  1. 1. I actually like stabbing people. Had your flu shot yet? 2. If life were like Star Trek, I'd be a science officer (like Janeway). 3. I deal with a lot of stupid at work. I will not tolerate stupid in my personal life. While I am very understanding person, I will cut a person off for being that kind of stupid. 4. I went on vacation the other week (and am about to go again starting Friday after work!) and dreamed that my sweet angel Riptide (my cat) would have missed me so much that she would run up to me upon my return and demand my attention (while my husband was ignored). Instead....she snubbed me, while his darling furry daughter loved up on him upon arrival. Yep....snubbed. And still it burns.... 5. Some day I'm gonna find Bigfoot (Sasquatch). Mark my words.
  2. I feel frigid. I'm at work (at this location no one cares if I'm on a forum as long as things get done) and this satellite location has no insulation, and has to be on the corner of the building and it's 40 degrees outside. I'm an ice-cube. I keep walking over to the laughable space heater (it heats the 6 inches of space surrounding it) like it's a burning barrel under a bridge. Looking forward to going home where I will shiver over a pile of blankets and submerge into them like a flounder submerging into sand, with only my glasses left on top to show anyone was there. Pretty good otherwise. You all are keeping me in good spirits. Got to chat with my best friend two days in a row over lunch so that's definitely a positive too.

    Animes?

Being a SAO fan, maybe try Log Horizon. Or if you are feeling the harem vibe, Ambition of Oda Nobuna. It's a little bit odd, but I actually enjoyed it. Not sure how long you've been watching anime, but dot Hack is another you might be interested in. It was probably the first video game related anime to come out. I think SAO truthfully pulled a lot of inspiration (if not modified ideas) from dot Hack to begin with so put it on your list if you've never seen it. If you are looking to try a Space Opera, I'd recommend Knights of Sidonia or any of the Matsumoto works. If you like a lot of ecchi maybe The Girl Who Leapt Through Space (all subbed). If you are thinking about a Mystery, try Dusk Maiden of Amnesia or Another. Dusk Maiden has a big harem aspect to it and Another is more focused on horror/suspense. Some of my favorites are Log Horizon, Snow White with the Red Hair, Yona of the Dawn, Bacanno!, Selector WIXOSS (magical girl series...had a definite Madoka vibe to it)....too many to name really. I loved Familiar of Zero and even convinced my best friend to watch it (she loved it too). That one however is a love it or hate it one. People tend to form very strong emotions towards it. If you want a lite - harem (one guy, lots of women, but no one trying to get in anyone's pants) Lord Marksman and Vanadis is quite good. Good luck Let us know which ones you end up watching and if you like them.

    Animes?

What genres do you like? Anything you absolutely can't stand? What have you seen already? What did you really like? We'll need a bit more information or we'll probably inadvertently let you down.
  5. Hey, I wasn't so much a romance fan until the past 4-5 years. I watched a few, but I didn't go out of my way for them. I think my tastes have matured a bit with age however Or maybe I just know what I want now... Ever watched Snow White with the Red Hair? It is one of my newer favorites in the romance genre (It is even somewhat reminiscent of a reverse harem in some ways). To me, it is the most genuine romance I've seen since Ah! My Goddess. Also, ever played the Tales or Atelier series?
  6. Ancient Magus Bride is one I've been meaning on looking into, but I've been too busy to check out any new anime this season. That being said, I think we have a lot of Reverse Harem fans at this forum. It might be worth it to start a group/club for it. Truth be told, I was hoping I'd meet a lot of RH fans here
  7. I have a lot of games that I still haven't gotten around to playing, but I went back to playing Rogue Galaxy (downloaded it to my PS4). I beat it once on the PS2 and mostly loved it (all except Zerard). Realized that I had quit in the Factory (on Zerard....my most hated planet) last time I played it and rushed through it so my weapons and characters were way underleveled for the boss. I've been taking my time ever since and now I'm completely, totally, and never going back there except to purchase more bounty permits, finished with Zerard and ready to take on the rest of the galaxy again Now it's just fun all the way to the end.

