  1. @efaardvark that one was too weird for my tastes, though a lot of the short series are pretty out there. Segue to me watching the first ep of Isekai Quartet last night. Having not seen Tanya the Evil or Re:Zero didn’t keep me from enjoying it. The Konosuba characters are indistinguishable from their non-chibi versions. As far as Overlord’s cast, the departure from the usually dark tone promises to be entertaining. Pretty sure this one’s gonna be a keeper They need to subtitle the dialogue in the OP & ED though
  2. Just finished the first episode of One Punch Man season 2. Despite some people complaining about a drop in "quality", I still think it made one of the better first impressions for the season.
  3. After watching the first episode of the new series I went back & watched the same episode of the original series (subtitled in both cases). I don't intend to do this going forward, but since I really didn't clearly remember the original series I was a bit curious how they compared. While it covered the same events, the newer one is more polished. While this is expected artistically, I also thought the story flowed better. And the new version has a male VA for Yuki which seemed to fit better to me anyway. However, the new version seems to be taking things more somberly. There's the foreshadowing in the opening scene, plus when Yuki's fan club confronts Tohru, they pretty much just brow beat her (in the original they did a sort of cheerleading routine first which was kinda funny And when Shigure welcomes Tohru as their housekeeper, the new version just has him speaking the words, but in the original he actually sings it  Overall it seems like the new version has much higher production values & will take things more seriously.
  4. It's fairly recent too (and the best thing about the series :P) Full version here
  5. Don't feel bad, a lot of sites only referred to it as Demon Slayer, not the Japanese title. I'm unfamiliar with the source material but the 1st episode makes it seem like one of the few promising new series. On that topic, I just finished the 1st ep of Midnight Occult Civil Servants and enjoyed it as well (particularly the designs for the supernatural creatures & it's humorous side).
  6. Other than Fruits Basket & Demon Slayer ( Kimetsu no Yaiba) most of this season's new shows seem lacking so far
  7. Welcome, glad you found your way here People here seem easier to talk to then on some of the bigger commercial forums, so hope you enjoy yourself
  8. Welcome, glad you found your way here I got away from anime for awhile as well, though in my case it was due to living in an area where video streaming wasn’t usable and buying series sight-unseen was too expensive. Back into it in a big way now though
  9. Watched the 1st episode of Dropkick on My Devil. Best description I can think of is a mash-up of Bludegeoning Angel Dokuro-chan and Ms. Kobayashi's Dragon Maid. Lots of 4th wall jokes and cartoon violence. Will probably continue to watch when I'm bored or until my free trial of Prime runs out.

      I might check it out,

  10. For a slightly different perspective on the season for me https://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-1047013/-winter-2019-anime-awards-#58062585
  11. Just watched the first episode of Yu-No. I think it’s pretty safe to say that whatever attention is given to the alternate realities sci-fi storyline and exploration of parent/child relations will be overshadowed by raging teenage boy hormones. While I don’t dislike fanservice I don’t like it being this pervasive (homeroom teachers only dress like that in hentai & Van Halen music videos). Plus the MC already PO’s me. Doubt I’ll even give it the benefit of the 3 episode rule.
  12. Definitely one of the better series of 2018. Though my understanding is it’s actually more of a tribute to Ashita no Joe than a direct reboot/reimagining.
  13. Nope, sorry if that was the indication my comments gave. I guess in part I was expecting that big fight with the other Heroes to be a little further along in the story instead of right out of the gate. It kinda felt like they were rushing things, but I guess that's how the story actually goes. As far as the harem aspect, I never really viewed it that way which is why I'm against them having Melty develop a crush on Naofumi. I'm not against her joining up with them, because it would give Filo a playmate and I do think she could be a useful ally, but having it develop into a 3 way competition for Naofumi's attention is the one thing I think could really hurt my enjoyment of the series. Fortunately I don't think they're headed that direction in the long term since the latest trailer seemed to show Naofumi & Raphtalia becoming closer.
  14. Not really a fan of the new OP, despite being by the same artist. I do like the new ED though, both the song and the visuals that go with it. This week's ep as a whole was somewhat disappointing to me. The artwork/animation didn't seem up to the standards I'd come to expect, plus the storyline didn't seem to flow as well. The series still has plenty of potential and the trailer for the 2nd cour promises some very interesting developments, so hopefully this is just something of a shaky start as things start going into a new phase and things get back on track soon.
  15. It was my pleasant surprise of the season despite being a lifelong dog person IRL:lol: My only complaint is I wish things had developed a bit more between Subaru & Nana before it ended, but I understand taking it slow considering how difficult social interactions were for him at the start.
  16. My final rankings of the season (dropped series not included) VERY GOOD (8/10) The Rising of the Shield Hero (1st cour) My Roommate is a Cat Dororo (1st cour) Space Battleship Yamato 2202 (2nd cour) GOOD (7/10) Kaguya-sama: Love is War That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (2nd cour) Mob Psycho 100 season 2 Hinomaru Sumo (2nd cour) Gegege no Kitaro (4th cour) The Promised Neverland OK (6/10) Kemurikusa Endro Girly Airforce The Price of Smiles Meiji Tokyo Renka Domestic Girlfriend Boogiepop & Others Mysteria Friends BAD (4/10) Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka The Qunitessential Qunituplets The Magnificent Kotobuki
  17. Scheduled for CR, Funi & Hulu April 6.
  18. Guess it depends on how you define "new" :P https://www.livechart.me/anime/8363 Premieres April 29
  19. Live action movie of Kaguya-sama: Love is War is in the works

    https://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2019/04/02-1/meet-kaguya-sama-love-is-war-live-action-film-cast-members-in-teaser-trailer

If nothing else, they at least have the look of the 2 MCs down pat, which is more than I can say for most live action adaptions.

  21. My favorite from Winter 2019 would have to be Rising of the Shield Hero, though My Roommate is a Cat & Love is War were really good as well. As far as the Spring 2019 season, setting aside all the continuations, sequels and remakes these are the one's whose PV/trailer caught my interest
  22. @ArchieKunWhen I said "all of this" I meant the quotes from you & Nono (sorry for the confusion) As far as Elfquest, I didn't follow the later storylines, just through Siege at Blue Mountain. And then read some of the Blood of 10 Chiefs novels which were anthology novels that explored the mythos.
  23. A week to go before the new anime season (though they're a couple earlier starters). Wish they'd hurry up and announce which series will be on which sites.

There were some good series, butnot as many as some past seasons. Favorites for me were Shield Hero, My Roommate is a Cat & Love is War. Mob’s last episode is tomorrow and I still need to finish Dororo & Kemurikusa.
