A forum site is only as good as it's community is willling to let it grow by contributing to it be it by striking up an entertaining conversation, making engaging threads or simply making content that catches the eyes of visitors enough to decide to make an account and be part of this home of ours.

I doubt anyone is wondering about this, however this former member's goodbye message makes a very serious accusation towards me, and I don't like misinformation. So here's what they're referring to! "wants to redefine the meanings of words", they were questioning the existence of a "no LGBT-phobia" rule, I promptly explained it a few times, to no avail. "to suit their own agenda", dear human... is an agenda meant to protect individuals from harassment a program that shouldn't be endorsed? The conversation I had with this lad a few months ago is still intact, and should anyone request it, I'll happily distribute complete screenshots for you to see with your own eyes their suspicious and obnoxious terms. It's usually a shame to lose members like this, but frankly, I'm quite delighted that they did the job of sparing Anime Forums from themselves. It deserves better than members audaciously attacking rules that protect a core and innocent part of the community. PS: they were planning on a more dramatic departure? Shoot, I should've set off all the fireworks in celebration... but they're not worth it.

Saw the rocket trail from yesterdays F9/Starlink launch when I went to move my car. They’re doing a lot more Starlink launches from Vandenberg these days. Probably filling in the more polar orbit slots.

Got approved to have my final year thesis supervised by the geologist/earth science lecturer at my university! just gotta pick between two research topics that both sound incredible!

The question was posed by one of the younger crew at work today, "Why do they call it 'spam' anyway?". To which I of course replied, "well, you know that Monty Python sketch? That's where it comes from." To which he replied, "what's Monty Python?". Oi.. don't they teach kids anything in school these days?!

Both mine and my Mother’s birthday have passed. I’m all the more closer to 30 years old. My mom is getting older too.

Little life update: Was hit with my first ever dose of homesickness after being abroad on off for the last year and a half. Wasn't a great feeling to be honest, just missed everything about Ireland which I never thought I would say but sure here we are. I joined a GAA club to give myself a bit of purpose, bit of fun and pretty good to be playing something I played throughout my childhood/teen years. In other notes, struggling with exams and sorting out my timetable for next year, in Ireland I'm so used to not picking what I do and just being told by the university but here you pick your own modules and it's crazy. Anxiety has gotten incredibly bad as well, I find myself avoiding social activities and struggling to even go shopping because the thought of interacting makes me feel like I'll cry. So yep, rough start to the year.

Still employed. Know of a couple people who aren't. Still working through it all but one thing I'm sure of at this point is the US Congress is made up of self-centered, irresponsible idiots.

So, here's my comments and thoughts about the new series I watched in 2023. Insomniacs After School For me this is the best series of the year. An interesting and enjoyable series about a couple of high school students who both decide independently of each other to use their school's abandoned observatory to catch up on the sleep they can't get at night. This leads on to them restarting the school's astronomy club and going out at night to take photographs of the night sky with a lot of help from a former student. I liked the way the relationship between the two main characters developed, although this did mean that the focus shifted more towards their activities with the astronomy club but that I think was a good thing. The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten. In anime when a series has a title like that you're never quite sure what you're going to get! But in this case the "angel" is just an ordinary girl-next-door who has acquired the nick-name "Angel", which she hates, at school. The story is another Slice of Life romance, but the way the story unfolds with the growing friendship between the two main characters and their relationships with their families and friends along with the excellent artwork and animation are what really lifts this series above the rest. Kaina of the Great Snow Sea is a Sci-Fi series with an amazing and imaginative piece of world building. In a world where a small number of people live high up in the canopy of the great trees while the rest live on the surface on islands separated by a sea of snow and are at war with each other a girl from the surface and a boy from the canopy meet and embark on a mission to change the world. The series sort of stops short leaving the story hanging. However, the story continues in the movie which is impressive and action filled with a well paced story that provides a good ending to the series. BanG Dream! It's My Go. The latest release from BanG Dream, the huge multi-media franchise about high school girls forming bands and doing concerts. Earlier series featured friends getting together and overcoming difficulties and forming their bands. What sets "It's My Go" apart is that it centres on a group of girls who were members of a band that broke up when one of their members left. Some of them want to form a new band, others want to re-form their old band and others want nothing to do with bands any more. This leads to quite a bit of conflict between the girls which creates an interesting and engrossing storyline which to my mind lifts the series above the usual "girls form a band" series. What I liked about this series is that the interactions between the main characters is more at the centre of the story than the band, the band side of the story is still there, but much more in the background. The series also has what I think is the best song of 2023 "Haru Hikage" ("Spring Sunlight") the lyrics of which hit home on so many levels. The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses. The trailers for this series promised so much, but the series delivered so little! The titular girl who forgot her glasses was an interesting character, but sadly the guy who liked her was a wishy-washy non-entity who had no character development throughout the series. With a stronger male MC there could have been a much better interaction between the two main characters and been quite a decent and interesting series. 16bit Sensation Another Layer. This one had an intriguing storyline involving time travel, but it wasn't the usual time travel storyline as it had an interesting twist to it. I thought the story started well, but as it progressed more and more complexities were added and towards the end some those were unbelievable which I felt dragged the story down with the result that it tried to pull everything together in a rush in the final episode which resulted in something that had been presented as an important plot point being forgotten. I think that if the events of the final episode had been spread over two episodes the series would have had a much better ending. MF Ghost.This is a story about a half English half Japanese guy who arrives in Japan to find his family roots and take part in the MFG street race. As this is a motor-sport themed series the car racing takes up a large percentage of each episode, and it's certainly packed full of dramatic action race scenes. There is a story somewhere in there but it's rather left in the pit lane, hopefully it will become more prominent in series 2. Yes, there will be a series 2 it was announced at the end of the final episode, which ended on a cliffhanger. The only issue I have with the series is the amount of fan-service, the MFG Angels, grid girls, are clad in bikinis and I do wonder just how many close-up shots of their backsides are really needed. Shy. From what I'd seen in the trailers I wasn't expecting much from this series. With a main character who is nervous, introverted, lacking in confidence and seriously shy I thought that it didn't really have a lot going for it, but I was wrong. With the aid of her friends our shy heroine's character starts to develop into someone much more capable, although still not quite sure of herself but still able to rise to the occasion and do what is needed. In the series she's referred to as a "Hero", but I think she has all the requirements to be a "Magical Girl", she has a magic item with which to transform into her "Hero" outfit, she has a Special Attack and she even has a mascot creature. However, as the series progresses the visuals and storyline are more along the lines of Madoka Magica than Sailor Moon. Much to my surprise I quite enjoyed watching this series, which has quite decent artwork and animation quality and an intriguing storyline. The final episode ends with a cliffhanger and a second series is apparently coming. This post turned out to be a lot longer than I intended, and well done for making it to the end, but I wanted to say more about each series than just "I liked this" or "I didn't like this".

