I am attracted by the stories, which are fairly diverse compared to most tv. Always had my nose in a book as a kid...

Engaged to the Unidentified. It is a romance and lite supernatural. Close to slice of life. Rin-ne From the same folks that brought you Inuyasha, it is light, comedic and fairly episodic. Not a slice of life, but quite enjoyable. Flying Witch Probably the closest to your request. Petite Princess Yucie Not a slice of life, but it has a great cast of various supernatural types. Comedic, mostly character development on an episodic level, and doesn't get serious until the end (so less seriousness to wear you out).

@ArchieKun Alright, allow me to play Devil's Advocate here. Consider that the producers were not willing to bend the story to fit cultural acceptance across international lines through dubbing. Great shows that cemented my love of anime in my childhood like Cardcaptor Sakura would never have been brought over (due to the gay relationship between her brother and his friend, as well as Tomoyo's obsession (and lesbian/incest love) for Sakura) because during that era, children were actually shielded from exposure to extreme social concepts of the time like homosexuality, pedophilia, incest, and so forth (some may not be considered extreme today, but remember folks, you cannot judge yesterday by today's standards!). At the very least, by changing some parts of the dubbing, the anime was able to reach a larger audience and I imagine that is one anime many fans look fondly back on even today, knowing it was changed. My sister doesn't really like anime...but she was into Sailor Moon, which also may not have continued if not subtly altered (to remove animal cruelty (in episode 2 or 3? It was an early episode where her brother kicks Luna maliciously because he hates cats - actually reminds me of some real crazy's I've worked with in the past), premarital sex, again homosexuality, and so forth). Many fans rail against these changes today but the fact of the matter is that they would have never seen the show to begin with if not for those changes having been in place. Sailor Moon was many a fan's (especially when it came to girls) first anime "love". Changes like those were put in place to protect a very young audience who may be watching (remember, a lot of these were on Saturday mornings and weekday afternoons immediately after school). Children are exposed in my opinion to far too much these days. While I too prefer the original storyline as opposed to the changes, I can 100% agree with the reasoning behind instituting those changes, especially because it gave access to those anime earlier rather than later. I do think that some anime does need censorship, because parents are not willing to parent their children these days. Parenting is hard...and sex is easy. Funny how that works. Those anime that should be censored in my opinion are the ones that are being targeted to children (and shown on "cartoon specific channels targeting very young audiences). If you want an uncensored version, I think the producers should always produce for purchase an "uncut" version (which I have for Sailor Moon. Big beautiful boxes that I came across by pure serendipity one day and was very willing to dump some cash on to get them.). I agree with censorship on a level, even though I prefer to see the author's original vision. Some concepts shouldn't be taught to children until they are actually old enough to comprehend them. I worked with pediatrics and I've seen some messed up kids. Yeah, the 90s anime were famous for censorship, but it was done with the right audience in mind. Just my two cents.

I would watch Another first. It is shorter and excels at suspense. Mmm, Case Closed.... love that series.

Too many things can go wrong with a dub. My chief complaint is when the rich girl sounds extremely southern (Hollywood's version of southern that is) as if they are trying to portray her as a Southern Belle type. It never matches correctly with the personality and the mannerisms are always off (I am from the South. I would know.). I hate hate hate it! It is actually starting to feel offensive to me when they use it because it feels like they have a rich girl must have old South accent agenda. If I see that in an anime, I switch to Japanese or I quit the anime entirely. I won't continue talking about it much more because it really angers me. It shows an outright lack of education and experience with Southern accents. The accent varies from state to state, even within states, because they originated from different peoples. Bah humbug to crappy dub casting. No two states even have the same accent. What a stereotype folks! Other than that, there are just some dubs I will never like. I understand that studios don't have a massive pool to pull from but I do wish they had a bigger variety. There are more but I digress. My biggest peeve is out there. If nothing else changes but getting rid of it in the next 5 years, I will be happy.

