  1. It sounds like the second season of Magi. The underground prison anyhow.
  2. Welcome to the forums
  3. 1. Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess 2. Anime NYC 3. Shirō Hitsujikai (Okamisan and her 7 companions) 4. Yusuke Urameshi 5. Misty 6. Hiiro no Kakera 7. Pork 8. Probably Harlock....not sure which in my collection is the oldest. I have a solid collection of Matsumoto works.
  4. I would say Rena and Shugo from the dot Hack series....though you'll probably be mistaken for Kite and BlackRose. They aren't really mainstream characters.
  5. Welcome to the forums. What kinds of anime do you like? Any favorites out there? We're pretty friendly here so I hope you enjoy your time here.
  6. I don't agree with the reason being it resonates. Honestly, it's because it's easier to write. High Schoolers have no bills, no job (outside random part times), spend all their time essentially building relationships with pretty much no to few responsibilities. It's perfect for most stories and easy to build around. Most anime focus on multiple characters building relationships and usually have something odd that takes up a lot of time (either fighting, creating, or whatever) that would be difficult to easily fit into an adult life with worries about paying bills, a full-time job (no time to really socialize and build those relationships all day). It's easier to use high schoolers. Some really good ones find ways around the issues above.
  7. Same here. I'm looking for a career this year. I've had enough of jobs!
  8. Welcome to the forums AmFrandsen. We are a pretty nice group so I hope you enjoy your stay. I too love going to cons. There's one I go to every year (might not make it this year...) and I think if a fan has never been to at least one, then they are missing out big! That was an interesting list you have too.
  9. Hmm.... If I'm watching it subbed...not a problem, it's part of the original work. However, watching something dubbed...makes it different. For a first time viewer (for instance, my husband), honorifics is another slipperly slope to climb (and truthfully, he'll just be annoyed that it doesn't immediately make sense and not like the show). For a long-time fan of animation, it probably isn't so much of an issue. Truth be told, no one ever explained honorifics to me and I never looked it up. I just slowly pieced them together after years of watching. I'm very happy that these days we are keeping the Japanese names (for example, Usagi instead of Serena, though that particular flip wasn't a huge issue for me back in the day), but honorifics maybe need to be dropped in some of the dubs. For some, like Hiiro no Kakera, the honorifics are actually pointed out and argued in the dialogue (kun, chan, senpai) and so while it feels odd sometimes, it makes sense. It would be odder to try to translate that into english than to just leave it as is. Others, it comes off as klutzy. It really is dependent on the anime. I personally prefer that an anime pick a language and stick with it and just avoid these half'n halfs. Nothing can be done for it anyways. It isn't so much of an issue that it would be a turn off for me but for newer fans, it might muddy the water a bit.
  10. Probably Log Horizon....though I'd be very upset missing my sweet furbabies. I can totally see myself as an Enchanter/Apothecarist or Swashbuckler/Apothecarist. I used to play MMORPGs so it isn't a tale too outlandish to fit me...and I know what types of characters I preferred playing (usually support roles, far away from the front line....not a tank....occasionally an attack focused player). I think it would be pretty awesome really....(and really I could make my own way without the burden of taxes! Yes...I know the Round Table did institute some taxes but they were very small...not like the piano falling from the skyscraper type taxes that are crushing us all now. Who wouldn't love that?!). If not that, I could maybe see myself in a space opera.....traversing the stars. I'd probably be more engineering/mechanically inclined...if just a bit to get by. There's quite a few to choose from. I could see myself in Crest/Banner of the Stars (not part of the Abh Empire I imagine) or inside the Outlaw Star Universe. As long as I'm on a ship and going somewhere, I'd be fine. Just don't let Hitome read your future in her cards.... Whose country would you be part of?
  11. Welcome to the forums. I follow a little Kpop but nothing major. I use Akiji to keep up with the Kpop headlines and anime news and there's only a few songs that I listen to regularly. I want to actually download a few songs here but not many sites carry the songs I want (even if willing to purchase) so that's been a bust. Oh well. It's nice to formally meet you and Merry Christmas
  12. Welcome to the forums. We're all pretty friendly here so I hope you enjoy chatting with us.
  13. They might be a bit vague...I'll give you my number one answers. 1. Translating 2. Shiro (log horizon) - this you might want to require the anime name as many characters across anime can have the same first name and your audience may not be familiar with the characters or anime being guessed 3. My 5second answer was Shirayuki from Snow White with the Red Hair. My next answer was Kenshin from Rouroni, Jim from Outlaw Star, and Yona from Yona of the Dawn. -again, I think you should require the anime titles with it if for no other purpose than raising awareness of various anime that folks may be unfamiliar with. 4. All of them.... 5. Abrams -I wouldn't mind seeing him tackle a space opera anime. Would be interesting. 6. I'm honestly drawing a blank here 7. Voicing video game characters Question suggestion....Name a spaceship captain (or better yet space pirate), Gundam pilot (plus which Gundam it came from), alien character, and a heterochromia character.