It's been either too windy, rainy or sunny so I took some pics indoors I love dressing her up so much that I ordered another body >w< so I'll be making another female OC of mine.

Yesterday was a heartbreaking day, seeing the news pop up on my phone of what occurred at the Faculty of Philosophy UK in Prague was shocking. What is crazy was I was about to go for a walk there but ended up having to take a phone call before I left the dorm. My heart goes out to all the families and victims of the attack.

Unfortunately due to the stressful joys of exams and just trying to find my feet in this country, I haven't been as active as I hoped. I'm hoping that with the new year and being more comfortable here I can contribute more!

Best compilation I've seen so far. Gotta say, after the pretty wild first test this one went much, much better. Not perfect of course, but that's fine at this point. Gives me hope they might someday actually get 'Ship working as intended. That would make the next couple decades so amazing! It was only 13 years between the Wright Flyer @ Kitty Hawk and the first commercial cargo (mail) delivery after all, and only ~30 until the Boeing 247, the first commercial airliner.

Hi surprise I'm not dead! A ton of stuff happened, death in the family + driving tests and college so I've been busy and not super active. I'm probably here for now though? Idk. I've also been writing a bunch of stories on my own and illustrating em with AI which has been super fun! I may try to share those eventually.

I have officially moved to the Czech Republic!!! Was a long day of travelling but wow is it beautiful. Staying with family atm until my student accommodation opens for international students!

Finally back in Ireland, was really an incredible journey and I cant wait to write a proper blog post about it all, unfortunately got a pretty bad sunburn all over my back so painfully suffering with that but heyo, only two weeks before I'm back on a plane to start another adventure!

100F temps lately means replacing the A/C air filter in the car gets top priority on today's todo list. Having to choose between breathing oven-temperature air or air that smells like moldy socks is not a choice one should have to make.

We're setting up for the annual open house at work. This weekend! Saw a Mars Sample Return vehicle mockup already unpacked as I was leaving & by the end of the week I'm sure they'll have models of all the rovers and a number of spacecraft set up as well. All part of the (somewhat) controlled chaos that is public outreach. Hope it isn't super hot this weekend. A few years back before the covid shutdown we had a weekend with over 40,000 visitors! Parking was a nightmare and the temperatures got up over 100F, provoking real health concerns since the JPL campus simply isn't set up to accommodate so many people. (Normal employee count is more like 6000. Even less now that a lot of them are still doing the work-from-home thing post-covid.) We had to start requiring tickets to limit the visitor count for safety reasons. Tickets are free but limited in number and tied to specific times to keep the visitor count at any one time from getting out of hand.

Just back from a weekend or so in London, was so nice being somewhere familiar but also meant I've come back to Prague with loads of work to do....
