  1. XII360 came to my door, took me hostage, and demanded visual novels as ransom for my safe return. Pies, cupcakes, and ________ are ______ things for _________.
  2. Don't feel bad about it. When it came out on tv, it was under the name War Planets (as pictured) but then later released on VHS and DVD as Shadow Raiders. I don't think I ever have met another person who saw this show that I didn't introduce it to. Long time ago but if memory serves me adequately, I believe it was around 8 or 830am Saturday mornings EST. How I managed to wake up to watch my shows at that early hour shocks me. Even more so that I managed to watch the entire series without fail. This was another one from those years. Cybersix. It too got a re-release (which I gladly purchased). I think this might have been an afternoon show. There was a gaggle of different types of shows that came out in that timeframe. A pretty good time to be growing up actually
  3. Wisdom dictates restraint, yet I chose to spend. I will ______ those that I hate, so long as it is ________.
  4. I didn't watch it but some of the bots look familiar and the bad guys in black with antennas definitely look familiar. I probably saw bits and pieces of it but I think I might have aged out of that show by the time it came out. It certainly wasn't something I followed, but probably saw while flipping through channels. Now, I wonder...do you remember this show? Hint hint...you can't find VHS or DVDs under the name listed in that picture. Made collecting them impossible for me for years (since I didn't know the alternative name to look for). It should be in the same timeframe as your show, though it didn't get the same treatment in a re-release that Reboot got from Mainframe Entertainment... How I wish they'd re-release it for me...probably will once I've finally managed to collect them all...
  5. Welcome to the forums. I thought at first your name was Palpatine like in Star Wars but then...nope. I hope you enjoy your stay here. Do you have any favorite anime or video games?
  6. Hmm...depends. Mind you, this is my personal opinion. I'm not flaming anyone for having them, but most are a huge detractant to me. You can do what you want...you're the one who has to live with it. Just wish sometimes people weren't so fast to put their bodies on display for the world to see. I know what I like and what I don't like. Remember you asked me for my opinion on them... As far as tatoos, as long as they can be covered up (I don't want to see your trampstamp or whatever - don't even care if you have a story to go with it), I have no issue with them. In fact, I've seen lots of really beautiful ones, and ones that have real art to them, but I am not interested in looking at people's skin. Most of them are downright tacky, however, poorly planned (usually on impulse) and oftentimes in places where they will end up being stretched and wrinkled to an even worse look someday. Remember folks...you won't be young and pretty and thin forever. As far as piercings go, it depends... So normal piercings on the ear (and top of ear) are fine. I can even handle having to look at someone with a piercing on their nose (side of nose only) and not think twice about it. Tongue piercings, no thank you. Eyebrow piercing, and I think you are an idiot to chance your eyesight for a piercing. Belly button piercing, nope. Bull piercing (middle of nose), I bet that's the first thing that gets grabbed in a catfight... Genital piercing, please people stop telling me about your and your SO's piercings down there. Don't want to know. Nasty. On the same level as genital piercing is ear lobe stretching with those circles. Those make me throw up in my mouth a little. Had a friend whose boyfriend had some the size of the palm of my hand. I couldn't be in the same room as him without feeling nauseous. It isn't pretty and it certainly is not cool. I have actually stopped purchasing from stores who have hired clerks with these stretchers on them (because it sickens me to see them. I'd rather shop online than have to deal with that at the register.). You can't cover it up. You have to have "surgery" to fix it. The last two I mentioned are people going to an extreme, which is rarely healthy. It's an individual decision. I just don't like most of it.
  7. Welcome to the forums @ArchieKun. Which Tales is your favorite game? I once would have said Tales of Symphonia (I personally loved tormenting my crew with Raines cooking Left her as the cook the whole time) but Tales of Graces captured my heart all over again. I actually have some Tales statues of my favorite characters. Great series. I am big on gaming and RPGs if you ever want to chat
  8. @anna last guess.... . Aoharu x Kikanjuu. I think this is the only other host club type of anime I can think of. Never watched it, just have heard about it. I know the girl hides her gender for the club and ended up there due to possibly settling an injustice. I think they are not all that butlery...
  9. @anna So doesn't match your description perfectly (I think you might have 2 anime mixed up...), but every time I read your descriptions they scream to me Bonjour Sweet Love Patisserie and it is in the right timeframe. Check it out and let us know.... It has a series too...
  10. @anna Any way you can describe the timeframe/era you saw this anime? Was this recent (last few years), not so recent (2000-2005) or what? If you can give us a year you saw it (and if it was new then or old), it would help significantly.
