  1. Doing the 3-ep thing on Sousou no Frieren. This one is definitely going on the post-season to be watched list.
  2. Apparently Terry Glaze is also a fan of Psyche.
  3. “There is nothing new under the sun, but there are new suns.” - Octavia Butler
  4. Catching up on the leaked MSFT docs.. among other crazy bits was the fact that MSFT wants to take over the gaming industry. Ok, that's not news. But they apparently are seriously considering things like buying Nintendo and Steam. As if Activision & Blizzard wasn't bad enough. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUPxytMLWzI
  5. Activated and jumped through the End portal I'd discovered a few days ago. The spawn platform in the End was .. mostly safe. Or at least that's how it seemed at first, covered on 3 sides and the top and open to the void on just one side. I'd put all my gear in an ender chest to avoid zenloss so I put the chest down and was pulling stuff out and formulating a plan when the dragon discovered the one side of the platform that was open and fired off a breath attack. The breath blew up the just-placed chest and left me sitting in a puddle of dragon breath that completely covered the platform, underground, without weapons, without armor.. I hadn't even got my pick out yet. One of those, "well that escalated quickly" kind of situations. I should have at least come through the portal with a handful of bottles. There wasn't much room on the platform but I did manage to avoid the initial blast. If I'd had some bottles to suck up the dragon's breath then I might have been able to clear the blocks of the dragon's breath that I was standing in and at least survived the first attack. I'd still have been underground in the End without weapons or armor tho. Fortunately I hadn't managed to pull out anything valuable when the dragon attacked. I thought I was pretty safe and was kind of taking my time formulating a plan of action when <splat>.
  6. Found another stronghold and End portal in my brother's minecraft realm. One of these days I'm going to have to tackle the dragon but that's something of a major event and I just like goofing off and building stuff. Usually the only reason I even go after the dragon is so I can get elytra and shulker boxes to help with building. While tracking down the stronghold I also found a fissure that disappeared underground, only this one was full of water. (I do like the new terrain gen algos.) If I'd had more time it might have been fun to build a boat and see where it goes. Maybe some other time.
  7. Got a Psyche badge lanyard for the upcoming launch and initial acquisition.
  8. Got a short weekend this week, courtesy of OSIRIS-REx delivering pieces of Bennu to Earth.  24 hours on-call the day before then 10 or so hours on-site Saturday leading up to the reentry of the capsule containing the sample.

    1. Animedragon

      Animedragon

At least it's a short weekend because of something interesting happening.

  9. Interesting mashup choices.. Sabaton's "No Bullets Fly" and "The Princess and the Pilot". If you haven't seen the latter then check it out. Definitely worth it.
  10. Sabaton - Shiroyama Not a huge fan of Saboton in general but I can't help but appreciate a Swedish band that can write a decent English-language Metal song about an important Japanese historical event.
  11. Another pin for “Psyche”. Currently scheduled for launch on October 5.
  12. Mine's in the "about me" section of my profile. I've also posted my job/career info here in the forum a couple/few times the topic has come up. Laziness being one of the 3 programmer virtues I'm not going to repeat that typing here except to say I'm a NASA-badged data systems engineer with a 40 year career in space flight operations behind me.
  13. Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence. Vince Lombardi
  14. Tried out the "Kappa" shader v5.2 in minecraft today. Drives my 6600XT pretty hard but I can still get a solid 60fps. Visually it is working well. As a "raytrace" (path tracing / geometry shading) mod I like it better than SEUS. I especially like what it does with the sky/weather. It tends to make light objects overbright however. Note the lava, the washed-out tower (made of white concrete with glowstone blocks in the 4 corners under the eaves), and the cherry trees that from a distance look a bit like pink lightbulbs in the morning sun. Going to have to tweak the settings a bit. It also makes the nether look pretty creepy. There's a swirling mist effect that doesn't come out well in screenshots but it definitely adds atmosphere to that dimension. The mist's motion is enough to make you wonder if something is really there or if you're just seeing things. <cue creepy music> Sometimes there is, sometimes there isn't.
  15. Happy birthday! Mine is tomorrow so I’m asking myself the same question. Also things like, “who came up with this whole birthday thing anyway?” I suspect it was either the same guy who came up with Mondays or a close associate.
  16. Spent more time than I should have grinding for netherite in minecraft. Finally managed to find and smelt 14 pieces of ancient debris after several hours of tediously - and cautiously! - burrowing through the Nether. Unfortunately that will only get me 3 ingots, which isn't even enough for a full set of armor. Then there's the whole issue of finding and duplicating the upgrade templates for each piece of gear so I can actually apply the netherite to the gear. The upgrade template alone is 7 diamonds each.. beyond the usual amount to craft the actual diamond gear itself. That's to upgrade one item! Netherite gear is a LOT tougher to get in 1.20!
  17. In DanMachi episode 10 there's a sequence that sounds a lot like what you describe except the girl is clothed.
  18. Did the 3-ep thing on The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses. Planning on continuing at the end of the season but I gotta say I already have one complaint about the animation. The dust motes. One of those things that you don't notice right away but once I did I found it very distracting.
  19. Finally got my second zombie villager cured in MC. Mr and Ms Fletcher-Librarian are settled in to their new digs and producing the next generation. I can't tell Mr from Ms but they seem to have figured it out. Now I can build the rest of the dwellings and maybe get some decent trades going at the new town site. btw, I like the new hanging signs.
  20. Not as such. "Patrick Sylvester" is a fictionalised version of Yukio Mishima. Google him.
