatever animal it is the year of and produce a limited run in both silver and gold.  I think they're in their second or third calendar cycle at this point so if you like to collect sets of expensive things there's a lot to work with there.

I like to look but I don't get into purchasing those kinds of collectables myself.  Spot prices of precious metals being what they are - somewhere around $3,600 per ounce of gold and maybe $35/oz silver last I checked - that gets expensive fast.  And then if there's a franchise / license fee on top of that...  😱  It's bad enough when it's just a Baby Yoda plushie.  Swap in precious metals as the material and...💰💰💰   Definitely the sort of thing only rich people can afford, and I'm still working hard on making my first $million.  :D

That's really cool tbh ~ I'd prob like something like that if it was Chazz Princeton since he's my fave, possibly Jaden, but I haven't really gotten much into coin collecting minus the quarter thing I'd mentioned before from when I was a kid. It's neat to see that stuffs though ~

Sorry, I don't know of any Chazz coins.  :)  At least not the silver type.  I have seen the duelist-type coins however.  Jaden especially seems pretty common on ebay.  Lots and lots of cards / packs there as well of course.  People collect and trade Yu-Gi-Oh cards like baseball cards.  I'd be a bit surprised if there weren't also a few Chazz in there somewhere.

I don't think I posted these before.. but the SAO acrylics were from my dad, the throw pillowcases were a gift from Pessi and the posters were from my dad. There's 6 acrylic stands, 2 posters (which have now been framed but I need to decorate them), and 2 throw pillowcases.

And I meant to post these before but totally forgot. I said I would post the Vocaloids shelf @Colu @Soramee_ so here's the Vocaloid shelf. I recently added some more stuff to it and the last pic is the newest stands I have which are actually on my desk and were a gift from my sis. There isn't a ton of stuff but it's slowly been expanding.

I decided that 2015 "silver dollar" that I posted before was a bit boring so I swapped it for a real 1887 Morgan dollar.  The 2015 coin had a full ounce of silver in it while Morgans only have .77oz silver so strictly in terms of metal content I traded down.  However, Morgans were what was actually in circulation as currency in 1887.  In 1887 Gustave Eiffel was just starting to build his tower over in France, patents for celluloid photographic film and elevators were filed, and the 1st transcontinental train arrived in Vancouver, British Columbia.  1887 was right in the middle of the period of westward expansion and colonization of the American "frontier".  The US Civil War was a couple decades in the past while the first World War was still several decades in the future.  Wikipedia says, "This period includes historical events synonymous with the archetypical Old West or "Wild West" such as violent conflict arising from encroaching settlement into frontier land, the removal and assimilation of natives, consolidation of property to large corporations and government, vigilantism, and the attempted enforcement of laws upon outlaws."  People like 'Doc' Holiday and Wyatt Earp most certainly carried coins just like this in their pockets, and won and lost them in poker games in places like Tombstone, AZ.

I think I got the better deal out of this trade.  This one is much more interesting.  :)

Morgan dollars were very popular when the US was on a silver standard.  They stopped minting them in 1904 however so they're not very well known in modern times.

Actually, that's not quite true.  There apparently was a short production run of Morgan dollars done in 1921 as a commemorative sort of thing.  Then on the centennial anniversary of that in 2021 the US mint started making Morgans again.  You can even buy a 2025 Morgan design silver dollar from the US mint.  The thing is their face value is still only "one dollar", even though the mint is selling them for $91 and the silver in them is worth about $28.  As a result nobody uses them like a regular dollar coin to buy groceries.  If you have one you either hold onto it or sell it for its silver value.

This also applies to most of the other silver (and gold) coins that were historically used in circulation as money.  The silver in a silver quarter from 1964 is now worth about $6 for example.  There are so many of these types of coins still around that unless they're in perfect shape or have some sort of unique quality such as a production blemish that makes them special they don't really have much in the way of collectable or numismatic value.  They are sometimes even called "junk" silver.  This applies to most of the older Morgan coins like the one that I just got, as well as pre-1964 dimes, quarters, half dollars, and dollars that were 90% silver.  They're all bought and sold primarily for the silver content and not seen in general circulation.

I got something called a "goldback" the other day.  They're basically a thin sheet of gold foil laminated in plastic.  Apparently some US states have taken it upon themselves to produce these as a way to collect physical gold and as a proposed alternative to paper money.  The front has a holographic background with an image overlaying it.  There are a bunch of different images depicted on them depending on denomination and which state produced them.

The different denominations indicate how much gold is contained therein.  A "1" has 1/1000 troy ounce of gold.  One ounce of gold is currently about $3300 so that would make a "1" worth about about $3.30.  At the top end is a "100" with 1/10th ounce, or around $330 worth.  This one is a "1/2", meaning it contains 1/2000th of an ounce of gold.  Currently that makes it worth less than $2.  :D

I got this with the Morgan silver dollar that I posted about previously.  Since I was trading down as far as metal content the guy I was trading with threw it in as a bonus or make-up item.  (I would have posted it with the Morgan the other day but I left it at work & didn't have any pics at the time.)

An interesting item it's also an interesting proposal to use those as an alternative to paper money, sort of going back to the days when currency was actually worth something and not just a pretty piece of paper or base metal.

The other interesting thing about them is you can supposedly trade them for an equivalent amount of actual gold coins.  10 of the "100" denomination will get you a 1oz coin for example.  This isn't via a federal bank of course, at least not at the moment.  However, the Basil III rules are scheduled to go into effect over here in the US this month.  The new rules make gold a "tier 1" asset with regards to international banking settlements.. right up there with the US dollar.  So essentially gold will be money again.  Not far at all from there to putting the US back on a gold standard.

That looks really awesome tbh 😮 I definitely haven't seen one of these.

I actually learned something interesting the other day about a coin I'd never heard of. 1933 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle gold coin ~ which is apparently the rarest coin in the world, illegal to own and there is only 1. The 1 is legal to be owned though and I think it last sold for like 19 million dollars or something @.@
