Call me shallow but I'm not watching a vending machine.

Favorites from the current season so far are sequels of Kaiju No. 8 & Dandadan.

These two are carrying the summer for me. Excellent anime.

I started Detectives Are Crazy These Days! the other night as a relaxing and humorous watch and it's been pretty good. Also started Sakamoto Days on Netflix. In some ways I like it okay and it has its moments, but not sure if I'll hang with it yet.

14 eps in I think I’m done with it, even if we are still in the middle of a fight. For the power level of these guys to make sense there would need to be quirks like in MHA. Plus it’s humor and feelz rarely land for me. Honestly the only part I can say I enjoyed was the episode & a half that focused on Sakamoto & Boiled. When it comes to action I’m already watching Kaiju No. 8 & Dandadan plus still need to check out Gachiakuta & Tougen Anki. And if I get an itch for assassins, I can resume Hotel Inhumans.

So far it’s gives me enough chuckles to keep watching. Hope Asunaro & Maki continue to be recurring characters as it adds a bit more variety to Nagumo & Mashiro’s schtick

I've only watched 3 episodes and I just have that feeling that it will get worse instead of better.

The characters interrupting each other with well-timed cuts has kept me entertained if nothing else, but at some point I'd like to see Nagumo have another actual cool detective moment.

I randomly started watching Dragon Raja a couple nights ago, later realizing that it's based off a video game. I'm two episodes in with the first being about 48 mins long and I'm pleasantly surprised so far. The art suffers from random still shots of ultra realism and odd color choices but I'm assuming that's the Chinese video game adaption flare going on there. The humor is pretty solid too.

I FINALLY finished watching Monster two days ago! It took me two years, but I'm glad I finally got around to it. I really enjoyed it. I've seen lots of people say that the ending was anticlimactic and sucked, but I personally enjoyed it for the most part. All of the characters in the show are fantastic, too. Even side characters such as Grimmer and Martin were very fleshed out and I'd say their stories were just as engaging as the stories of characters like Nina and Tenma.

I also think that Tenma is somehow a underrated character from what I've seen? I think he's overlooked because of Johan's popularity, as well as the fact that he's a main character. I thought he was a very well-written character that I thoroughly enjoyed. He was definitely my favourite (maybe I'm just biased for that reason, haha).

I'm trying to avoid saying any spoilers, so I'll be vague, but I think it was interesting when Tenma would disappear for multiple episodes. As much as I wanted to see him, I think these disappearances made Tenma more unpredictable when he does appear, like we can't tell what he's thinking so much. Same thing with Johan. I think this was a very cool choice that made their interactions all the more interesting.

So overall, I think that Monster does have some pacing issues and can be a bit boring at times, but it's worth it in the end. It's a very compelling story with fantastic characters that I would definitely watch again :]

I also caught up on the last few episodes of The Summer Hikaru Died today. I'm really enjoying it!

I'm hoping the second season of Dragon Raja gets better. It cracks me up when it randomly decides to save a little bit of money on the animation cause man does this anime struggle sometimes.

Dandadan is still great, unsurprisingly, as well as Kaiju No. 8.

Finished Phantom, and I have to say I really enjoyed it to the end. After a little bit of time watching Ghost Stories I moved onto Solty Rei, since I heard that it's very similar to Heat Guy J which I really enjoyed. It's kinda funny cause this is basically the same show wrapped in a different skin. Of course in terms of our character story, its different, but in terms of everything in the world it's kind of ridiculous how similar they are. So far I'd say Heat Guy J did a better job with this "human android buddy cop" show but it might change as I finish the show

Sampled the season’s 2 new big action shonen series (Gachiakuta & Tougen Anki) but honestly not impressed with either. Sticking with Dandadan & Kaiju No. 8, both of which I’m liking.

Was really looking forward to My Dress-up Darling’s 2nd season, but has been pretty disappointing so far. Not enough cute Marin & Gojo moments. Giving too much screentime to generic background characters (their classmates & Marin’s co-workers). The arc with the otokonoko cosplayer (Amane) was decent at least. But the only segments I found as enjoyable as season 1 so far was Gojo looking after sick Marin & the “birthday” celebration 😂

I have a bunch of time for a little while, so I've been knocking off stuff from my backlog.  Here's what we've got:

I FINALLY watched Unlimited Blade Works, the movie version.  yes, I know a TON of stuff was cut because VN Route into movie... gotta compress it.  of course, I'll be watching the actual series a bit later on.

Currently, I also have Danmachi S2 going, along with Nekomonogatari

And I'm surprising myself by actually following some title that are airing- I've come to HATE cliffhangers (outside of season finales, which are a different beast), so I guess technically speaking I'm letting a few weeks pass before catching up... anyways, I'm finding myself really enjoying Gachiakuta for shounen, and for a "darker" flavor, we have the dark fantasy Clevatess.

I'm watching monster as well! tenma is also my favorite character, I like how he strongly he addheres to his beliefs, its seems almost shonen like l to me. I'm watching monster on Netflix an on there they have 2 language option Japanese and French, I choose to watch it French because it takes place in europe lol and I think that Johan's voice sounds better in the French dub

Yes, that's another reason I love Tenma! MAJOUR spoiler for the ending below because i'm unsure if you've finished the series yet or how close you are.

Spoiler

It seems a lot of people didn't like that Tenma doesn't kill Johan in the end, but I was personally hoping for that outcome! I'm glad Tenma stuck with his beliefs until the very end.

I watched the series on Netflix too, however I chose to watch it in Japanese because the English dub wasn't there. I'm happy I went with it, though. I've heard that the English dub is really good (I've seen a few clips and they all sounded great), however I prefer Johan's voice in Japanese. His voice is a lot softer in the original sub and I personally think it's more fitting to his character. It makes him seem more approachable yet it's also very eerie at times and I think that's rather fitting for his character. I haven't heard Johan's voice in French before, so I might check that out later!

While these remain my current highlights from My Dress -up  Darling S2, I think episode 9 was my favorite so far. Juju & Shinju (the sisters from season 1) really livened things up with their return 😁 I can see Akira catching a lot of hate for her attitude towards Marin, but given that their personalities are polar opposites, it’s actually understandable that she finds Marin to be a bit “Too Much”. She obviously is dealing with some issues & personally I like her character & am looking forward to learning more about her. And then there’s the misunderstanding the episode ended on … hoo boy, it’s gonna be a long night 😂 Starting to think maybe the season can still be salvaged after all.
