  1. Wonder if you might mistakenly be thinking of Rory Mercury from Gate
  2. I think a lot of people were expecting it to be edgier and darker. Personally, I don’t mind that it’s not all bitterness and betrayal. I actually have a bit of trouble seeing it as a harem, I mean Goblinslayer had more ladies interested in him (Cowgirl, Priestess, High Elf, Guild Girl, Sword Maiden)
  3. It has it’s enjoyable elements, but can be frustrating as well. The biggest probelm I have is it makes it way too easy for the MC to overcome whatever obstacles he’s facing. And the final arc was too rushed, even though it seems like it’s pivotal in what happens next. If you watch through the end of episode 14 you saw the best of it IMO (and I actually was satisfied with how they wrapped up the Orc Lord arc). The rest of it largely seemed like unrealized potential. I’d give it a 7 out of 10. If you’re looking for a fantasy isekai, I think Shield Hero is more engaging, though it has it’s shortcomings as well.
  4. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2019-03-17/that-time-i-got-reincarnated-as-a-slime-tv-anime-gets-2nd-season/.144657 Not really a surprise it's getting a second season. Personally, I hope they start out with maybe trying to elaborate more on the first season's final arc (Shizue's students) because it felt really rushed.
  5. I went back and rewatched the first 3 episodes of the current Gegege no Kitaro series since it looks like the Nanashi/Mana storyline is reaching it's climax after the past year. I didn't realize (or forgot) that it was Neko-musume (Cat-chick) who told Mana how to contact Kitaro.
  6. Only the first one, not the sequel(s). I would probably need to rewatch it since it’s been awhile. How about ‘What Dreams May Come’ and ‘The Lovely Bones’?
  7. MHA is confirmed for season 4 in October. Shield Hero season 1 is listed for 25 episodes so it will continue until the end of June. Who knows how far along in the story it will be by then.
  8. One more: Live Action Adaptions that: rely heavily on CGI and have performers who seem less talented than the VAs and look less like the characters than your average cosplayer. I really do wonder what the point is (and I’m not even referring to attempts to adapt it to an american audience)
  9. 1) Titles keep getting longer and more awkward sounding, usually necessitating some sort of abbreviation to refer to them (Konosuba, Watamote, Danmachi, etc.) 2) The recent glut of isekai and OPMC titles. Related to that, copying story elements even when it doesn’t make sense to do so. For example: being able to pull up a status screen makes sense in series like Hack, SAO & Overlord where the MC is trapped in a game or VR. But it doesn’t really seem to fit in series like Shield Hero where it was a book or Reincarnated as a Slime where he’s murdered (Great Sage sounds and acts exaclty like some sort of game tutorial)
  10. Beautiful Bones definitely needed a continuation since it was revealed there was a “mastermind” behind several of the cases just before it ended. I would also like to see Princess Resurrection & Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero be continued. Finally, I’ve mentioned this before, but Battle Angel Alita definitely deserved more than the 2 episode OVA it got.

  12. So, waaay back in December I tried to order something through Funimation’s online store but kept getting error messages. I emailed them about it and got a generic ‘we’re aware of the problem and working on a solution’ response. Today I get an email saying they’ve fixed the problem. Nice to know, but needless to say I’d conpletely forgotten about it

Hopefully, it arrives. I never ordered anything from FUNimation’s store. I always ordered from either Amazon or Rightstuf.

They said I would have to re-order but they would match the sales price from when I tried to place the order earlier. But I’ve already got it somewhere else. Price is usually the biggest factor in where I order from.

Kind of a weird sidenote: a couple times I’ve ordered things from Sentai’s website, but the package arrived with Rightstuf listed as the shipper

Could have happened because Rightstuf is used to fulfill the order, which is something not new.