  14. I can appreciate that too. I only have a few anime that really fit that criteria. A lot of anime tends to have a touch of magic. Still, like you said, most of the best are written by scientists and engineers and we both know how much those types of people like to write stories, haha...
  15. Welcome to the forums.
  16. Welcome to the forums.
  17. Welcome to the forums by sci-fi fan does this mean you also like space opera on the side or are you strictly Sci fi (steins gate, etc)? If your HS friend is who I think she is then she has had some pretty cool roles both in anime and in video games! Awesome for her. I love meeting voice actors really at conventions because they're really just like us...they love to talk anime and video games too for the most part.
  18. Welcome back! I look forward to chatting with you on the forum.
  19. Welcome to the forums Dragon. We do love to talk anime so you're definitely in the right place.
  20. Welcome! We're pretty friendly here, so I hope you enjoy chatting with us!
  21. Welcome Ozzie. Hope you enjoy the forums. New or old fans, we welcome all.
  22. Hmm...I thought of another one. The dot Hack GU series is now on the PS4 as well... So you can play a video game set in an MMORPG..... Two birds.
  23. So....would've been nice to know what you've already seen (and what you might not like)....anyways, hope there are some anime in this list that you haven't seen yet. 1. Ah! My Goddess - older anime, very sweet romance. It's impossible not to love Belldandy really. Some comedy. It's really a classic in my eyes. I'm glad I got it when I did. Took me years to get around to watching it (I really don't have much time) but it was worth it. 2. Brighter than the Dawning Blue - I actually liked this one. I bought this one blind (I buy a lot of my anime blind) and was pleasantly surprised by it. It has some pretty typical tropes, comedy...heartfelt first meeting plotlines you may come to expect from romance anime, but I felt it was pretty good overall. 3. His and Her Circumstances - So...the manga is great. A really great read. The anime is pretty good up until the last few episodes (supposedly the last few episodes was the producers way of antagonizing the author...real mature) and worth checking out if you haven't already. 4. MY love STORY! - Hmmm....well....boy saves girl, girl falls in love with boy, boy thinks she loves best friend...comedy then occurs. Truthfully, if you haven't seen this one, you should put it on your list. It is hilarious, weird, and aww inducing. 5. UFO Ultramaiden - So...only put this on your list if you like frustrating and annoying characters. Valkyrie crashes into the main protagonist's bathhouse on Earth and saves his life (after nearly killing him by reckless driving?) by using part of her soul to support his own. This somehow turns her into a child. She can become an adult (and do magical girl like things with her transformation from his kiss) and they fall in love. That being said....her kid form has one volume (LOUD) and her adult form doesn't stick around as much as one would like. It is an interesting conundrum. It's also an older anime...very episodic in nature, with an overarching storyline dropped in every now and then.... 6. The Future Diary - Now some of you are saying "Romance!? That Cat must be CRAZY!". Well....Future Diary shows you exactly how Crazy....love can be. You have two main protagonists...the guy and the girl who stalks the guy. It is horror so watch with caution if you aren't into that genre. However, for romance, I think it deserves a spot on the list. Certainly it isn't a traditional romance but it is a romance nonetheless. 7. Crest/Banner of the Stars - Space Opera....how I love thee. So, if you are into the gradual build to a romance with lots of character building along the way, look no further! When I say it is gradual...I really mean it. That being said, I feel that the romance is meaningful. It was really well done. I still wish they had continued it on anime (I read the books too but for me nothing beats seeing it on the screen). 8. Kanon - it's a harem anime. It is very easy to see the harem. That being said, it is one of the most tragic stories I have watched. Might be worth a try if you are willing. 9. Norn9 - To me, this is a straight up romance anime. Some people like to put it in the reverse harem category (it does have a lot of guys in it) and I can see why, but the romance is pretty clear from the start. It's short, 12 episodes maybe...Japanese voiced only (with subs of course). There is a lot going on in the anime and it is crafted very well. One of my favorite romance anime I'd say. 10. Snow White with the Red Hair - another one that many of us would put into a reverse harem category. Still, the romance is sweet, relatively clear who your main protagonists are from the start, and Shirayuki's strength of character is by far the reason I love her so much. You can't help but cheer her on. What I find really refreshing with this one is the resolve of the characters. So, let me know which ones you'd seen before (and which you are planning to see) and what you thought of them. Straight up romance wasn't something I really went out of my way to collect for years and years though these days I'm pulled more and more towards them. Maturing tastes, eh? An afterthought: In thinking of what my best friend would say, although I was not into the first few episodes (I was probably scarred by watching a terrible OVA that recapped the harem bleh!), check out Sword Art Online...first season? Anyways...I was told it was good up until the romance was cultivated and wrapped up....and that that was the only part I should bother watching haha....Anyways, if you are up for it, try it.
