  1. > I take amateur photography via my mobile phone's camera - mostly of flora, fauna, buildings and the sky. Usually after work or classes on my way to home, or when I go out or walk in the backyard of my house, I find the time to take pics of stuff I see and like. Sometimes I use my own photos as references for my art. > I like watching gameplays, tv series and animes, (mostly for film/media/storyline research cuz it's a habit I picked up from when I used to go to Uni to study Animation.) I do it when I don't feel like working on any art or when I have free periods/free days from classes. I especially do it the most when I get sick and need time to recover my health. > I colour people's linearts for fun or practice. I usually do this when I feel like I want to create something, but don't have enough drive to make my own art. I also do it when I want to experiment with/test out colours, before applying it to my own work, and then I use the piece as a colour palette itself for when I'm working on my drawings in Photoshop.

  2. Well, I think people see us as weirdos and people who watch a lot of ecchi and hentai It's just frustrating sometimes because usually people who judge us like anime too, but too proud to confess!

  3. Hola! Como estas? ^.^ Nice to meet you I am a semi blind, clinically depressed, (SFW) Artist from the Caribbean region, who recently turned 27 a few days ago ^.^" I've been drawing for 15 yrs - (10/12 traditionally and the last 5 digitally since I went to Uni and "upgraded"), and while I'm more known online for creating Manga OC Art, I also create stuff like Portraits, Abstract Art, 3D Objects, Nature Illustrations, Logo designs, Beaded Jewelry, Vector Resources etc. In my spare time, I do enjoy taking amateur photos via my mobile phone, I like colouring people's linearts digitally, and doing film/media research such as watching non commentary gameplays via Youtube. I do speak alittle Spanish and Japanese from time to time also, cuz sometimes writing in English all the time gets erm...well boring really. Sorry if this intro was "wordy" but this is the way I am o_o lol Alright, now that that stuff's out of the way, would anyone like to chat?

  5. Sorry ^.^" I studied Animation when I went to University when I was younger. It's a habit for me now to include things about animation in general from a studio production perspective. Half the time for dubs/English voice overs, it's not the actors' fault but the script writers - cuz they mis interpreted things and/or tried to change things to suit an American audience - (like what they did for Sailor Moon.) And then there is the english director and producer who are also at fault, cuz they approved the script and whatever other changes they made for the American audience. Subs I can understand being mistranslated cuz it's usually just regular people on streaming sites etc doing them, but dubs are a whole nother issue. LOL I know right XD I tried to watch Attack on Titan in English and quit 10 mins after one episode, going back to the original lol XD I tried to watch Sailor Moon in english and couldn't make it past 5 episodes cuz it was so english power ranger cheezey omg T.T Ranma 1/2 was the same. Tried one episode of it in english and I was like nope. (I did watch 120 episodes of that show though in sub - only because it was written by a woman - , but I stopped cuz the ecchi, perv bs was getting too far out of hand.) I lost respect for the Mangaka after that too.

  7. i guess you are right, if you force yourself onto something that was once meant to give you fun; but currently does not give the same joy it once did; would just imply you're not having fun on it anymore, which is pretty damn much not a fun thing to do. so leaving it behind with good memories -- is better than staying to long with it and gaining bad memories of it ...oddly makes me think of the quote "you either live long enough to see yourself turn into a villain. or die a hero" >_>

  8. Eventually, I had to do it this way. I used to try and keep all my hobbies, but I was going insane because I didn't have the time for all of them, and by forcing certain ones to stay, it took away from the overall enjoyment by quite a bit.

  9. Germs, I hate germs and I hate being sick and being next to something filthy is extremely unnerving and scary. Also I am Claustrophobic, I start to hyperventilate when I get stuck in tight spaces and feel like I might die; even in elevators with lots of people cramped together or something like that I eventually freak out and try to shove everyone away from as quick as possible so I can catch my breath.

  11. Hmmm... I wonder as well. To make it simple, I think one of the factors that makes it great, is how diverse and entertaining anime can be despite it looking all the same if we look at it globally. It requires a lot of imagination to create one, and a lot of interest from the watcher to understand what goes on. I think it's often quite well balanced.

