  1. Welcome Glad you found your way here. I grew up on a farm myself, though I live in town now. I saw where you mentioned canning in another post, I remember that being a summer family activity with my parents & sister, filling up the whole basement with green beans, tomatoes & homemade pickles to last the rest of the year. Definitely good memories of happier days. I don’t really buy merch either, though I have a pretty large collection of anime on disc I’ve collected over the years. But like you mentioned, there’s so much out there I don’t really have time to rewatch series (I’m currently watching 14 weekly series). As far as recommendations, I’ll start off with My Hero Academia. Anyway, hope you enjoy yourself here.
  2. We Never Learn is better than Quintessential Quintuplets. Fight me
  3. <sigh> I knew just from the OP/ED and his brief appearance during Final Selection that the blond haired kid was going to be the biggest obstacle to me staying with this series. Not just his cowardice, but good god man, Brock from Pokemon has more dignity around women. I have no doubt he will grow eventually, but I doubt it will be any time soon and he’s currently so annoying I just don’t know. I’m a bit interested in boar guy, though it seems like he’ll be pretty over the top. I do like the design for the new demon though.
  4. Welcome! New members are always a good thing My top five from the current season would be: Dororo, Attack on Titan, Shield Hero, Fruits Basket & Isekai Quartet. All time favorites include: Cowboy Bebop, My Hero Academia, Azumanga Daioh, Yuru Camp, & A Place Further Than The Universe. Hope you’ll stick around.
  5. Welcome, glad you found this place I joined these forums because the activity on my one old one had been declining for quite a while, and it quickly became my new favorite. People here are really easy to talk to. You say XXXholic is your favorite anime, do you like any other CLAMP series (Cardcaptor Sakura, Magic Knight Rayearth, Kobato, etc.)? Some recommendations for series similar to XXXholic would be: The Ancient Magus Bride, The Morose Monokean, Mushishi, Midnight Occult Civil Servants & Beautiful Bones. For the record, Beautiful Bones doesn’t deal with the supernatural, but the two MCs remind me of Yuko & Kimihiro Anyway, hopefully you find enough things that interest you to stick around.
  6. Probably Battle Angel Alita, because I refuse to believe it was Love Hina
  7. ^ This is probably my Pleasant Surprise series of 2019 despite being a lifelong dog person. There was a particular poignancy for me as my own parent’s passed away in recent years and currently it’s just me and my 12 year old yellow lab and like Subaru I’ve always been an introvert. Seeing Subaru come to terms with his grief and gradually become more comfortable with social interactions was very reassuring. And Haru is adorable of course while still bringing a distinctive “cat” perspective and attitude towards the situations. And I ship Subaru & Okami.
  8. Woke up in the 40’s again this morning, but at least the sun is shining today. I need to do this when I get home this evening since they’re predicting rain for the weekend.
  9. I didn’t enjoy this week’s ep as much as the past couple because it seemed to require a more detailed understanding of ReZero. I wish they had introduced Vanir earlier & personally I would have preferred Wiz to Kris. With only 2 eps left, I wonder how they will wrap things up.
  10. Sorry I haven’t made any episode specific comments in a couple weeks, but everytime I start it turns into an unwieldy ramble. This series really gets me worked up because there are aspects I really like, but also one that drive me into a rant  Currently my #3 seed for the season behind Dororo and Attack on Titan.
  11. Crunchyroll put up a special episode of School (Gakuen) Babysitters (a surprisingly cute & sweet series from last year) yesterday. The main story focusing on mid-terms was adorable, but it was the short Snow White reimagining at the end that really made me smile since I totally ship Ryuji & tsundere girl