  11. Never alt'd on a forum before, but I do have 3 fanfiction.net personas. Two of them write mysteries (one I use for short stories, the other for longer stories...helps keep me from looking like I have abandoned a longer multichapter story when I am in a short story mood). The third account is extra special. You see, myself and a friend noted that good stories that are well written rarely recieve many reviews and that bad stories with crappy grammar get hundreds of reviews. Anyways, we created this as a joint account to experiment with the "why does this happen?"s. Long story short, we found that no matter how terribly we wrote (I had to turn off my autocorrect to even write for this account lol. It kept fixing my errors lol), we got a massive amount of reviews (it made us not want to post stories actually). Some people flamed us, others encouraged us, one guy said the plot was interesting (these were 200 or so word chapters, with sentences like "he wint tu shapin mal an sen a pretee gurl with amond calord hare", literally every sentence, even the disclaimer! Why would anyone suffer the blasphemy of reading them!?), and a few were onto us experimenting on the masses. Over 50% were positive reviews. People kept clicking to read the next chapter and the next, and the next.... Our faith in humanity crumbled that year... So, yeah. Fanfiction.net yes. Forums, no.
  12. As an afterthought, I feel I should warn you...actually study the names of food items before you do anything else. I remember seeing Horse on the menu when I visited Germany (prior to going, I had made sure I knew my food groups in German so I stuck to safe things like schnitzel and spaetzle) and I have a feeling they have it on the menu is France too. If there is anything you don't wish to consume...better figure out what it is called in French before you eat it by accident... Our tour guide made a joke to some of the other people about having eaten Black Beauty and they were green for days....haha...
  13. @XII360 Darling in the Franxx? Haven't seen it but it has generated a buzz... If you haven't seen Yona then you definitely should set aside some time to do it.
  14. Haha, Spanish. Had a baseline understanding from middle school, took Latin in highschool (the basis of all the romantic languages), and then completed my understanding by watching a lot of Spanish soap operas over a few months in college in my spare time. Helped me to understand it, but when speaking it I sound very uneducated. By the way, Granny always has a gun in the Spanish soaps and she's willing to use it! Never discount the old Hispanic lady in a murder investigation lol... Best of luck to you. My best friend lived in a French speaking country for over 4 years and never learned the language...
  15. Welcome to the forums Piiachu! We are a friendly group so I hope you will feel at home in no time. Looks like you have Yona as your avatar. Might I be assuming correctly that you are a Yona of the Dawn fan? I really enjoyed that anime (as did many other members here).
  16. Welcome to the forums, Lein! We are a friendly group and we love discussing stuff too so you found the right place. I agree that most ecchi and harems are poorly done...I typically avoid them myself. I hope you enjoy talking with us and the forums
  17. Frith...that's called possession....
  18. Happiness is not the same for all. I doubt it would be the same for me everyday either. How's that for cryptic answers @XII360
  19. Similar to this, I'd take a note out of The Good Witch's book and say "A life filled with happiness." Cassie's 16th birthday wish was a life filled with love, and I recall her saying it came true every single day. That's the kind of wish I would like.
  20. Welcome to the world of Anime, @AlexOrWonder. Ghibli is a good start for any new fan partly because they pull from literature around the world and adapt it to their vision (Howl's Moving Castle for example). After Ghibli, there is a whole world waiting for you out there. Try out some different genres (never flat out refuse a genre till you have tried it) and find your favorite flavors. Some I would recommend... 1. Log Horizon ~ This is an isekai (Trapped/Transported in/to Another World), and a member of the tiny subgenre, Trapped in a Video Game. The mechanics of the game are well explained, the characters are enjoyable, and there is plenty of intrigue as well. The author is writing again so we may yet see a season 3 come our way. 2. Crest of the Stars ~ as a Space Opera fan, this is one of my go-to recommendations. Crest of the Stars is like a prequel to Banner of the Stars and will give you a good understanding of the Abh and the political set. Banner is a masterpiece to me. I would recommend the entire series. 3. The Matsumoto works (Harlock series) ~ if you watch Crest/Banner and still can't get enough, checking out Matsumoto is the logical conclusion. A word of warning, many of his series are very old, subbed only...if you cannot handle those restrictions, you might want to just pass them by (some are 40 years old). 4. Makoto Shinkai ~ Like Miyazaki, Shinkai makes movies and is widely celebrated. I would recommend starting off with Children Who Chase Lost Voices and if you fall in love, watch more of his stories. 5. Another~ if checking out the horror scene, this is a good one. It builds the atmosphere and suspense in a way that ensnares you and horrifies you at the same time. 6. Moribito ~ this anime has a lot to offer and is very unique. Check it out 7. Cardcaptors ~ this is the Magical Girl genre and my favorite in the genre. The original series started around 20 years ago with the Clear Card series starting just recently. Start with the original and work your way up. 8. Attack on Titan ~ this is a Shounen series many obsess over. The story is good but the main character can be a bit...grating... 9. Ghost in the Shell ~ for sci-fi, this is a great series. A long series too... I could say that most longtime anime fans have heard, if not watched at some point, Ghost in the Shell. Add ons that crossed my mind late... 10. Madoka Magica ~ in consideration of your love of art, check this Magical Girl anime out too. Critically acclaimed, with interesting artwork... You will be hardpressed to find someone who doesn't love this one. 11. Your Lie in April ~ since you also enjoy music, you will likely fall in love with this one. I believe the Japanese public actually voted it as a top Ambassador anime one year too (meaning they thought that it was a good anime that would positively appeal to an international audience).
