  1. I'd check the date and winning numbers for the lottery (when it was obnoxiously high but no one won), and I'd go back to that day and buy a ticket...muwhahahahaha!!!!!! Then I'd retire in the woods somewhere remote, off grid, and disappear from society....
  2. Welcome to the forums On the reading/writing issue, the more you read, the more you will subconsciously learn about writing. A lot of writing is practice too. Just keep writing, even if only for yourself and you'll improve.
  3. I was a fan of the original MLP way way way back in the day. My sister loved barbies, I loved MLP and I even had a movie at one point. Wish I knew where it went. If I could find it today I'd make my sister buy a VHS player and show it to my neice. Still got my MLPs too. I could never consider giving them up. Good luck saving them with a petition.

    Hi.

Welcome to the forums Any favorites?
  5. I'll probably get some dislikes for this, but I thought that Seven Deadly Sins was extremely unoriginal. It reminded me of every other show in its genre with excessively strong characters (both pro and antagonists) with very static personalities. Sure, it catered to its intended audience but it was in no way original. I did greatly enjoy Knights of Sidonia however. .I thought it to be pretty original, well crafted, and enjoyable. It was a great Space Opera. Now, let's take a moment to think. The genre of Seven Deadly is a fighting genre. It has fans that have come to expect certain things (overpowered characters, often extreme personalities, monologues, extreme battles nearly every episode, omnipotent villians, etc). It is a well established genre with many titles (DBZ universe, Fairy Tail, AoT, etc). If you hold to the expectations, you really will have a difficult time being original (not impossible, but harder). Now, Sidonia is a space opera which is not really a major genre. In comparison, they are fairly uncommon. The expectations are typically, space and spaceships, usually major issue (political, war, etc)...annnnnd that's about it. There is quite a bit of leeway with this genre in how the story is constructed which can lead to more variety and originality. Therefore, if you really consider it all, if Netflix targeted more of the smaller genres or subgenres they would likely be able to actually create more "original" shows. That being said, the tried and true fighting genre checklist is an easy way to make money.... who can blame them there? A successful business makes a profit after all.
  6. It sounds as though your favorite magical girl anime has changed over time. I think that's a good thing. For many people, Sailor Moon is the first magical girl anime they think of...the DBZ of Magical Girls. There are lots of series out there and still more to discover yet. There are so many that I have yet to watch even. So...Optic....you believe deep down that Louise the Zero (Familiar of Zero) is a magical girl? Ahhahaha.....I'm not sure many Magical Girls use whips like that....hehe... That being said, I think that the zero to hero transformation is pretty important for the genre too. You know, I still have yet to watch Nanoha. It's been on my list for years but for years I've been....oppressed by my miserable job. Time to make time for new anime again! Summer is almost here!
  7. Surprised no one mentioned Solty Rei. If you don't mind older anime, check out Android Kikaider and Cyborg 009.
  8. There will be plenty you will recognize and enjoy. Basically, from the 70's and onward is mostly what it showcases. That includes sci-fi movies, anime, video games, lots of stuff.
  9. Welcome to the forums. What do you usually podcast about?
  10. Welcome to the forums!
  11. It already exists. It's called Recommendations & Identify. No...usually the "recommend me random stuff. Somehow Google never crossed my mind. By the way, I've seen everything you will recommend or won't like the genre but im not telling you till after you think up your recommendations." is the first or second post. ~sighs~ I don't mind making recommendations but this is not the same era I grew up in. The Internet exists, is extremely fast, and easily accessible and lots of anime info is out there ready for the, "top ten anime of 2017" or "anime similar to Ghost in the Shell" Google search. I'd prefer to help people that have already tried to help themselves first rather than being a repeating static weekly response to a new user that will never make another post after that. When I grew up, the Internet was dialup, Google didn't work so well (I'm not sure it was in existence even then), the Internet wasn't filled with awesome anime sites like today, and just getting lucky enough to bump into someone else who liked anime was rare. You got most of your anime info from tv, anime store sites, trailers on DVDs, and friend's word of mouth. Now and then, completely different times.
  12. It is very good. Lots of stuff you'll recognize and it can be quite funny too. If you are interested, give it a shot. I've gone a few times. We have 5 dollar tickets on Tuesdays so the movies are fairly inexpensive to frequent weekly. I'm an Iron Giant fan so that part definitely satisfied me.
  13. I didn't get any game anime vibes from it. Did enjoy it. That being said, it is supposed to have a ton of Easter eggs and nods to certain shows so I imagine there might be one or two things from it. I'd consider that a compliment to the show if it made a big enough impact for an inclusion.
  14. Report the one you want to delete due to being a duplicate.
  15. If you are looking for a "tragic" anime (emotional doesn't really tell me much), I'd recommend Kanon. It's a harem anime but it is extremely tragic all the way to the end.