  12. ADV promoted the heck out of Excel Saga when it came out, and I remember they had to change Excel’s english VA partway through because she damaged her vocal cords doing her voice.
  13. I have that one on dvd around here somewhere. Yeah, ranks right up there with Akikan for weird ecchi comedies.
  14. There’s an obscure scifi title called Geneshaft that takes the female vs male society concept of Vandread but takes the story more seriously and with less ecchiness. Another obscure scifi mecha series I enjoyed quite a bit was Str.A.In (Strategic Armored Infantry). I’d also mentioned a shonen title called Buso Renkin not many people seem to have watched. It takes the basic fantasy elements of the Philosopher’s Stone and homunculi but does something completely different from FMA. The male & female MCs remind me of Ichigo & Rukia from Bleach but I found it more enjoyable. I’ve mentioned (Louie the) Rune Soldier a couple times as a comedic parody of the fantasy D&D genre that doesn’t get the recognition that Slayers did but was actually funnier/more enjoyable IMO. Finally, I enjoyed R.O.D TV enjoyable as well. It actually is a sequel to the OVA series, but you don’t see how it fits together until the half-way point. And the tv series us more cerebral than tge OVA which puts most of the emphasis on action.
  15. I never actually finished Darker than Black, but based on my memories and the synopsis here are some possibilities (most are older series) Eden of the East Big O Hakata Tonkatsu Ramens Dimension W Black Lagoon C : Control Noir Madlax La Cazadore de la Bruja Gunslinger Girl Speedgrapher
  16. Thanks for the follow 😁

I actually haven’t “followed” anyone yet. I don’t react to posts as often as I probably should either. Blame it on the fact I’m not normally a social media person. No Facebook, Twitter or Reddit account, just a couple other otaku interest forums, that I rarely post on. This place is clearly my “online home”. I’ll try to do better.

Nice, It’s mine too. I don’t really do FB or anything else.

  17. I doubt I’ll be changing my vote but agree that AOT3’s final(?) cour has done an excellent job of taking advantage of nostalgia for the series early episodes while at the same time expanding its worldview.
  18. <raises hand> watched it last night. The Valentines Day double “date” between Kyo/ Kagura and Yuki/Tohru was cute as expected. But must admit I’m a bit perplexed and uneasy about Shigure’s comments. Edit: just to clarify
  19. Just got home from seeing the appropriately named Dark Phoenix. Actually gave Logan a run for it’s money despite being PG-13. I enjoyed it, but definitely won’t be taking the nephews.

    1. VampireKnight19

      VampireKnight19

I really want to go and see it. My brother went without me lol

  20. Just finished Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. With just 12 episodes so far there are still plenty of unanswered questions, but I still enjoyed it. Plus i understand that a movie continuing the story just came out in Japan so hopefully it will be available here eventually. Think I’ll give Sword Oratoria another try next since Danmachi has a new season next month.
  21. I voted for Dororo. It follows the quest of a young man to regain his physical body which his father traded away to a group of demons in exchange for prosperity for his territory. It paints a much more complex picture of ethics and morality than in many other anime, because the closer he comes to succeeding, the more catastrophe and suffering befalls the citizens & in order to defeat the demons he must resort to an “inhuman” level of violence and rage. The series has it’s shortcomings as the writing can seem a bit awkward at times and humor is in short supply but it still stands out as something special and the title character is actually an orphaned thief who accompanies the MC provides some much need optimism. I’m really enjoying Shield Hero as well, but it can annoy me at times as well. Plus, I’m certain that not all the loose ends will be wrapped up this year, whereas it seems like Dororo will reach it’s finale by the end of the month. Fruits Basket is another contender, but again I’m fairly certain it will need to carryover into 2020 and possibly beyond. On the lighter side I prefer We Never Learn which has a lot of similarities, but feels more like an oldschool harem anime. Plus the characters have developed enough now that it feels like each of them have a distinctive relationship to the male lead, making me more invested in them. It’s also pretty funny with a fair amount of fanservice without being as blatant as some other recent series. And of course Isekai Quartet is another fun series I’m really enjoying.
  22. I missed out, but just wanted state that Lucoa is indeed “impressive”, but I prefer this dragon girl