What do you think can improve the anime industry?
Beocat replied to schuch,mx's topic in Anime Discussion
I agree with a lot of what @the_twig said. Especially small libraries. Also, too many smaller genres don't get representation (magical girls, reverse harems, space operas), certainly not nearly enough. I would like to see more come over. Must work well on consoles (I use consoles to stream because I prefer to watch anime on my tv) and be easy to navigate. Would like to see a feature that has specifically kid friendly anime listed. Will think on it more after the movie.... -
I considered Baccano! too. I think it is more Horror/Comedy though. It has a lot to offer and somehow does it well in such a small timeframe. Guess PsychoPASS would be s good pick too.

Another does an excellent job at Thriller/Suspense. Future Diary does too.

Well, never met anyone in my life who was already watching anime. My best friend watches it though. She moved overseas and started watching it there. She never mentioned it in a letter, I never did either until probably almost college. She had moved back and I think I threw out the name of Escaflowne as a Christmas gift I had recieved and was super excited about. She told me about hers and I did the same and we had a new topic to chat about. I have introduced anime to a few people but only succeeded in getting one interested in it. Hoping to ensnare my nieces and nephew someday though. She is slowly getting her new bestie into anime but it has been difficult. She doesn't like things my friend is into (maybe fringe things) so I made some suggestions based off her personality. Waiting to see if she tries any of them. I figure that girl is on the fringe of my interests and the fringe of my friends interest too (we are fringing on each other already) so if we get her into it, between the three of us we'd be extremely well rounded. I'll be your friend @anime4eva. Just confirm you aren't a crazy stalker person and we're good Feel free to message me!

@the_twig I am officially impressed.

Avoid buying a lot of furniture. You will likely move again in the near future (3-4 years, most apartments tend to increase rent on an annual basis banking on the fact that moving is costly and might act as a deterrant) and the more furniture the more trouble it is to move. Get a steam mop or bucketless mopping system. Believe me, lugging around a bucket full of water is miserable. Invest in ear plugs. One apartment I stayed at one neighbor would play his tv loud every weekend. I never got any sleep. The other one would play Super Mario Bros on the NES once a week (always at 2am or so. I'd wake up hearing the music and listen to him playing through the levels until he ran out of lives and quit for the night. Once a month like clockwork. I actually didn't mind being woken up by him.). Get some extra broom handles or boards you can saw off to various lengths and reinforce your windows and doors so that they cannot be forced open (your neighbors will know when you are and are not home. Don't make it easy for them.). Get Renter's Insurance. If your neighbor gets high and sets the apartment complex on fire and all your anime and clothes go down in flames...well with insurance and a good inventory stored on youtube (I like to youtube my game, anime, jewelry, and other expense to replace items for insurance purposes (on a private video) once a year in case the house burns down) you can monetarily recover from it. Don't forget to get your plunger for your toilet. Get the industrial plunger (the one with the ball plunger, not the suction cup one). It'll cost you more money but it'll work better too. You don't want to have to run out and buy it after you've stopped it up. Use command strips and hooks for all your wall-hanging needs. Save that deposit money Make certain the rental folks give you the emergency phone number list and put it on your fridge. Every single solitary time it snowed my heater would go out, and always on a Friday night. If you are female, I also recommend getting some pictures of a male cousin or friend to put up in your apartment (along with some men's worn out work boots) to imply to anyone who might be there to perform repairs that you do not live alone. A simple deterrent for creeps. I hope you enjoy your new home and save up some money

My best advice to you would be to cruise through this list (as many pages as is necessary) and see if you recognize a ghost. The Anime-Planet List You didn't give out much about the plot so most of us will be grasping at straws over this.

