  1. Actually watching Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya. Started last night. Only got 5 minutes in earlier. Today's a bad day. I've got neck problems that are flaring up but now that I'm all iced up I could probably enjoy it with lunch. I'm no longer cursing my existence so I'm going to give it another try. I was really enjoying it last night. I've got to get the rest this Christmas for sure
  2. So it was an aortic dissection. She had no chance. I feel bad for her family to have lost her so suddenly.
  3. Haha, I admit I'd probably fall in love with the guy wearing glasses instead. That was part of what ticked me off with Pretear. My type was canon in the Manga but they switched to the cool guy for the anime. What a cruel world we live in! Do you prefer your "prince" in swim trunks or speedos? Or do you ~gasp~ head to the nude beach instead? And... If you were a fly would you rather die by swatting, die by bug zapper, die by pitcher plant, or die by fly tape? Keep in mind, your days are numbered. I'm having too much fun with this.
  4. How in the world did I get Maid!? Have you seen my house!?
  5. Sorry to hear of your loss YA. Definitely is not something you want to ever happen.

    ps4 games

Depends on what you enjoy really. If you like "Minecraft/Craft, Build, Survive" games I'd say 7 Days to Die is a good choice. If you are a fan of horror, maybe Until Dawn. If you like JRPGs, go with Tales of Berseria, the Atelier games, and Persona 5. So many choices....Too many choices haha...
  7. You're the main protagonist in a reverse harem. Do you....fall in love with the "cool" guy, the "prince", the "no much to say athletic" guy, "the smart and wears glasses" guy, or the "cute, childish boy next door" guy?
  8. Haha, things get deep fast, right? It's okay. I'm glad you were able to get into video games and anime at home. I admit, my parents had the same resistance but they eventually gave up on me. Stubborn always wins in the end So a bit of "background info" first to set the stage. Well, for me, I grew up in a fairly well-to-do neighborhood. Most of the people in the neighborhood were retirees or fairly well-off people who made smart money-choices early in life. A lot of people would call my family rich, but truth be told they worked very hard and turned that money around into farm and land purchases, building apartments to rent and so forth. It didn't come without effort and I never thought of us as "rich" seeing as my parents never spent extravagantly. always re-investing to build or buy a new asset. Their retirement plan isn't the stock market...it's the assets they've accumulated and cultivated over the years. Smart, I'd say. My grandparents lived across the street and that was why my parents decided to build a home there. They thought my grandfather would die first and my grandmother (whose health had never been great) would need to be cared for. My parents didn't want to put her in a nursing home (something I completely understand) and were completely prepared to be her caregivers in the last years of her life. Well, my grandmother died first and my grandfather looks like he's going to pass my great-grandmother in age (she was a month shy of 100 when she passed) and he's still spry and rowing 5 miles a night at the local gym, going out dancing every Tuesday night. Anyways, my neighborhood was full of elderly...and the few younger homeowners (not even a handful) had kids who were much older or much younger than me. In effect, I was all alone. I don't really think of this as a bad thing. This kind of childhood really hammered and forged me into the person I am today. Independent, happy to be a hermit but happy to be with people I trust and enjoy, I form strong opinions based on actual data, and I consider friendship extremely valuable (friend is not a word I throw around without deep consideration) and I read people's intentions rather than just listening to what they say. I think it's made me quite capable. When I was in preschool, I demanded that my mother teach me to read. She started by making me learn the alphabet and then every night we'd read the newspaper together and she'd teach me a few words here and there, and how words read. Truth be told, I have no idea how, but I took to it amazingly well (perhaps a mix of my extreme desire to learn and my mother's willingness to teach me). I still remember sitting her in lap as she rocked in that rocking chair by the fireplace, reading the obituaries (that was the first section we'd read every night haha). By the time I entered kindergarten, I was reading already at a 5th grade level and reading had opened my world. No longer was a limited to the confines of that neighborhood. Through books, I could go anywhere, and I fell in love with the story. Words are words and together you make sentences which can make paragraphs, but a story tells you something. It shows you something happened. I could imagine new worlds through books. This is what really made me love video games (especially ones with a story to tell) and what pulled me into anime. I tend to pull away from episodic anime unless it has an overarching story to tell. Most television shows (other than soap operas, and I can't stand Victor Newman, sorry mom) are episodic as are most content for kids and teenagers. Anime broke that trend and I have held onto my love of it for decades now and I don't regret that at all. If anything, my love of anime has grown with time. I can think of no other reason why I gravitated so strongly towards it. First anime boxset I ever owned was Escaflowne on DVD (my mother bought it for me for Christmas....years later she would regret it as I refused to give up anime). I still pull it out and watch it from time to time. Can't stand Alan Schizar (probably spelled that all wrong) but what can you do? So, to give you the back cover summary The story in books you read, in anime you watch, and in video games you experience. All things worth my time to me. I get very depressed immediately following the end of a book (or book series), an anime, or a video game. I think that's missing the story but there's always a new story out there to experience.
  9. I feel frigid. I'm at work (at this location no one cares if I'm on a forum as long as things get done) and this satellite location has no insulation, and has to be on the corner of the building and it's 40 degrees outside. I'm an ice-cube. I keep walking over to the laughable space heater (it heats the 6 inches of space surrounding it) like it's a burning barrel under a bridge. Looking forward to going home where I will shiver over a pile of blankets and submerge into them like a flounder submerging into sand, with only my glasses left on top to show anyone was there. Pretty good otherwise. You all are keeping me in good spirits. Got to chat with my best friend two days in a row over lunch so that's definitely a positive too.

