Some people these days don't even own a computer, they do everything, Facebook, forums, e-mail, on-line shopping and banking etc etc all on their phones, and I'm amazed that they can do all that on such a small device. I have a phone, but it's normally switched off and I hardly ever use it. I find that that little on-screen keyboard too fiddly to use accurately and the screen too small to small to read clearly, and it's not a particularly small phone.

There isn't a lot of activity around here so I think we should just be glad that people are trying to even interact on here as a lot of people don't use forums anymore and most have gone to things such as Discord or other chat platforms. I have posted from both mobile and a computer depending on where I am. Sometimes I post from mobile when I am out and bored and just checking on forums but it doesn't hinder what I post or how much I post.

I remember about 16 years ago a prominent member of an old and long-gone forum I used to frequent made the prediction that soon in-depth articles would fade away or cease to exist completely, and in so many cases he wasn't far off.

Because of the ability to skim through things so quickly on a smartphone we value quantity over quality. The average person would rather flip through 100 clips at 10 seconds a piece instead of sit through a single 30 minute video a day where you may learn a lot about any given topic. Short tweets or Facebook messages. A picture and a description on Instagram. Heck, even dating has been boiled down to a vague personal profile and swipes.

Clayton has a point, the single biggest draw to the average forum is engaging discussion and the thought out sharing of opinions. The problem is that the ideal probably won't become the reality.

I agree there isn't a lot of discussion anywhere on forums anymore because like @Zeref said most people don't use forums and use things like Discord for discussion but I also agree that I don't think using a mobile phone has anything to do with how much you do or do not type. When messaging @Forlorn sometimes I type for over 45 minutes some 15-20 paragraphs depending on how much we are talking and what about, and I have done that from a mobile phone. Most of the time when on things like Discord I'm also on a phone and again I type paragraphs and paragraphs lol

I'm not the type of person who uses social media like Insta/Twitter/TikTok though for conversations and mostly just go to DeviantArt forums, this forum, and Discord for talking to people or with friends. There really isn't that many people that even use this forum anymore though, I would say daily there is only 6-7 regulars that post every day so however anyone wants to post I think is fine. Like @Animedragon said I have friends that don't even regularly use a laptop/computer and just use their phones for everything because it's all they have.

For instance my dad doesn't own a computer in his house and only uses his phone + a magnifying glass attached to it to see it because of his vision being so poor he has a lot of difficulty with screens so I don't think someone should be forced to type from a computer when they literally can't due to a disability.  Also a lot of visually impaired people use text to speech and while I think there is something like that for the computer it's much easier to use on the phone and I have several visually impaired friends that only use their phone because of that issue.

I don't really see anyone here giving 1 word answers like "k" "lol" on here like they do on social media posts. (Unless it's in a forum game like count to the next number or something).

I don't have a cell phone and never have in my entire life, but I have been glued to computers for the majority of it. So, I can't really say a lot on the topic, but I do think it depends on the person posting more than the deice they're using as to how long their post would be. Not to mention how much they have to say and how far they're willing to elaborate their point. I find I end up elaborating a lot but that's because I can't convey what's on my mind in person to people very easily, so online communication for me is a way to bypass my social ineptitude. Maybe I compensate with a vocabulary I've accumulated over the years because I do so poorly in interactive or in person conversations, but I don't really know. In the end though, I really do think if people want to make a post long enough then they will regardless of the device they use to do it. These are busy days though for most people, too, and not a lot of people have a lot of free time to type that much. At least that's my take on the subject.

I think that part of the problem is that people these days have short attention spans, witness the growing popularity of the 'short form' videos that are filmed in portrait mode. So reading a forum post and taking the time to make a sensible and constructive reply is just too much effort for them.

It's a little thing called instant gratification.

Sadly, this is reality,  like it or not we live in the age of mobile internet now, and I admit it's way more convenient because you can bring it easily almost everywhere, although I typed this post using PC. And I hope you won't hate me for saying this, but It's really none of our business to mind how everyone posts or what gadgets. Like everyone else said here, it's even surprised that there are still people here that joins this community even though we live in age of social media where internet forums are dying. But I really am interested in talking to younger generations here if there are, so I could recommend them some real obscure old anime titles.

I agree phones are too damn small, i've always preferred PC to phones and even consoles too. PC's are more powerful.

I noticed it's pretty quiet here

I personally use a cellphone when doing things online quite often including getting on forums that I frequent.

I would agree with the statement @Zeref made regarding this. I don't use text talk to type on forums when I am using my cellphone and I don't post any less of my thoughts that I would have posted had I been using my PC. Much of my time involves sitting in a theater when I'm doing theater rehearsals and sometimes that can be incredibly boring so I browse my phone and post as a way to entertain myself and keep from falling asleep right there.

What I find to be annoying is when people use text speak or emojis on forums to post messages such as, "🚂💭🚫🧐😎🤏🕶😳" or other emoji only sentence or heavy in text abbreviations because I'm not an ancient Egyptian and I'm not trying to decipher your hieroglyphics.

I use both however I don't go on my computer a lot still due to some personal reasons sadly.  I gave my old computer laptop to my mother for her to use/keep. I was only using my phone for some time 5 yrs If I remember correctly then last year I finally got a computer laptop again.  I use my phone like I would my computer, though it can't do all what you want for a computer does on your phone a sacrifice I made. Now I'm going use my computer a little more or try too since I'm making a game with my bf. So far its going pretty well I'm happy and proud to say.
