Personally I liked it going from cartoonish/comical to badass. This week had some really good stuff, but also somethings that didn’t work well from my POV. Kirishima’s speech to Fatgum at the beginning actually did more to build his character than all of last week IMO. Likewise Rappa actually developed from a standard goon to a character with at least a bit of substance. Seeing what motivates him and the respect he earned for Kirishima (although that means he wants a deathmatch with him later ). Also great to see Toga and Twice get actively involved (hadn’t seen Toga get this psychotic/vicious before). And bringing out how Twice feels responsible for the death & injury if his teammates shows the camaraderie that seems lacking in Overhaul’s group. However, the way they kept jumping around from scene to scene felt out of synch and even the fight choreography didn’t seem to flow very well at times, though it still offer more excitement in a while. The season seems to be improving somewhat anyway, so hopefully they can keep the momentum going.

Just watched the first episode and feeling a bit underwhelmed. Not expecting it to be as epic as Zero, but still felt pretty lightweight even compared to First Order and the prequel episode. Biggest complaint is that it feels like the characters aren’t so much talking to each other as explaining things to the audience. Though I guess that’s to be expected given that they are skipping over scenarios. Biggest appeal at the moment is the character designs for the female characters (don’t judge me ) This is just a first impression though, so will see how things go from here.

Just finished season 2 of Takagi-san. Still pretty episodic but an improvement over last season. And while the payoff was slight, it still brought on the feels 6.5/10 Next title off the backlog pile: Carole & Tuesday.

Though the creator’s comments on this probably being the last movie along with some of the scenes in the last trailer makes me wonder what they have planned going forward.

I’ve noticed a significant increase as well. While I realize the site needs a source of income to stay running, I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t annoying, especially the pop-ups (I’m viewing the site in my phone as well.

I was actually fairly impressed by Hazbin Hotel especially from a visual & OST standpoint. I’m not really a subscriber to the being edgy is the same as being funny philisophy, but given that it takes place in hell there’s at least some justification for it. And have to admit some of Angel Dust’s quips actually made me chuckle. And Alastor seems like a completely skeevy arch villain. Plus Charlie’s optimism makes me think there could be at least some heart under all the profanity & sex/drug jokes. Can’t say the same for Helluvaboss. Pretty much entirely “certain people will be offended so that automatically makes it funny”. Seems like it will be pretty episodic too. To be fair, I think it’s at least better quality than Invader Zim (though that’s not exactly high praise from me) Doubt I’ll follow this one because would probably get tedious quickly for me

Even though the focus of this week was supposed to be Red Riot, the high point for me was the reveal of the other aspect of Fatgum’s quirk which took me completely by surprise I think he’s my favorite of the new characters. But to this point I still don’t feel like the fights have been as exciting as I’d come to expect from this series. Hopefully that will change once they confront Overhaul face to face.

So the final episode of the season was largely dedicated to recapping how far Senku’s kingdom of science had advanced with some funny & inspirational moments thrown in. Of course the imminent battle with Tuskasa’s followers will have to wait till next season, though we at least got confirmation there will be one. My overall feelings: felt like it was overhyped initially, but started enjoying it more once the village arc started, through where they learn about Senku’s “dad” (episodes 7 - 17). But felt the final stages were kind of a stretch Still curious about how the big fight will go down, but will wait for season 2 rather than read the manga. Would rank it 7.5/10, but still in my top 10 of 2019.