    Animes?

Being a SAO fan, maybe try Log Horizon. Or if you are feeling the harem vibe, Ambition of Oda Nobuna. It's a little bit odd, but I actually enjoyed it. Not sure how long you've been watching anime, but dot Hack is another you might be interested in. It was probably the first video game related anime to come out. I think SAO truthfully pulled a lot of inspiration (if not modified ideas) from dot Hack to begin with so put it on your list if you've never seen it. If you are looking to try a Space Opera, I'd recommend Knights of Sidonia or any of the Matsumoto works. If you like a lot of ecchi maybe The Girl Who Leapt Through Space (all subbed). If you are thinking about a Mystery, try Dusk Maiden of Amnesia or Another. Dusk Maiden has a big harem aspect to it and Another is more focused on horror/suspense. Some of my favorites are Log Horizon, Snow White with the Red Hair, Yona of the Dawn, Bacanno!, Selector WIXOSS (magical girl series...had a definite Madoka vibe to it)....too many to name really. I loved Familiar of Zero and even convinced my best friend to watch it (she loved it too). That one however is a love it or hate it one. People tend to form very strong emotions towards it. If you want a lite - harem (one guy, lots of women, but no one trying to get in anyone's pants) Lord Marksman and Vanadis is quite good. Good luck Let us know which ones you end up watching and if you like them.

    Animes?

