  1. Finished up the 2nd couer earlier today. Pretty predictable and it got kinda heavyhanded with it’s “message”, but I still found it enjoyable enough. And I liked a lot of the songs (especially the main duo’s).
  2. For me a lot of the show’s appeal was it’s cast of characters you can’t help but grow attached to. I haven’t played the games, but am curious if you’ve seen the Steins Gate 0 anime or the movie (Load Region of Deja Vu) and if so what you thought of them. Also I understand the series Robitics Notes & Chaos Head take place in the same “universe”, though I haven’t watched either.
  3. Started watching the rebroadcast/edit of Re:ZERO and think I’m going to enjoy it. The interactions between Subaru & Kazuma in Isekai Quartet already seem funnier after seeing how similar they really are. Though Subaru seems like a genuinely nice guy & Kazuma ... not so much And Puck is already one of my favorite mascot characters Have to say the shift in tone was pretty jarring though even with the foreshadowing of the opening scene. Like on the same level as Higurashi. Only up to the equivalent of episode 2 of season 1, but already seems like it will be a wild ride. Edit: apparently the 1st episode was double length to begin with. Future episodes are supposed to be 2 at a time so they can finish before season 2 starts in April
  4. It maybe a new year & a new decade, but pretty much just another day in the life for me 😂

Off work so doing some household chores & watching anime. Appropriately finished the 2nd couer of Carol & Tuesday and watching the edit/rebroadcast of RE:Zero

Next week will probably be when I feel exhausted. Trying to make it through a full work week after 2 short weeks.

  5. Personally I tried watching that one and don’t get the appeal. Of course humor is highly subjective IMO, which is why I listed so many.
  6. I order from them 3 or 4 times a year & have never had any complaints.
  7. Ban does some embarrassing things to Jericho, but at least she responds by getting pissed off by it. Elizabeth is clearly embarrassed and uncomfortable, but never gets mad about it.
  8. Mixed feelings for me. Storyline seems fairly typical shonen fare though I would still rate it slightly above average. The action sequences and fights are well animated and are one of the series strongest points. As far as the characters, I like most of them (Ban & Escanor are personal faves). But I have a genuine dislike for Gowther. And then there are the 2 leads: Melodias & Elizabeth. Individually they’re not that bad, but I just find their interactions outside of the stereotypical rescues, it pretty much consists of Melodias shoving his head under her skirt & her responding with “Oh, you <tee, hee>”. In close to 40 years of watching anime, I’m no stranger to fanservice & ecchiness and even find it entertaining at times. But the brainlessness of these repeated scenes and the fact that the viewer is supposed to see them as a genuinely romantic couple is just insulting. Overall rating probably a 6.5/10
  9. I’m not familiar with the game, but watching these oddball side series after the epicness of Fate Zero has been a disappointing experience. I doubt I’ll continue FGOADFB unless I get really desperate in the upcoming season. Back on topic
  10. Some anime of the decade results per polls/viewership data from Funimation & CR. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2019-12-31/funimation-reveals-results-of-decade-of-anime-fan-polls/.154809 https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2019-12-31/crunchyroll-reveals-most-watched-anime-of-the-decade-by-region/.154915 Funi’s results are much more in tune with my personal tastes.
  11. Gusting winds for the past 2 days. Along with temps in the 30s (F), makes it damm unpleasant to go outside. But at least it’s not snowing/raining.
  12. Akiba’s Trip - parodies various otaku interests As Miss Beelzebub Likes - cuteness hell Asobi Asobase - the anti-CGDCT Cautious Hero - some serious turns towards the end Dokoida - superhero parody Gamers - romantic misunderstandings between characters who are kinda jerks Kaguya-sama: Love is War - CHIKA Kemono Michi - same writer as Konosuba. Some furry humor (scene with the cerberus is only part I wish I could unsee) Kenichi the Mightiest Disciple - MC wants to learn martial arts so he won’t be bullied, soon finds himself in over his head Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi - parodies various genres. Some serious developments towards the end Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid - dragons & humans learning to co-exist Rune Soldier - mage in training prefers adventuring & brawling to studying Slayers - fantasy adventure with a good deal of slapstick School Rumble - slice of life with a large cast with the emphasis on romantic misunderstandings Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun - MC is adopted by demon, tries to keep fact that he’s human secret from classmates

  15. Just finished episode 24. This series was an absolute masterpiece, so much so that I’m actually reconsidering what my #1 for the year will be. As great as Kimetsu no Yaiba was, there were times it irritated me. At one point it was even questionable whether I would finish it. Vinland Saga has been a quality piece of work from the beginning. The only possible criticisms I might have are it’s certainly not a “feel good” story & the supposed MC isn’t really likable. Though a lot if that can be attributed to him still being a “stupid kid” as Askeladd puts it. It is still possible he may learn from his past mistakes. Which brings up the point that the past 24 episodes have apparently just been a “prologue” as the final episode’s title implies. Along with some of the cryptic final scenes, I have hope for a 2nd season. I don’t mind if it takes awhile just so they continue to do a quality job.
  16. Just saw Rise of Skywalker and despite my skepticism, was reasonably happy with how it all turned out. At least now I can break my ties to the franchise on a positive note. I think it’s hilarious how for the last 2 movies the opinions for the critics & the audience are pretty much the opposite. Some reassurance that the public at large isn’t buying into the industry’s bs about the type of movies they should enjoy.
  17. Finished the 1st cour of Carole & Tuesday. Despite being predictable, I found it to be surprisingly enjoyable especially since I’m not actually a fan of idol dramas. Now I just need to watch the 2nd cour before the new season’s shows start.
  18. The focus this week was on Le Million vs Overhaul. In addition to his quirk, Overhaul’s tactic to manipulate people’s emotions in order to “break them down”. Making Eri stay with him by telling her it’s her fault when others get hurt & using the threat of Eri getting injured to make Mirio vulnerable. It’s implied that his quirk may be gone for good, but he may at least survive since Deku/Eraserhead/Nighteye all arrived. I don’t know, despite the fact that he’s supposed to be an important character, he never really clicked with me. They also seemed to use a lot of still-shots during the fight, which took away a lot of the excitement. Anyway, guess we’ll see how Midoriya fares against Overhaul next week.

  21. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a goodnight.

  22. Spent a pleasant afternoon with family with temps actually making it into the 60s and made plans to see Rise of Skywalker with them over the weekend. The kids were the main focus for gifts of course. No big meal but lots of snacking throughout the day. And watched the original Grinch and Rudolph while there. Just finished watching the finale to Ascendence of a Bookworm. Took a bit of a darker turn, but ended on a positive note. Definitely one of the better series of the year and looking forward to season 2 in 2020. I have work tomorrow, so off to bed. Hope everyone here had an enjoyable day as well.
  23. Agreed 100% I do some very limited posting over on Crunchyroll’s forums (primarily the seasonal & annual series awards threads some subscribers do) but it doesn’t have the feel of community like here . Other than that, I’m not active anywhere else.