    Movies

I'll watch most anything (with a few exceptions, most war movies or movies with explicit rape I won't watch) but there are very few that stick out in my mind as favorites. My husband is a horror flick junkie (all of October he was going Ch Ch Ch, ah ah ah...) and once I might have had a genre preference, but since I rarely watch TV these days (most of what I watch is hulu, Netflix, or purchased unless it's a show my husband wants me to watch with him) I have found that I just don't really care so much. I am looking forward to watching Murder on the Orient Express tonight but I loved the book too. My all time favorite movie is most likely October Sky. It's inspiring and meaningful. I remember I even got my father to sit down and watch it with me once and he loved it (brought out a lot of nostalgia for him and he sleeps through most movies), so I think it is something that most people could find inspiring. The musical score is a good complement for the scenes as well, really enhancing rather than detracting from them. .My favorite 3D movie (we have a 3D tv and bluray player at home) would be Passengers. It's totally up my alley as a Space Opera type. The trailer had me thinking it would be one thing, but then it was something different which was a pleasant surprise. If you "sub-genre" the list, my favorite "Marvel" movie would be without a doubt Dr. Strange (they need a sequel already!). I've watched it a dozen times now (and 3 times in the theatre when it was out). In fact, I really enjoy Dr. Strange in 3D too,,,so it's a close runner-up. My favorite "anime" movie is really between Spirited Away and Children Who Chase Lost Voices. They both really stick out in my mind as memorable, and I find myself going back to watch them both from time to time.
  9. Not sure why I didn't think of this earlier, but Hanayamata is another one. Loved it and it's in the 12-13 episode range (which the other 2 are not).
  10. Welcome which anime are your favorites?
  11. Bodacious Space Pirates and Petite Princess Yucie. Yucie gets just a little bit dark at the end, but the overall story focuses on the relationships she builds with everyone. I too was watching Engaged to the Unidentified this past week and I wish they had made a second season. I feel like I'm left hanging now!
  12. The first time I watched Yona and Snow White, my husband was on a week-long business trip and I was checking out new series on Hulu. I can't remember why I picked Yona first, the artwork may have made me think "is this a reverse harem?", but I binged-watched it after work and was so happy I found it. Even called up my best friend and went on a 5 minute excited voicemail over how awesome it was and how she would totally love it. That voicemail convinced her to try it and I converted another person to loving that series (she's read the manga as well). Then I was looking at the "summary" info of other anime and thought "wonder what that one's about." with Snow White. It read A pharmacist with red hair........ and it had my complete attention (I am a pharmacist.....with red hair....haha). I was relieved that it was a good anime, and loved it. So happy that season two came out pretty quickly on top of that. If you liked Another, try watching Future Diary. It's weird and creepy in all the right ways. Definitely leaves an impression. The ending of Another didn't freak me out...but I can say that I stopped using umbrellas for several months after watching it. >_>
  13. This was a quite enjoyable read. Thank you for posting this. I'm not sure why that mod thought you were being in a nihilist mindset as it is a realist mindset to me. I saw these problems coming a long way down the series so I never watch it anymore (aside from catching the random episode when nothing else is on). Truth be told, Nintendo's inability to allow the series to "grow" with it's original fanbase is a huge issue. There are so many ways Ash's character could have developed as he aged. Furthermore, accomplishing his dream by winning a league and becoming a Master wouldn't have ended the series. If anything, it could have been a springboard for a new dream to begin. When you accomplish your dreams, you don't stop dreaming. That's important to learn too in my book. Furthermore, the learning it's okay to lose theme needed to end a long time ago. It's past time that kids these days learned it's okay to win too. Our society has become twisted in a way that being successful is almost a crime. I'd like to see Ash win for a change because he's worked hard enough to earn it, and he should be capable by this point in time. That being said, with him never aging, there is only so much development that will ever occur (really how much mastering can you get done in 900+ episodes that span less than 1 year in the mindset of Nintendo?). As long as the series remains a cash-cow for Nintendo, the formula will not change. Ash will never win a major league, his companions will be slightly less interesting future failures for comedic relief and filler content, Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny will continue to be everywhere as relatives (Clones....), and Pikachu will never evolve (like the show). Eventually, fans may lose interest and they would be forced to make changes or fade into obscurity. Whether this will happen someday, we'll just have to wait to find out. Anyways, loved the essay
  14. I agree with the article in that it can make a person think negatively. For example, my best friend is unable to watch Attack on Titan without going into an extended tirade over the main character. She's even raged - quit several shows in the past. That being said, watching Rick boss people around on the Walking Dead does the same thing to me and it's not an anime. Keep in mind, you form opinions constantly while watching shows so they can make you think negatively or positively. That being said, Psycho-Pass is the one anime that had probably permanently affected my mindset. That one phrase, "the law does not protect the people. People protect the law" really made me think and made me realize some things in a different light. Didn't really change my behavior, only the perspective I use when considering issues concerning the Bill of Rights or our Constitution. It made me realize those "laws" could easily be taken away and by virtue of their existence those rights are still not guaranteed. However, a recourse against infringements of those laws is guaranteed by their very existence which makes protecting them all the more important. A convoluted way to think about it, but it makes sense to me. Changed my mindset anyways.