@RepentantSky, that's a good list. Thanks for sharing it with us again You got me thinking on some of them...My thoughts.... 10. I do agree with this one. I actually watch a lot of anime these days that are not set in high school (and have older characters). Some examples include Log Horizon (they are mostly college/post college aged), Recovery of an MMO Junkie, Otome Yokai Zakuro (the girls are difficult to age, but the men seem to be in their low to late 20's), most Leiji anime, and so forth. I really started avoiding the high school anime about 4-6 years ago and limiting my purchases of them to certain genres (exceptions being magical girl animes - they tend to thrive in school settings). I just don't enjoy them as much and I know that you can use older individuals and still get a great story from it. I watch some from time to time, but I don't look forward to them as much. 9. Yes! But let me fix your error... Overly sexual high school girls. The day I watch an anime girl fondle and squeeze a man's grapes in an anime grocery store... Well, I'd call that a two way street then. I do see where you are coming from, but the sexualization is heavily skewed toward sexualizing females. Now, I want to point out that not every male should be a chiseled body of lean perfection. I like my nerds tall, pale, and a little bit weak if you know what I mean. The way most anime males look in a bathing suit is like they spend a couple of hours every morning toning their abs yeck! Muscles are not always equal to sex appeal. Some good chest hair is quite alluring at times on the right body (though come to think of it...Japanese men might not grow chest hair...O_O ). Takes all kinds of kinds. 8. I haven't really noticed this. I wish you had given some paired examples for me to look up with anime titles. I'm actually quite interested in this. Namely because I hadn't noticed it... I do know that usually the first 1-2 episodes are corny all the way to the moon and back... 7. I never watched Re:Zero…. hope that didn't cause anyone to have seizures. I can't really comment on this one =/ 6. I bet you didn't like Uta no Prince-sama… I too dislike the eyes lacking expression and depth. It works in some anime but only for certain characters. Uta no Prince-sama...well, she has no actual personality (you are supposed to project yourself onto her I suppose) so the lack of detail there is alright. If the guys had been the same way, I would have been very displeased. To pair with this thought is the mind control glaze as I like to call it. If no one else can immediately notice the glazed look of sudden "glassy eyes that look like a window with the glare of sunlight on it", then I don't want to see it either. Keep the eyes the same. Their lack of expression is enough to get the point across. 5. ~gasp~ But the Reverse Harems are just now starting to make their way to America in larger numbers! I agree though that it doesn't have a place in most anime that are using it. Another point here. Harems have had a negative impact on anime families. These days, the only reason the male MC has a little sister is so she can be a future harem member. So sad....so sad.... 4. I'm going to go out and get myself shot at... lots of relationships are straight. If they weren't, we'd have a negative population rate on our hands. I'd like in video games for the developers to stop assuming that everyone is bisexual, but unless I create my own game, I have no leg to stand on (for example, when Miranda (and Jack) told my female Shephard she wasn't romantically interested in me in Mass Effect 2...when I wasn't trying to romance her, just be her friend, that irritated me! Geez! Can't I just have a best friend!? Why does it always have to be "oh you are talking to me and kind to me. You must want to bang me." Ugh! Morrigan did the same thing in DAO if I remember correctly. You aren't allowed to have friends in video games, only lovers!). That said, if the author wants them to be straight, bi, gay, les, undecided, hermaphrodite, whatever, then it's the author's story. I'm just fortunate enough to get to see it as an anime. That doesn't really have anything to do with the anime studio (though in Cardcaptor Sakura, a gay relationship was portrayed in the dub as being a "bromance" but I believe that was in large part due to the era and the target audience that was taken into consideration and not the studio's direct opinions on the relationship itself. This is pretty uncommon to happen these days as far as I know.). I personally become irritated when a character that was written as straight by an author is changed to be homosexual by a studio to satisfy that demographic (Star Trek anyone?). Make a new character if you want that. There is a certain level of respect that should be shown to an author when handling their creation (their brain baby!). I do believe that the proportion of manga/visual novels that are yuri/yaoi are much higher than what becomes anime. Why they don't become anime, I don't know. I'm going to throw this out there too. A friend of mine was a fan of the old Battlestar Galactica. Refused to watch the new Galactica because Starbuck was a girl. While I enjoyed the new Galactica, I completely and totally understand where he is coming from. Change is bad! 3. I don't really go with a lot of action anime anymore so I wouldn't know... 2. Mmmmm…..brains...…excessive blood splatter...… I think I get what you are saying here... Gore is to Horror Anime like Ecchi is to Harems.... Mmmmmmm…..yummmmm……. 1. Hadn't noticed this either. I prefer watching dubs when I can (less reading. My eyes are bad enough from my job. The less I strain them the better!). When I watch subs, I think I just assume that I can't tell the difference in voices because they are in Japanese. In America...the difference is easy (in part due to accents and inflections). It is easier to pull out differences in anime with singing (Uta no Prince-sama, Dance with Devils, etc).

