  1. @Humbby I actually seem to have the opposite reaction. If I hear a lot of hype surrounding a series or I go into it with high expectations, I’ve noticed I tend to be less forgiving. One of the reasons I try not to read reviews until I’ve already started to form an opinion. @Muco I honestly didn’t think Black Clover was that bad. Even though I did drop it fairly early on, I actually think I might revisit it someday. The biggest obstacle is I tend to prefer series that just last a couple cours or at least give you a break in between to explore something different. Same reason I burned out on One Piece & Hunter x Hunter, but would like to get back into them someday.
  2. My favorites among the currently airing series: Demon Slayer, Fruits Basket (2019), The Ones Within, If it’s for my Daughter I’d Even Defeat a Demon Lord & Fire Force. For older series I’d prefer to know what kind of series you’re looking for. If you want general recommendations, see the favorites section of my profile.
  3. Silver haired Russian girl shows up & declares Sakura (Hibiki) to be her rival. Lots of stereotypical humor
  4. I’m personally more inclined to check out a series based on what fellow forum members have to say about it than any sort of “professional” review or MAL rating (usually not a good indicator of whether I’ll enjoy a series). Really though the only way to know for sure is to invest the time to check out at least a couple episodes myself. Though watching the trailer/promotional videos can give an early impression. As far as series that exceed my expectations, right now that would be Naka no Hito Genome (The Ones Within). I had zero expectations for that one & it doesn’t seem to be getting any professional attention, but it’s my favorite of the new series for this season. I also prefer the dubbed version, which is unusual for me.
  5. That was the direction I was hoping it would take as well, unfortunately the flirtatious manner of the new girl in episode 5 makes it feel like it’s going to turn into a harem. I may come back to it later, but gonna set it aside for now. If nothing else maybe try something on my PTW list.
  6. There’s a lot of very talented & creative artists, cosplayers & people making AMVs. But as far as being a fan wanting to discuss & share their opinions on anime ... isn’t that what everyone on this forum is doing?
  7. Not nearly as climactic a decision though But yeah, think it classified me pretty well
  8. Cowboy Bebop. Yeah the ending of course. But for me the truly tragic character is Faye (clip is an AMV don’t watch unless you’re ok with possible spoilers.
  9. Pretty sure the first murder happens fairly early in the series, but as a whole the series puts more emphasis on suspense than action. Monster does have chases, fist fights, shoot outs, prison breaks, etc. but it spends most of it’s time exploring psychological & ethical issues. If that sounds boring to you, it’s probably not what you’re looking for.
  10. I got Hufflepuff, but only by a single point (54). Second was Ravenclaw (53). Pretty much the results I was expecting from the descriptions.
  11. Up to episode 2 of season 2. Wow, didn’t take things long to get intense did it? Though I was a bit put off by how some scenes seemed to go straight from serious to silly
  12. I keep hoping we’ll get a complete physical release of Monster here in the US someday
  13. I’ll recommend Beautiful Bones which I consider to be a seriously under appreciated series https://myanimelist.net/anime/30187/Sakurako-san_no_Ashimoto_ni_wa_Shitai_ga_Umatteiru?q=Beautiful bones Edit: How could I have forgotten about Monster? <facepalms> https://myanimelist.net/anime/19/Monster?q=Monster
  14. Welcome to the forums RomComs & SoL? Some of my favorites would be Ai Yori Aoshi, ReLIFE, Recovery of an MMO Junkie, Bokuben, Monthly Girls Nozaki-kun, Yuru Camp, New Game, Azumanga Daioh & School Rumble. As far as currently airing shows there’s the afore mentioned Fruits Basket & Naka no Hito Genome (snarky comedy, strange goings on & psychological exploration similar to Haruhi Suzimiya, Angel Beats & Bunny Girl Senpai) Hope you enjoy it here.
  15. https://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2019/08/05/tv-anime-dr-stone-reveals-key-visual-and-new-characters-for-its-next-village-arc Looks like all those characters from the OP will be making their debut soon. Hopefully I’ll start enjoying the series more with a bigger cast.
  16. Just finished episode 5. Continue to be Impressed at how they usually manage to give each of the characters a moment in every episode. Though it felt like this challenge ended rather abruptly and with a lot of hanging questions. Also surprised in that I never I thought I would feel even a twinge of sympathy for Paka, but ... Anyway, hope some other folks decide to give this one a try.
  17. Season 4 of MHA is definitely my most anticipated series of the fall season.
  18. Sword Oratorio. I actually watched it recently but didn’t think it was as good as the main series. I think it’s cute/funny the way Hestia calls Ais Wahlenstein “Wala-whatsit” Edit: Guess I wasn’t the only that needed a refresher since their was an episode recapping season 1 (I still recommend watching season 1 in it’s entirety if you haven’t seen it). So, guess I feel prepared for season 2 now.
  19. Just finished the OVA episode which was just fanservice and comedy (very similar to the recent Reincarnated as a Slime one). That ED though
  20. I didn’t think season 1 was anything outstanding, but still an enjoyable non-isekai fantasy series (some harem aspects though). Definitely some cute moments between the MCs Season 2 seems to be getting pretty good reviews and since Isekai Cheat Magician and Cop Craft are kind of disappointing, thinking I may drop/put on hold and try this instead. I’m a bit worried I may gave forgotten some details or confused them with similar series, but hopefully it’ll come back to me when I resume.
  21. Was planning to binge season 2 once it was over, but a number of other series I started watching are proving disappointing, so I may go ahead and start it early
  22. I’d initially defended this series because it seemed like people on other forums/sites were bashing it for being an isekai without some ridiculous gimmick or fetish at it’s core which made it generic or boring in their opinion. I still don’t think it’s right for it to be rated lower than Arifureta which even the haters admit is ugly garbage. Still I have to admit it’s disappointing and increasingly becoming a chore to follow, so I can’t promise I’ll stay with it till the end of the season. As far as the direction I had hoped it would take, I’d hoped over the course of the adventure we would see the 2 MCs relationship go from childhood friends to something more romantic Unfortunately as we approach the halfway point of the season I actually find the characters less interesting and likable than at the start.
  23. I’ve always been fascinated by animation in general and it’s way to create worlds that could normally exist only in imagination. Even in a realistic setting, by using a particular art style, they can create a unique mood or tone. As far as why I tend to have more appreciation for anime than other types of animation, it just seems like the Japanese have more respect for the medium and are willing to take on more varied topics. As far as culture & philosophy are concerned, it’s not unusual for me to encounter ideas I don’t actually agree with, but that doesn’t keep me from finding it interesting or entertaining. Finally, in regards to my current obsession with anime (probably to a degree that’s not entirely healthy for me :P) Without getting into details the past couple years of my life haven’t been pleasant ones. My initial motivation for getting back into anime was probably largely nostalgia & escapism. But to my surprise I keep encountering topics that really resonate with where I’ve been recently. I could give numerous examples of individual episodes or scenes, but I think the best illustration is a recent series called My Roommate is a Cat which deals with coping with grief after the death of one’s parents as an adult. But also the awkwardness/stress/annoyance of social interactions when you’re a natural introvert. And in that respect I find it therapeutic to interact online with people I have a common interest with. Thanks for your patience if you made it all the way to the end.
  24. I’d watched the original series a long time ago, but remember very little of it. Not sure if it was because it wasn’t very good adaption or if I just wasn’t ready for it at the point in my life. Loving the new version though and glad it will apparently cover the whole story. Looks like there will be a break after September, but hopefully season 2 won’t be too long in coming.
