What anime are you watching now?

@Seshi It gets much worse in season 3. The longer he remains trapped in the game, the more of his “humanity” he loses. Fans point to this dark aspect as to what sets it apart from other isekai, but it can make it hard to watch at times. I’m not entirely sure I could make it through a season 4 if one gets made the way things are progressing. Not to discourage anyone, but just a heads up on the direction it takes.

Yes, it definitely has a dark side if you think about it.  At least through season 3 he still seems to be doing things mostly for the "right" reasons intellectually speaking, but without emotion or empathy.  By the end he certainly has no problem (for instance) killing people on a massive scale and without a second thought if they get in his way or it serves his purpose.  He even remarks on it himself with a kind of "no big deal" attitude.

By the end I was kind of getting bored of it though.  I mean, he's so overpowered, especially with Albedo and the rest, that I started to wonder what's the point of it all?

Sure, though it might be a while.  I usually watch only a couple episodes early on in the season.  If I like it then I put it on a list of shows to binge-watch at the end of the season.  I like what I've seen so far, but I probably won't watch any more until then.

That's okay, I'm the same way and right now my to-watch list is pretty full. I'm on the fence about bumping this show up on that list when the season is done. I've seen your comments around on the forum and really like your opinions. If you ever do a finished review it will definitely be a noteworthy source. 😁

I’m up to the current episode (6) and it’s one of my favorites for the season. Though I think a single cour is probably an appropriate length since some of the jokes are getting a bit repetitive. I do hope we don’t get a “inconclusive” ending since it’s been obvious since the beginning that they’re meant for each other

I’ve found it enjoyable enough & certainly interesting.  But it can be more than a little unsettling as Ains’  in game persona takes over more & more of his identity threatening to turn him into an actual monster. I understand the LNs are even more graphic in that sense.

To bump, or not to bump: that is the watch list dilemma— ha-ha. 😆 Now I want to but it's a bummer about the repetition and I certainly know what you mean. Just by the synopsis you get the sense of inevitability. The academic perspective of romance seems like a hilarious and interesting take and now that you mention it, having an ambiguous outcome would feel more satisfying. Crossing fingers! 🤞🙂 Now I'm considering a decision with more clarity at least, thanks!

At the moment I am watching Seven Deadly Sins, The disastrous life of Saiki K, Grenadier, and seen an episode of Dorohedoro the other night.

Watching the first 3 at my local anime soc and missed a few meets until today so I gotta fill the gaps soon. I have seen some of SDS years back but got distracted mid way into season 1 at one point but been meaning to rewatch for some time.

Manaria Friends.. shortend-form (10x15min eps) iyashikei.  Cute, simple.  Not exciting or fancy like the others in the Shingenki no Bahamut ilk, but that's how these things are supposed to be.

Have to admit I rather liked Grea’s character design

Just finished RE:Zero Memory Snow. An OVA taking place midway through season, it was basically an excuse for everyone to play in the snow & then have a party where Emilia & Rem get drunk 😂 Was funny & cute.

Anyone else here still watching Somali and the Forest Spirit? I still think it's not the goat, but I do find it enjoyable

<raises hand>
I agree with your assessment. I don’t think it’s as great as it aspires to be, but still decent. No real surprises & not really emotionally invested in it.

I know there are some Bananafish fans here, but I dropped it due to the sad nature of the show.

Started watching Granblue Fantasy. In every regards a typical fantasy rpg, but I’m enjoying it for some reason. Nostalgia maybe? :P

I actually haven’t seen the original series. I’ve heard they’re quite different.

Started watching season 3 of Castlevania, though I suppose it’s more anime inspired/influenced than actual anime.

I'm just over halfway. There are 30 episodes and its all black and white. Its actually not bad to watch, lots off panning over scenes instead of intense animation. But, what can you expect for a low budget anime from the 70's. The story is good so far. I like an anime that can make me cry at points.

Finishing Violet Evergarden was SO FLIPPING HARD.
That was my most recently finished anime >->; to follow this threads theme...kind of :/

I have no idea if I should even post this under anime, it's listed as American Adult Animation and calling it a mere cartoon feels kind of disjointed. Just finished watching season one of Seis Manos. I have no idea how this show managed to mesh together some cheesy 70's cop/neo-noir films, classic kung-fu — in the likes of Akira Kurosawa and modern themes. I actually kind of like this show, though I did have to get through the first two episodes to get there. My only real issue is that this show has occasional jokes that feel like they're directed towards children. Which often feels out of place with its Mature rating and pure brutal violence. However, they don't saturate it to the point of annoyance and they're way too brief to stick with you while you're watching. I felt like those moments were intentional for that classic film vibe anyway.

Brad Graeber is one of the creators, who has also done work like Castlevania.

I like the cultural aspect and how they weren't afraid of certain representations. Love the Mexican/Latino fusion with Chinese martial arts and philosophy. It just brings something unique to the external realm of animation and Japanese inspired styles. The characters are likable and the show did a fantastic job of blurring the lines between concepts such as justice and revenge. One of the main characters has this horrific event happen to him as a child that has drastically altered him as a person. He struggles between normality and being this destructive product of those events. His loss and grief gets to the point where it makes more sense to let him have his revenge. Yet it's heartbreaking to follow through as he loses a bit of civility and there's emotion in that. Conveyed through how his companions begin to fear his violent outbursts. Honestly, I've seen a lot of shows try to introduce fear through abstract trauma. I like that this adds the element of assault and heavier tones that give characters more weight behind their anger and suffering. I just never considered a Supernatural- Martial Arts adult animation to also explore PTSD and living with mental trauma.

The show is absolutely bold in the way it handles some of its humor. Mocking customs, race and philosophy—while remaining in good, witty taste.

The true gem in the animation can be found in the extensive, beautifully done martial arts choreography.

Definitely looking forward to a season two. 😀👍

Going to revisit Earth Maiden Arjuna soon. I completely forgot about this anime but remembered it the other day in the garden. I don't know why but it was an anime that used to give me major nostalgia for Spring and Summer adventures. I wonder if it's aged well? I mean, I don't think it was ever received too well in the first place but I personally thought it was okay. ✌️😁