@RepentantSky You should link that list. I'd love to read it.

@ArchieKun I felt it had the standard cast of personalities. Different setting, different names, but really the same stuff (it always makes money). I did not find it original but my best friend loves Scarlet. I watched maybe 10 episodes then dropped it. The genre itself just isn't my cup of tea these days. In my youth, yes. In my withering 30's? Nope.I wasn't into Naruto either if that tells you anything...but my best friend was. Guess if you were a Naruto fan you'd enjoy FT.

I suppose I'm the odd cat out. I admit I have a certain fondness for 1970s anime.... Quite a few gems came out in that era. You have the Leiji Universe, the first Gundam, Lupin, Gatchaman , Cyborg 009 and so many more. These are all great anime and to me they have stood the test of time. Part of that is the fact that back then anime was hand-drawn frame by frame (and it wasn't cheapened by using repeating transformation scenes like Sailor Moon is oh so famous for). It's beautiful and the effort and passion of the artists is evident when you watch it. In fact, I have had problems trying to go back to watching older anime from the 90s. Tenchi (his voice didn't used to annoy me...), Sailor Moon (too many transformation scenes), Trigun (Somehow I didn't remember him screaming quite so much...) and then a lot of plots back then were episodic too... It isn't all of them but I have to lower my expectations sometimes lol... I still have my favorites from that era that actually stood the test of time really well Modern anime I generally enjoy all around. They are smooth and the ones I watch are well written. I might have transitioned into different genres from the 90s too to help with the issues I had (in the 90s I was pretty stuck with whatever was on tv). Still, 1970s was where it was all at. That was the era to start watching anime for sure

Not much else tech-wise here. Once upon a time maybe...but that time has passed me by. Wish I had taken some programming/tech classes in college. I play video games but no modding. I am planning on upgrading to a fancy (ahem...expensive) telescope soon (with it's own software to boot) and doing some astroimaging so I might need a better computer for that. Will cross that bridge after I get there lol...

I would share more but only under a "business" agreement, if you know what I mean. Story writing is my specialty and I can often craft some very interesting characters and environments. That being said, if I saw my creation pop up on steam without me being a part of making it happen, I'd be pretty sad...a little upset too. If you are looking to create a game or start up an indie studio and need a writer on board, I can help out for sure there

I have somewhat. It's been a spare time thing so I have most of the backbones in the right places. I've been taking a different approach too on some things (that both increases the difficulty and other parts where it would make the game interesting even on replays). I have general summaries worked out for the grand scheme but now I'm working on the townsfolk backstories and personalities. I've figured out what I want in the townsfolk, just have to find the time to keep pecking at it. Keep in mind, I have no prior experience at all...and I probably have some lofty goals for the game lol.... Aim for the moon, eh?

O_O I think it's time to start a riot.... The only entity Chuck Norris fears is Shadow Chuck Norris, duh duh duhhhhhhhhhh! Tick tock, tick tock. _______ afraid of ________!

I am mostly a "browse the web, post on forums, and check email" kind of girl. I do have Gamemaker Studio 2 on my computer with the intent to someday make a Harvest Moon-like game. Thing is, I will be teaching myself to do it all from the ground up. Will probably never come to fruition though I've already got a notebook filled with townsfolk, vegetables, farm ideas, easter eggs and the like. Maybe in 10 or so years...at the speed of me lol....
