Just finished episode 24. This series was an absolute masterpiece, so much so that I’m actually reconsidering what my #1 for the year will be. As great as Kimetsu no Yaiba was, there were times it irritated me. At one point it was even questionable whether I would finish it. Vinland Saga has been a quality piece of work from the beginning. The only possible criticisms I might have are it’s certainly not a “feel good” story & the supposed MC isn’t really likable. Though a lot if that can be attributed to him still being a “stupid kid” as Askeladd puts it. It is still possible he may learn from his past mistakes. Which brings up the point that the past 24 episodes have apparently just been a “prologue” as the final episode’s title implies. Along with some of the cryptic final scenes, I have hope for a 2nd season. I don’t mind if it takes awhile just so they continue to do a quality job.

Just saw Rise of Skywalker and despite my skepticism, was reasonably happy with how it all turned out. At least now I can break my ties to the franchise on a positive note. I think it’s hilarious how for the last 2 movies the opinions for the critics & the audience are pretty much the opposite. Some reassurance that the public at large isn’t buying into the industry’s bs about the type of movies they should enjoy.

Finished the 1st cour of Carole & Tuesday. Despite being predictable, I found it to be surprisingly enjoyable especially since I’m not actually a fan of idol dramas. Now I just need to watch the 2nd cour before the new season’s shows start.

The focus this week was on Le Million vs Overhaul. In addition to his quirk, Overhaul’s tactic to manipulate people’s emotions in order to “break them down”. Making Eri stay with him by telling her it’s her fault when others get hurt & using the threat of Eri getting injured to make Mirio vulnerable. It’s implied that his quirk may be gone for good, but he may at least survive since Deku/Eraserhead/Nighteye all arrived. I don’t know, despite the fact that he’s supposed to be an important character, he never really clicked with me. They also seemed to use a lot of still-shots during the fight, which took away a lot of the excitement. Anyway, guess we’ll see how Midoriya fares against Overhaul next week.

Spent a pleasant afternoon with family with temps actually making it into the 60s and made plans to see Rise of Skywalker with them over the weekend. The kids were the main focus for gifts of course. No big meal but lots of snacking throughout the day. And watched the original Grinch and Rudolph while there. Just finished watching the finale to Ascendence of a Bookworm. Took a bit of a darker turn, but ended on a positive note. Definitely one of the better series of the year and looking forward to season 2 in 2020. I have work tomorrow, so off to bed. Hope everyone here had an enjoyable day as well.

Agreed 100% I do some very limited posting over on Crunchyroll’s forums (primarily the seasonal & annual series awards threads some subscribers do) but it doesn’t have the feel of community like here . Other than that, I’m not active anywhere else.

@Tv-Crimes I was actually going to post that one (I lovez me some cheeze at Christmas) I found several AMVs featuring it, but none that really got my attention. Welp, off to my sister’s, but will check in later tonight. Definitely watching the final 2 episodes of Ascendence of a Bookworm before turning in for the night.

I’m all caught up now. This Sunday is supposed to be the final episode so curious to see what kind of note it ends on. Kimetsu no Yaiba is still my #1 of 2019, but this will be #2 or #3.

Not really willing to die to test that theory out -_-; -

Resumed watching this yesterday and caught up through episode 18. I’m considering it the best of the season and one of the top for 2019.

It wasn’t just the action, the way they kept switching between groups and present/past made the second half feel like a jumbled mess in a lot ways. Overhaul’s quirk let’s him take things apart and put them back together or alter them. Apparently that include body parts/organs. So he can inflict lethal damage but then repair it afterwards (if he chooses too). Someone having that level of control over whether you live or die would have to be intimidating. There have to be limitations to his quirk, but they haven’t revealed them yet (I assume he would need to “repair” the damage fairly quickly to keep someone alive)

What controversies are dividing the anime community
Ohayotaku replied to SeinenViewer's topic in Anime Discussion
Pretty much any fandom has these sort of issues (what’s currently going on with Star Wars for example). For the most part I try not to pay too much attention to them. I have my own opinions/tastes and find it easier to interact some people of course, but anime (and the larger medium of animation in my case) is so varied I have to believe there’s something to suit everyone. -
Can’t honestly think of anything that checks all your boxes (especially the length) but will toss out some that might entertain you awhile. Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer) - a boys mother & siblings are slaughtered by demons and his surviving sister is no longer entirely human as a result. He sets out on a quest to try and change her back. Awesomely animated fight sequences with some scenes of extreme violence. However some of the supporting characters have very silly (cartoonish at times) characteristics. I fully expected to hate that aspect, but it won me over regardless. Only 26 episodes so far and the continuation will be a movie. Not sure where things will go from there. The Promised Neverland - a group of children isolated from the outside world learn a sinister secret about the orphanage they live in. Some very dark themes and imagery. The main characters are all children, but that actually makes it feel more tense. Season 1 (12 episodes) is more psychological than anything but may have more action next season (not till October 2020 unfortunately) Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress - zombie apocalypse in an Eastern steampunk setting. I got a kind of AOT vibe from it. Only 12 episodes & a movie sequel unfortunately. Not sure if there will be more or not.

Personally I liked it going from cartoonish/comical to badass. This week had some really good stuff, but also somethings that didn’t work well from my POV. Kirishima’s speech to Fatgum at the beginning actually did more to build his character than all of last week IMO. Likewise Rappa actually developed from a standard goon to a character with at least a bit of substance. Seeing what motivates him and the respect he earned for Kirishima (although that means he wants a deathmatch with him later ). Also great to see Toga and Twice get actively involved (hadn’t seen Toga get this psychotic/vicious before). And bringing out how Twice feels responsible for the death & injury if his teammates shows the camaraderie that seems lacking in Overhaul’s group. However, the way they kept jumping around from scene to scene felt out of synch and even the fight choreography didn’t seem to flow very well at times, though it still offer more excitement in a while. The season seems to be improving somewhat anyway, so hopefully they can keep the momentum going.