  16. Hmm, you know I did consider that too as there are quite a few "male type" magical girls...I feel like I just confused myself. Anyways, Sailor Stars season of Sailor Moon, Cute High Earth Defense Club and some others feature Boys that act like Magical Girls (or turn into Magical Girls?). How do they fit into the big picture or are they something else? It's something I've often pondered, especially with more series like that being produced these days. To me it shows a "superhero's life" I suppose. In most comic books, the crime fighting happens in the evenings, after work (or school), and juggling a normal life with a secret super life is part of the story. For me, I think Magical Girls do mostly the same thing. It might be the age factor where most of the innocence comes from. It's definitely an interesting thought to consider. I think that a large part of Magical Girl stories is friendship (either with another Magical Girl or someone who is very close to the Main), which lends itself to hope...an innocent hope perhaps. Hope is a special feeling that is hard to cast and even more difficult to maintain. You don't see that many anime genres...or much anime at all trying to capture and convey that feeling. Hehe, I kind of expected Madoka to take the lead as well. I have so far abstained from the poll (being the creator) but I would have voted for Cardcaptors and Madoka would still be leading. I have to admit that Madoka is a very good Magical Girl series and it really blows some older assumptions of Magical Girls out of the water. It remains a top recommendation from fans for anyone, regardless of whether they are into Magical Girls or not, which really says something about the versatility of the series' own appeal. I have had the pleasure of meeting and talking to Christine Cabanos (Madoka's English voice actress) on multiple occasions at cons and she always has a large following. She can put a room in awe just reciting her favorite lines from Madoka. One of my best friends is kind of anti-Magical Girl (though she really loves it deep down inside! She has yet to actively dislike one she's seen. I guess she just doesn't see herself as enjoying the genre since she tends to gravitate towards bloody, violent stuff usually lol) and we binge watched Madoka one day and blew her mind with it I liked it enough to slowly purchase it myself but I'm always looking for the next one. I actually got Fate Kalied for Christmas one year and though it took me over a year to get around to watching it (I have a high stress job. You'd think I'd spend my time at home de-stressing but....bleh...), I absolutely loved it! I found it downright comical in some places (those who have seen it know what I'm referring to) but still with that Magical Girl charm of innocence and hope. The tie-in with the rest of the Fate series is a pretty interesting twist too. I have often wondered if the majority of the fans from the Fate series have watched it, or if it just appeals to a different audience altogether (Magical Girl audiences that is...). I'd love to know. I've watched Fate/Stay Night and Fate Kalied but none of the other Fate series. I agree that Fate Kalied should be on any Magical Girl fan's list to watch.
  17. Let me know what you think of it. I really enjoyed it, probably my favorite Slice of Life. I was listing by memory (trying for one anime of each genre) but there are a few other anime in my collection you might not have seen but would enjoy if you are interested.
  18. I think it's the genre. They do a lot of the same things especially as far as moving the plot forward. Drop that genre and try a few different things. Another - horror anime. 12 episodes. Ah! My Goddess - romance anime. Moribito - action with meaning. Psycho-Pass - mystery psychological thriller Selector infected WIXOSS - magical girl card anime, very different and pushes some boundaries Uta no Prince-Sama - reverse harem and a really fun time. I smiled so much Hanayamata - slice of life, good watch, interesting and helps you slow down some without grounding to a halt.
  19. A short (I mean <5 minutes) search on Anime-Planet revealed a whole lot. https://www.anime-planet.com/anime/all?include_tags=107 Browse through it. I love Anime-Planet and their tagging system...makes anime easy to find if you have certain criteria in mind.
  20. That's where I disagree. I actually struggled with myself on it before I decided to put it on the list. I finally decided to do it when I remembered the whole point to playing the game was "to become a magical girl and for your wish to come true..." I do think of it as a non-traditional magical girl anime however. Maybe...what is a Magical Girl anime to you? If it meets your concept, then sure I've never seen that anime but that picture and knowing they're zombies screams Lollipop Chainsaw that was a FUN game!
  21. You so silly I suppose if all you need is Magic.....and girls.... LOL Even I'm not set on a standard definition of what a Magical Girl Anime really entails. What's your definition or general concept? I have a strong inkling that Cardcaptor Sakura was my first Magical Girl series too. I was over the moon excited when I heard they were re-releasing it. Even at $200 for a boxset, I thought that was a steal. Before I was buying individual DVDs as my budget allowed trying to collect the entire series (expensive!). Managed to collect four of them before they announced the re-release. I just absolutely love that series. I have to admit, my excitement and love for Cardcaptor Sakura far exceeds my fondness for Sailor Moon. For my sister...it's probably the other way around lol. I'm not really into super "girly" things either (although I am a woman), but it really doesn't bother me with Magical Girl anime and with my ever increasing age, I find it more a character quirk than anything else. I'm so glad you gave Cardcaptors a chance It really is an awesome anime! I haven't started watching the new series (I wanted to wait for it to come out completely so I could binge it) but I can barely hold myself back!
  22. I have not watched any of those but I might try looking them up sometime. Lately I've fallen in love with the Uta no Prince sama series but my interests vary widely. I'll always be a die-hard Matsumoto fan.