  15. I don't read much Manga (or novels from anime). I have a huge collection of books already and anime for me is more of what I do when I'm not feeling reading, video games, or anything else. Kind of how I like some superheroes but don't read the comics. I've read a few novels from anime, but that is a rarity in and of itself. I have played DQ8..and never will play another again. I was very frustrated with the switch on the villains midway and the DBZ-esque "fighting the bad guy 5 times because he said he was at full strength but was really just toying with you" gets annoying after they've done it once already. I finished it off and shelved it forever thereafter. Turn based or real time, I like them both. I just can't stand pointless battles (especially if the pointless battles might last 60 minutes or more each). The Tales series has some frustrating quirks too (I'm still mad that some of those characters can only fight well if fighting against instead of with me) but I suppose some things are a bit more forgivable than others.
  16. I'm not into that personally but I have some friends who enjoy it and I don't care that they have a life that doesn't match my own. I may be a bit harsh here but it's called "fantasizing" and a "fantasy" because it doesn't exist. Why bother fighting about it? If this person isn't fantasizing about you, then you don't really have a place to be cutting into it. Furthermore, as her supposed friend, you have a responsibility in the relationship to be if not understanding, at the very least non-judgmental. If you can't stop judging her for this, are you really friends? You don't have to understand to be a friend. Not judging is enough.
  17. Thanks. It's good to be back in an anime community again. A good question.... I love the Atelier Series, the Tales Series, Shin Megami series, Wizardry and Okage. Anime-wise, I'd say Crest/Banner of the Stars, Log Horizon, Another, Ah! My Goddess, Yona of the Dawn and Snow White with the Red Hair. There are so many to choose from, but that covers a good range.
  18. Let's see....I have... Atari NES SNES Sega Genesis Sega Dreamcast N64 Gamecube PS2 (my original fat PS2 and 2 slim PS2's that some coworkers were tossing from their son's old bedrooms haha...) Xbox Nintendo DS Wii (never opened the box...) Xbox 360 PS3 PS4 + VR gear About a third of my game collection is from the PS2 era (or was back in 2013). Back in 2013 (I'm not at home so I'm looking at an old file I had saved online listing my gaming inventory) I had 514 games. I know it has grown since but even my "at home" copy hasn't been updated in the past year or two.
  19. I don't think this is the right one, but it sounds similar to the beginning of Tenchi War on Geminar.
  20. So, thought I'd introduce myself. I used to be on another similar forum but I think it shut down around a year ago and I just finally decided to get back into an anime forum again. I love Space Operas and a healthy smattering of just about everything else in anime as well. I'm not terribly picky as long as the story is good. I have noticed over the years how my taste in anime has changed somewhat. I play a lot of video games, mainly RPGs, though I've been focusing on anime more in the past few years as my spare time has dwindled. I also SCUBA dive when not watching anime or playing video games and enjoy long bike rides along the sound. Glad to be here and able to chat with other like-minded people again.
  21. How about Ah! My Goddess? It's an older anime, but one of my favorites. While there is some comedy (involving the main protagonist's friends for example), the romance itself is mostly separate from that comedy. If you have never seen it, I highly recommend it. Also, I agree with Kanon. However, know that Kanon is a "harem" anime that might have been based off of a game, I've never looked into the history of its formation (he forms relationships with multiple girls, it focuses on each one individually as the story progresses). Many relationships develop but you won't have the "couple" lovey-dovey thing going on early in the series. However, it is one of my favorite anime because it is so beautifully tragic. I was entranced by that anime when I watched it. If you do decide to go that route and you enjoy it, consider Air (the summer counterpart of Kanon). Maybe try Snow White with the Red Hair as well. You would be looking at a longer build to the romance, but it is well worth it in my opinion.
  22. There have been a few anime's that have left me feeling this way.... The first one that came to mind was Tenchi Muyo GXP. I was a huge Tenchi fan back in the day, and although some of the movies were *cough* questionable, I had always hoped that Tenchi would end up in the Galaxy Police someday.... For those of you who have seen that anime, you know how messed up, twisted and all sorts of weird that one was (not to mention the look-alike friend). I got through maybe 5 episodes then quit. I regretted having asked my (at the time) fiancé to buy it for my birthday. I enjoyed Geminar however so my disappointment with GXP did not deter me from continuing on with the series with later storylines. The other one that comes to mind is Otogi Zoshi. I really enjoyed most of the first season (The Heian Arc) and I was really looking forward to watching the second season (Tokyo Arc - modern day). Maybe I misinterpreted the first season, but I also quit the second season after about 5 episodes. It's been so long since I watched it (probably over 10 years now), my memory is fuzzy on the reasons, but the crushing disappointment was real. I do remember being so happy however that I had only paid $19 for the whole boxset (with both arcs) that was usually $120 because I had waited to buy it online on Black Friday that year. If I had paid full price for it, I'm sure I would have been both disappointed and enraged haha.... I also was moderately disappointed in Pretear as they changed the storyline to make the "cool guy" the main attraction (though, I shouldn't be surprised. Most all reverse harems will do this or focus on the "cool guy"). I would have said La Storia de la Arcana Famiglia, but in all honesty, I had just watched the first season of Log Horizon before that so my expectations for anime was set way too high for a reverse harem. It took a couple of weeks for me to realize that. Now I try to separate amazing anime and "never watched before" anime by at least a week so my expectations have time to come back down out of the clouds.
