@XII360 ~gives directions~ Enter Christmassy store, wander around store aimlessly, notice ornament that makes you think of her, stop and check price. If price makes you grunt appreciatively, proceed with ornament to register. If price makes you grunt in dismay, place ornament back and continue to wander. Repeat process until gift is located. Return to first ornament if unable to find anything less expensive. @Sassy binging is for weekends...

@XII360 a Christmas ornament is usually best. @Sassy welcome to the forums! Night shift work is where I want to be someday. So lucky!

My sister did this for 2 years after she graduated as a teacher. No rent, she made my parents pay her back for groceries (even the stuff she bought for herself), and mooched on them when they ate out and all. Also got to use their maid as her maid to clean ger room snd do her laundry. She cleared enough money after her first year on the job to pay for a new car with cash. Effective...but it got old with my mom after a while. I did not. Would have been nice to save up more money for a house first but oh well. That's life. I got married pretty quickly after I graduated and I'm happy with that life with him.

@Persona I'm a pharmacist too, albeit a bit more experienced in the ways of the pharmaworld. Feel free to pm if you want to chat about it or commiserate about the dreadful state of our profession. Things are looking up for me but I've been where you are now. Not an easy path to walk.

Which anime would you like to see another season of?
Beocat replied to Persona's topic in Anime Discussion
Season 3 of Log Horizon. I had nearly given up on it (with him stopping writing during the tax scandal) but it seems my wish may yet come true! As long as he doesn't get blacklisted by the studios of course. Other than that, Yona of the Dawn. Good series, plenty of book material a new season could cover, but I believe that the author said one season was good enough (she basically did one season for the exposure and hopes people will switch to the books thereafter ☹). -
where can I buy great One Piece figure in the U.S?
Beocat replied to Tiffany Ai's topic in Anime Discussion
I've always found them fair, and you can get discounts if you are okay with less than mint packaging (if the corner of the box has a slight roll but you plan on opening it up to display anyways for example). Their packing and customer service is superb as well. -

BBTS (Big Bad Toy Store). They are online. Huge selection. -
An anime movie, not series. That definitely helps. Hmmm...

Do you watch the same anime series more then once?
Beocat replied to Geano's topic in Anime Discussion
Depends. I can watch Log Horizon a hundred times and never be bored or annoyed. Same goes for the Matsumoto anime and Crest/Banner of the Stars. Other stuff...not so much. If I enjoyed it on an average level it would be a very infrequent rewatch (Fate Stay Night for example). The greater the enjoyment, the more I'd be willing to rewatch it. -
Remember any hair colors? That helps a lot...

You got your wish but forgot to ask for bullets.... Hmmm.... I suppose I would bring books to read, a copper still (I could probably make some banana shine or brandy), and an awesome telescope for nightly pursuits. After watching Alone, I know pictures of family can be too cruel to have at times. I'm guessing @efaardvark might bring an axe (for chopping wood), a pickaxe, and a blank map....might be a real Minecraft adventure am I right? Truthfully, one of my favorite Minecraft worlds turned out to be a single tiny island surrounded by a vast ocean. It was challenging to say the least. Your screenshots make me want to play more Minecraft lol. It just is not as much fun playing alone.

Yes, huge Zoids fan here. I really loved the New Century series (not the chaotic century one) and have even gone so far as to collect the models....don't have any pictures on me though. Wish I had the Panzer model kit....it's the only one I'm missing...

@Persona welcome to the forum it is nice to see another cat around here... We're a pretty plesant group with a wide variety of tastes to talk about. I've found myself leaning towards reverse harems and romance as I age, but I still love my space operas snd darker series as well. Slice of life is something I enjoy on occasion. I enjoy crime/mystery anime as well but hsve had trouble finding good ones that do not hsve a hsrem as the main focus. Seems to be a 50/50 shot with that genre for me.

Implants require surgery, which is expensive and invasive and full of risk. I don't see it becoming a mainstream media thing ever. Then imagine the security threat if the implant could be hacked. I will say that there are some games with interesting perspectives on this. The one that immediately comes to mind is Dreamfall, where they use a hallucinogenic drug in conjunction with a console to create the effect (as well as brainwash people with it). I don't see haalucinogenics becoming mainstream in gaming technologies either though lol....

Welcome to the forums, and back to anime again I'm kind of curious now what was recommended lol... Right now my job is sucking up all my time so I've cut back on watching anime but I'm still getting in an episode every now and then. I completely understand where you are coming from there.

@leinwandname I know! When I read his blog on that news, I was so sad. 2020 is a long ways away ☹ Mistborn will really make you think. It has a darker, dirtier world, but the main characters are no less compelling. Let me know what you think of Mistborn and the Noble Dead when you've been reading them.
-
@leinwandname okay...but you asked... Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive series, starting with The Way of Kings (Goodreads link) is my definite recommendation to anyone who loves medieval settings with a great "magic" system. It isn't an easy read...the sure volume is immense, the characters are varied and many (some introduced here to be revisited in a later book even) and extremely well developed and introduced, but it delivers a story so entrancing that I couldn't put it, Words of Radiance, or Oathbringer down. I am blown away by every book and wishing the next were already out. He also wrote the Mistborn series, which is probably more afternoon reading like you wanted and I'd highly recommend it as well. If you want something shorter, I'd suggest The Noble Dead Saga from Barb and J.C. Hendee. It is a lot of books but more in the 200-300 page range. If you enjoy the writing and stories, Barb's Mist-Torn Witches series is set in the same world. In the Noble Dead it is easy in the first two books to see that they are new writers but they improve very quickly and the entire series is quite well imagined. Mist-Torn and Dead Seekers came last so they are very well written. I have more in store so if you enjoy those two series, let me know if you want more.

@efaardvark ever read The Uplift Saga? My favorite physics professor actually recommended it to me back in the day. I never finished the first book (life got in the way) but it was very good and might be right up your alley if you can find a copy. I totally understand the tech manuals thing. If I go hardcore on studying for a new certification exam, I'll be up to my ears in manuals all over again too. @leinwandname errrr....define short.... I'm guessing some of my 1000+ page favorites do not qualify.

Hey all, I figure there are probably some bibliophiles around here like me so let's share our books and maybe we'll find some interesting titles among us. I'm current reading the third book in The Sword and the Staff series, A Draw of Kings. Found the first two books at the local library and fell in love. The series is about a young drunk who becomes forced by the church to travel to join a readers conclave, and becomes a hero along the way. I love the writing and character development (set in medieval type of times). Errol is exceptionally well written and the plot is never dull. I highly advise the series so far

Overall the Sony PS lineup is good. Games like Sly Cooper, Atelier series, Grim Grimoire, Rogue Galaxy... honestly though it is mostly which console has the better games. In the N64/PSX battle, they were fairly even with PSX having all the JRPGs and N64 having Zelda and platformers galore. During the GC/PS2/Xbox era, PS2 far outshined everyone else with their library. During the PS3/X360/Wii era, the 360 truly was better (the PS3's internal digital setup created an excessive amount of extra programming actually scaring away developers with the huge cost increase to make the games-all due to antipiracy being the goal instead of awesome games). Now to me the PS4 is better (seems they learned their lesson) and back to the tried and true formula though I cannot comment on VR. I have the Sony VR but never tried the others. I have too many games to comment on in detail. I love many of them but my memory fades with time. I must be getting old lol....
