  1. Genre: Slice-of-Life, Subgenre: Iyashikei (healing) Characteristics: low conflict/drama. calm. overall sense of wellbeing Examples: My Roommate is a Cat, Yuru Camp, Aria, Natsume’s Book of Friends, Flying Witch While I certainly enjoy exciting anime series, IRL I prefer things to be calm. I’m not really an ambitious person, don’t crave fame or fortune. I have a hard time envisioning myself as a hero or villain. Same goes for a “romantic lead”, and even with harem series there’s usually only one (or 2 at the most) characters that have any sort of appeal for me. My Roommate is a Cat is probably the series I can best identify with at present. I see a lot of simillar traits with the MC and even in his living conditions, both my parents having passed recently and living alone except with a dog instead of a cat . The main differences in this anime world being that there’s the sense that everything will work out allright, which is something I struggle with IRL.
  2. The explanation I’ve seen offered on Filo’s behavior is that she is more of an “animal” than Raphtalia, making it harder for her to suppress her instincts. For example, her hatred of dragons is actually a natural trait of her species and is hardwired into the primal part of her brain
  3. Don't know the official answer but my best guesses: a) they're the slime equivalent of rubber duckies b) Rimuru underwent cytokinesis c) some wild slimes decided to crash the party (like those red face snow monkeys)
  4. He certainly dosn’t seem to miss his old life any, though he’s used his knowledge of otaku culture to his benefit at times. The thing that gets to me though is that he got all excited about meeting female elves for the first time in that one ep. But now he’s hanging out in a hot spring with nekkid Shion, Millim & ogre priestess and doesn’t even seem to notice. He’s definitely not a normal “guy” anymore
  5. Like Beocat, I was never able to get into Naruto, but I would second her reccomendation of Fairy Tail and add Black Clover. There’s an older ninja shonen called Flame of Recca, but if you don’t like older animation it may not be for you. There’s also Basilisk, but it’s darker and more violent. Some other possibilities: Inuyasha, Hunter x Hunter, Soul Eater, Ushio & Tora and My Hero Academia. Hopefully you’ll find something you enjoy.
  6. It’s been awhile since I watched it, but I seemed to remember them sort of having a Joker/Harley type relationship (her being obsessed with him & him using her to further his plans)
  7. Yeah that was just sloppy writing, and completely unnecessary (just seeing her get swallowed oughta be enough to freak him out). This isn't Attack on Titan afterall  Hopefully he's not going to have to keep cleaning up messes left by the other "heroes". Kinda expect it from Spear Hero, but not the others so much Thanks on the comment on the gif. I saw it while searching for an image I could use as an avatar on another site and decided to incorporate it here (for a while anyway)

    Manga vs Anime

As far as my actual behavior it’s pretty one-sided: I’ve watched HUNDREDS of anime series, but have only read probably less than twenty manga series. From an analytical POV, it really depends. If a series is more action oriented, anime tends to do a better job of reflecting that. If the emphasis is on character development or psycological, manga usually does a better job. Of course, I think there are more things that can go wrong with an anime adaption. With manga, your own mind supplies the voices. With anime, if the voice doesn’t suit the character or doesn’t seem to reflect the proper mood, it makes it harder to enjoy. Likewise, poor animation quality can be distracting. Though I do find anime’s ability to add music can make scenes more emotive. Finally, anime adaptions are more expensive to produce, so if there is a lot of source material, it has to achieve a higher degree of popularity to continue the story. In all honesty, I rarely bother with manga anymore, though I do have some interest in Visual Novels.
  9. Thoughts after watching episode 21: As much as I enjoy this show, they really do make things too easy for the protagonist, not just by making him OP and able to win the trust of others with ease. But also by the series of "coincidences" that always seem to present a solution (his luck attribute must be through the roof )
  10. Not officially, due largely to Ash being too dense
  11. If we’re including ships I’m 2nding Ash & Misty and adding Deku & Uravity from My Hero Academia
  12. Kaoru Hanabishi & Aoi Sakuraba from Ai Yori Aoshi i and of course these two
  13. It just makes you smile a lot and chuckle occasionally. And when the episode is over you feel relaxed. Haven’t heard the dub though.
  14. I thoroughly enjoyed MHA seasons 1 & 2, but thought season 3 was inconsistent. Eagerly awaiting season 4 this fall. Never really understood the appeal of that franchise myself. Finally dropped it altogether during Alicization
  15. And his in-game avatar is a cartoon pig  And if we're including Louise the Zero, should also probably include Akko from Little Witch Academia. Though in the titles I mentioned in earlier posts, the characters really don't grow or improve all that much (the guy from NHK a litlle, but lots of setbacks along the way and still has plenty of issues)
  16. High winds have been knocking out power to a lot of people in the area, but mine are still on <knock on wood>
  17. I honestly have no interest in the novels since it's mainly fans of the novels complaining about the anime which I'm enjoying.
  18. Hmm, maybe I’m misunderstanding something but I can think of several SoL that would seem to fit: Haganai, Asobi Asobase & Chio’s School Road all feature characters that are widely treated as outcasts by their peers and show little to no growth. I would even be tempted to include Konosuba since the main quartet are together pretty much because no one else wants them in their party, and even when they do something heroic, something inevitably happens to keep their reputations from improving
  19. Well I could suggest Dimension W since that's actually one of the characters name  For an actual suggestion maybe try Welcome to the NHK
  20. Ditto as far as how I found out about this place. Previously I had only discussed anime on another smaller scale site where I was a member for about 10 years. Unfortunately activity has been declining for several years as the original company (Anime Nation) went out of business. Rightstuf took over sponsoring but unfortunately they decided to pull the plug recently. Fortunately some members started a Patreon account to keep things going and I still check it out some. But activity has really dropped off so I started searching for alternatives. I post some on MAL and CR but don’t really care for the types of fans active on those sites and the toxic environment they tend to create. So this site has become my primary Social Media resource (I don’t even do Facebook or Reddit ) I also check out ANN to keep current on what’s going on in the industry, but don’t care for the community.
  21. I haven't read any of the novels so I don't have any definitive knowledge of what's coming, but I have some expectations based on the OP & ED. I'm guessing there will be at least one more big fight since the OP showed some evil looking characters who haven't appeared yet (one of them looked like a girl with butterfly wings and another like some sort of golem(?) ). As far as the kids, the ED shows them in a very happy/carefree light, so at the very least I don't expect any of them to die. I doubt Rimuru will confront Shizu's summoner this season though. Likewise I don't expect things to be resolved with the demon lord who used the harlequins to manipilate Geld & Phobio. If the 10 minutes you saw were from the beginning, it really isn't indicative of the series overall tone. I can totally understand not being in any hurry to watch it though if you have other ones that interest you. While I find it enjoyable overall, I wouldn't call it a "must see" (probably #3 or #4 of my currently watching list but unlikely to break into my all-time favorites.
  22. Thought I would give this thread a bump since it seems like the series is shifting gears away from the OP character defeats supposedly major enemy with ease and gains new allies formula. I thought it really worked well with the Orc Lord, but was getting kinda stale with Millim & Charybdis. Looks like Rimuru is finally trying to resolve some of Shizue’s unfinished business & we finally know how the kids in the ED fit into things.
  23. I definitely thought they would at least dedicate an entire episode to it , instead of splitting it with the obligatory hot springs ep, though they did tie it together with Raphtalia & Filo’s competitiveness to prove who’s most useful. Fans of the source material keep saying there’s some really dark stuff coming. While I certainly wouldn’t mind them taking things a bit more seriously, I really hope they don’t go overboard with it since alternating between extremes tend to make series less enjoyable, for me at least.