What genres do you like? Anything you absolutely can't stand? What have you seen already? What did you really like? We'll need a bit more information or we'll probably inadvertently let you down.
  12. Hey, I wasn't so much a romance fan until the past 4-5 years. I watched a few, but I didn't go out of my way for them. I think my tastes have matured a bit with age however Or maybe I just know what I want now... Ever watched Snow White with the Red Hair? It is one of my newer favorites in the romance genre (It is even somewhat reminiscent of a reverse harem in some ways). To me, it is the most genuine romance I've seen since Ah! My Goddess. Also, ever played the Tales or Atelier series?
  13. Ancient Magus Bride is one I've been meaning on looking into, but I've been too busy to check out any new anime this season. That being said, I think we have a lot of Reverse Harem fans at this forum. It might be worth it to start a group/club for it. Truth be told, I was hoping I'd meet a lot of RH fans here
  14. I have a lot of games that I still haven't gotten around to playing, but I went back to playing Rogue Galaxy (downloaded it to my PS4). I beat it once on the PS2 and mostly loved it (all except Zerard). Realized that I had quit in the Factory (on Zerard....my most hated planet) last time I played it and rushed through it so my weapons and characters were way underleveled for the boss. I've been taking my time ever since and now I'm completely, totally, and never going back there except to purchase more bounty permits, finished with Zerard and ready to take on the rest of the galaxy again Now it's just fun all the way to the end.
  15. Not sure why I didn't think of this earlier, but Hanayamata is another one. Loved it and it's in the 12-13 episode range (which the other 2 are not).
  16. Welcome which anime are your favorites?
  17. Bodacious Space Pirates and Petite Princess Yucie. Yucie gets just a little bit dark at the end, but the overall story focuses on the relationships she builds with everyone. I too was watching Engaged to the Unidentified this past week and I wish they had made a second season. I feel like I'm left hanging now!
  18. The first time I watched Yona and Snow White, my husband was on a week-long business trip and I was checking out new series on Hulu. I can't remember why I picked Yona first, the artwork may have made me think "is this a reverse harem?", but I binged-watched it after work and was so happy I found it. Even called up my best friend and went on a 5 minute excited voicemail over how awesome it was and how she would totally love it. That voicemail convinced her to try it and I converted another person to loving that series (she's read the manga as well). Then I was looking at the "summary" info of other anime and thought "wonder what that one's about." with Snow White. It read A pharmacist with red hair........ and it had my complete attention (I am a pharmacist.....with red hair....haha). I was relieved that it was a good anime, and loved it. So happy that season two came out pretty quickly on top of that. If you liked Another, try watching Future Diary. It's weird and creepy in all the right ways. Definitely leaves an impression. The ending of Another didn't freak me out...but I can say that I stopped using umbrellas for several months after watching it. >_>
  19. This was a quite enjoyable read. Thank you for posting this. I'm not sure why that mod thought you were being in a nihilist mindset as it is a realist mindset to me. I saw these problems coming a long way down the series so I never watch it anymore (aside from catching the random episode when nothing else is on). Truth be told, Nintendo's inability to allow the series to "grow" with it's original fanbase is a huge issue. There are so many ways Ash's character could have developed as he aged. Furthermore, accomplishing his dream by winning a league and becoming a Master wouldn't have ended the series. If anything, it could have been a springboard for a new dream to begin. When you accomplish your dreams, you don't stop dreaming. That's important to learn too in my book. Furthermore, the learning it's okay to lose theme needed to end a long time ago. It's past time that kids these days learned it's okay to win too. Our society has become twisted in a way that being successful is almost a crime. I'd like to see Ash win for a change because he's worked hard enough to earn it, and he should be capable by this point in time. That being said, with him never aging, there is only so much development that will ever occur (really how much mastering can you get done in 900+ episodes that span less than 1 year in the mindset of Nintendo?). As long as the series remains a cash-cow for Nintendo, the formula will not change. Ash will never win a major league, his companions will be slightly less interesting future failures for comedic relief and filler content, Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny will continue to be everywhere as relatives (Clones....), and Pikachu will never evolve (like the show). Eventually, fans may lose interest and they would be forced to make changes or fade into obscurity. Whether this will happen someday, we'll just have to wait to find out. Anyways, loved the essay
  20. I agree with the article in that it can make a person think negatively. For example, my best friend is unable to watch Attack on Titan without going into an extended tirade over the main character. She's even raged - quit several shows in the past. That being said, watching Rick boss people around on the Walking Dead does the same thing to me and it's not an anime. Keep in mind, you form opinions constantly while watching shows so they can make you think negatively or positively. That being said, Psycho-Pass is the one anime that had probably permanently affected my mindset. That one phrase, "the law does not protect the people. People protect the law" really made me think and made me realize some things in a different light. Didn't really change my behavior, only the perspective I use when considering issues concerning the Bill of Rights or our Constitution. It made me realize those "laws" could easily be taken away and by virtue of their existence those rights are still not guaranteed. However, a recourse against infringements of those laws is guaranteed by their very existence which makes protecting them all the more important. A convoluted way to think about it, but it makes sense to me. Changed my mindset anyways.
  21. I don't read much Manga (or novels from anime). I have a huge collection of books already and anime for me is more of what I do when I'm not feeling reading, video games, or anything else. Kind of how I like some superheroes but don't read the comics. I've read a few novels from anime, but that is a rarity in and of itself. I have played DQ8..and never will play another again. I was very frustrated with the switch on the villains midway and the DBZ-esque "fighting the bad guy 5 times because he said he was at full strength but was really just toying with you" gets annoying after they've done it once already. I finished it off and shelved it forever thereafter. Turn based or real time, I like them both. I just can't stand pointless battles (especially if the pointless battles might last 60 minutes or more each). The Tales series has some frustrating quirks too (I'm still mad that some of those characters can only fight well if fighting against instead of with me) but I suppose some things are a bit more forgivable than others.
  22. I'm not into that personally but I have some friends who enjoy it and I don't care that they have a life that doesn't match my own. I may be a bit harsh here but it's called "fantasizing" and a "fantasy" because it doesn't exist. Why bother fighting about it? If this person isn't fantasizing about you, then you don't really have a place to be cutting into it. Furthermore, as her supposed friend, you have a responsibility in the relationship to be if not understanding, at the very least non-judgmental. If you can't stop judging her for this, are you really friends? You don't have to understand to be a friend. Not judging is enough.
  23. Thanks. It's good to be back in an anime community again. A good question.... I love the Atelier Series, the Tales Series, Shin Megami series, Wizardry and Okage. Anime-wise, I'd say Crest/Banner of the Stars, Log Horizon, Another, Ah! My Goddess, Yona of the Dawn and Snow White with the Red Hair. There are so many to choose from, but that covers a good range.
  24. Let's see....I have... Atari NES SNES Sega Genesis Sega Dreamcast N64 Gamecube PS2 (my original fat PS2 and 2 slim PS2's that some coworkers were tossing from their son's old bedrooms haha...) Xbox Nintendo DS Wii (never opened the box...) Xbox 360 PS3 PS4 + VR gear About a third of my game collection is from the PS2 era (or was back in 2013). Back in 2013 (I'm not at home so I'm looking at an old file I had saved online listing my gaming inventory) I had 514 games. I know it has grown since but even my "at home" copy hasn't been updated in the past year or two.
  25. I don't think this is the right one, but it sounds similar to the beginning of Tenchi War on Geminar.