  21. ~swats at @XII360 with a rolled up manga~ Respect your elders! Darn Whippersnappers. No respect I say, no respect! ~winks at @XII360~ ~coughs~ Ahem, welcome @Yasu_Takagi to the forums. I think you will find us a friendly group who loves anime and loves to talk about anime. Most of us will preface (or post-face) our jokes with a joke disclaimer so no worries there and 95% of the time, it will be a general joke (nothing personally aimed). I personally am a big fan of puns so hopefully you can bear with me on some posts. If you came from reddit, then it is no wonder that you are scarred beyond belief. That is one messed up place (I only use reddit to keep up on the opinions, mostly negative, coming out of my profession. I think reddit tends to fuel negativity or that is my experience with it anyways.). So, about myself. I am 33 years old, also been watching anime for well over 20 years now, so I'm in the same group that you are in I don't understand the "weeb" thing either. I think these days people enjoy playing victims (and self-deprecating plays into that) as victims seem to get perks... My opinion on it anyways. If someone called me that, I'd probably give them a piece of my mind...the nonhospitable piece I keep as a backup when Southern charm has reached its limits. No one here is going to be demeaning to you, and hopefully, you'll return the same kindness.
  22. I have never ever ever ever heard those generalizations about anime fans @Basoc. Not sure where you live, but if that is what you are hearing, you should be re-educating people. Most of what I hear being female, is that like video games, anime is only for guys (or worse, children!) and that I must be faking my love of it (for attention?). Those stereotypes come from people who don't watch anime. I have found most people who watch anime don't make stereotypes or generalizations about people who do enjoy anime. Sure we gripe about certain subpopulations in our community (the sub-dub elitest for example, or the SAO extremist fanbase) but we don't tend to judge ourselves.
  23. Well...better to have to go too much than not being able to go at all... Use the tp with aloe. It has been thunderstorms nearly every night here. Usually does this every year. I hope you feel better soon!
  24. Well, I just woke up and fed the kitten (still on bottled milk ), so I'm still a bit groggy but... I honestly don't care much what the source material is. HOWEVER, if an anime has a source material, and that said anime deviates from the source material (in romantic picks, in how things are resolved, in the fate of various characters, etc), that absolutely annoys me and tends to make me dislike the anime. For instance, let me point out Pretear (which is my usual example for this as the changes are quite dramatic to the story). When watching the anime, you will see she is surrounded by several men but the one guy the anime seems to focus on is the typical grumpy, oh too cool for you to handle with some sad backstory for later humanizing. That being said, it is clear that she actually meshes well with another guy...there is a strong feeling that she is supposed to be with this other guy. Yet the grumpy red-haired guy is the cool guy (another sad fate of anime. Grumpy cool people always get the girl.) and time and again they are forced together and it just doesn't work right. I cannot help but wonder, why not the other guy? They have chemistry and actually mix well and the sneaking suspicion begins to bloom. Why is she so blindly focused on this guy? Why the obsession with the whole idea that "the more you dislike someone the more you must be passionately in love with them" thought (by the way, that doesn't work. If you dislike someone and are always fighting, you may have "passion" but rarely actual love. A couple fighting is not "romantic tension". Usually it is simply a crappy match. The line between love and hate is quite easy to spot. It isn't as fine as that stupid quote makes it out to be.)? Well, a quick looksee at the source material (a novel of some kind or a manga...don't recall off the top of my head) shows she is actually not supposed to be with the cool guy. She is supposed to be with the guy I had pegged as her "real" romantic interest. In fact, they dramatically change the story to get her "real interest" out of the picture entirely in the anime. That pissed me off. Now, I prefer to see what the original author's actual original view was...when things are tainted by fans pulling an author this way or that (I can name other stories where an author admittedly obsessing over reading her fan's fanfics changed the story for the worse), or by a studio changing the story around because they think doing something else might make more money, that just makes me mad. It makes me really dislike an anime too. Sadly, this is a common occurrence. Now, if it shortens something for the sake of time or even skips things that aren't critical to the plotline or character development, that is forgivable. Completely changing the story is not. That being said, I rarely read source material unless I have reason to suspect an alteration (they are generally quite easy to spot) or I love the anime so much I want to read it too. Maybe part of it is that I'm an author of sorts myself...and this treatment of a primary literature is blasphemy to me. Maybe it isn't. I don't know. I just know that I cannot stand it. So, to wrap it all up, I don't really care what source an anime comes from as long as it is true to its source.