  13. Agreed. I definitely find it more enjoyable the longer it goes on. I even find the sillier moments more enjoyable and am really hyped that it looks like the cour will end with an epic confrontation (guess it’s actually the third wave since the heroes weren’t summoned until after the first one.)
  14. Welcome. Don't mind the social awkwardness thing, it's not really that unusual. Members here are really accepting and easy to talk to.
  15. Welcome. And I'll be 50 later this year, Nice to find a site with nontypical anime fans isn't it? For all the talk of anime becoming more "main stream", I still find it easier to discuss and share online than IRL. Members here seem really accepting and easy to talk to. I've been a member here for less than a year, but already consider it to be an online "home". Hope you come to feel the same.
  16. Welcome. Hope you enjoy your time with this community, I know I do. I first got into anime when I was in gradeschool back in the the late 70's or early 80's with Star Blazers (the Americanized edit of Space Battleship Yamato) and also the Galaxy Express 999 movie. Both just stood out from the usual "cartoons" that were on tv at the time, both visually and in the topics they addressed. I didn't really get into non-edited anime until the 90's with series like Ranma 1/2, Tenchi Muyo, Irresponsible Captain Tylor & Slayers. My overall favorite anime would be Cowboy Bebop which really seems to be unique to me even after all these years. Some other "classics" for me include: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Azumanga Daioh, Magic Knight Rayearth, & Cardcaptor Sakura. More recent favorites include My Hero Academia, Ushio & Tora, A Place Further than the Universe, Yuru Camp, My Roommate is a Cat and Rising of the Shield Hero. My manga exposure is much more limited, favorites being: Battle Angel Alita, Oh My Goddess & Yotsuba. I would like to recommend the Alita manga to everyone, even if you weren't impress by the recent live action movie. While I can make general recommendations for series, I prefer to have an idea of the sorts of anime a person enjoys/is looking for. Again, welcome.
  17. 1) My Hero Academia & Trigun because both series take themes/concepts that are popular in non-anime works but put the unique spin on them that give them the larger feel of what anime is all about. Some others I would recommend to people who really don't have a history with anime are Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood & Big O. 2) Afraid I don't really have a response to this one. I'm pretty happy with the timing of when I decided to watch various series.
  18. On some level I'm wondering if it's even possible for the heroes to actually go back, or if the royals/nobles just told them that to get them to fight for them. As far as Raphtalia going to Naofumi's world, kinda doubt it's possible and wonder if she did would she remain a demi-human or not. It's just a theory at this point, but I'm wondering if the "waves" aren't actually an attempt by another dimension to invade or absorb the one Naofumi's been summoned to (kinda like the 2nd season of Rayearth). The monsters they fought in previous waves might've just been grunts/cannonfodder. That evil looking woman could be some sort of General or Champion from this other dimension who's going to get personally involved this time around.
  19. I have to say that I’m rather disappointed in the way they handled the arc with Shizue’s students and how they decided to end the main story. The final 2 episodes are scheduled to be side stories, one focusing on Veldora and the other on Shizue. While both characters could certainly use more exploration, I still can’t help but feel the time would be better spent filling out the main story better.
  20. Thoughts after watching episode 10: After some of the lighter moments over the past couple episodes, this week stayed really busy putting the focus back on the larger story. I'm glad the series will carry over into the new season come April, though there may be a week break.
  21. If we're gonna have a topic dedicated to anime OPs, then we need one for EDs too, right Here's a couple of mine (and they couldn't be more stylistically different)
  22. I wound up voting fantasy & shonen, though to be honest I don't feel it's really an accurate reflection of my tastes. Ever since I started streaming anime I've been more open to exploring different genres (all you have to do is look at the list I posted under "What ongoing series are you watching?" or my MAL and how I ranked them to see that. Plus, it's not always easy to define where a series falls (Is Ancient Magus Bride fantasy or supernatural? Is A Place Further than the Universe slice-of-life or adventure? etc,) Bottom line is it's hard for me to define what I like, but I recognize it when I see it
  23. Yeah, this sounds more like a reimagineing instead of a sequel EDIT: After rewatching the video, maybe it is a sequel. Too bad there weren’t any subtitles. Either way I’ll keep an eye out for updates
  24. This looks like it could be interesting https://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2019/03/11-1/the-ancient-magus-bride-returns-with-short-web-anime