  12. Its all good a lot of the time I feel like my replies are never short, but I try to make them not endless. Though to your point yes there will always be these things that are unavailable. I will say though one way that I use to feel better about this sort of thing is to think of them as stepping stones. As I do one then the next I get closer to what I want to do.

  13. this is true, but sometimes in life, there are thing's that you dont want, that you have to put more time onto, (coughworkcough), thus getting less time on things you want (coughhobbies) unless they both, being work and hobby, correlated on the same scene/event/workline ? (huh, i had a hard time of putting it into a short sentence that made sense)

  14. I understand when it comes to leaving collectables behind. I still have my GC, and SNES as well as my N64 from 10 years ago. Though as said above watching game play, or lets plays is a good hobby to get into. It lets you see something from another perspective that you otherwise would not have seen yourself. This is also true of other kinds of tutorials like art. I have watched anime art tutorials just for the sake of it. Once you then become even more confident in your hobbies as well as your abilities then you'll find yourself making tons of time for them.

  17. Typically like tactical games, VNs, anime, manga, and finding cute characters on pinterest/pixiv. I work full time, and have an hour drive one way, but I don't really do anything special when it comes to time management. I simply spend time on whatever comes to mind and go with that. If that means that certain hobbies get less attention then so be it, not going to force myself to do a hobby more than what I feel like. Also, don't really feel like I'm sacrificing any hobbies this way, if they naturally fade out like that then they simply don't have a place in my life anymore.

  20. Hey everyone, I've been a fan of Japanese anime and manga for a little over 20 years now, and it's one of my main hobbies. Because of my career and life I never really got to go to conventions, or meet others who like what I like. I wanted to finally join a anime community just to chat with others and add my thoughts on stuff, along with maybe sharing some rare anime memorabilia since I've collected a lot over the years. I just have a couple questions: - Are there other folks who are closer to my age on here? I'm in my early 30s now, and i certainly don't mind talking to people younger then me about the hobby because I love seeing people become interested in it. I just found when I was searching through stuff like Discord channels, etc that it seems very difficult to find anyone who is over 20, just to have someone to relate to. It's not a huge issue, but I was hoping maybe there were at least a few others that were older adults; or maybe I just suck at looking for things. - Even though I haven't followed a community before, the only one I did try was the anime Reddit, and I was berated for saying that I'm not a big fan of calling people weeb, or at least others calling me it. I find it to be a derogatory term, and I'm not here to change other peoples minds about it, but I just don't want to be made fun of. I know they say you are suppose to wear it like a badge of honor or something like that, but I'm older and I find it to be self deprecating, on top of when I was younger I was bullied along with my friends many times back in the late 90s for liking anime, something that was still very uncommon. I just wanted to know if I decide to join this place, I won't be talked down to or at least used in a negative or demeaning way. Thanks again, I am really looking forward to talking about anime and manga with everyone, thanks for taking the time to read this!

  22. For me it's bad voice acting, bad dialogue cuz someone effed up the script writting, annoying voices, voices that so don't match the character and if they repeat things in the dialogue <.<

  23. Lol, you speak kinda funny o_o I know it's Shakespearean/Old English, but I could never really understand nor appreciate it in today's Modern World, mostly cuz I don't have patience for my brain to process it <.< It's just not my thing. But thanks for the welcome still >.> I think it would honestly depend, cuz people can be artists but have personalities that are different. Also depends on what kind of art they do, cuz there are some I don't like nor support, (such as NSFW Content, like nudity, porn/hentai, "male gaze/fan service of female characters, ecchi, super explicit yaoi/yuri etc.).... EDIT: Semi blind means I'm see blurry and require surgery to fix it - but I'm not gonna do it cuz I'm afraid AND cuz it's super expensive in my country. My 3rd reason for not doing it, cuz of how I do my art. I like showcasing how I see lighting etc through my eyes, while at the same time proving to people that they can still make decent work that doesn't always have to follow the norm, despite having a disability. It gives people hope. Thanks. I originally joined here, for when I decided to launch my Art Request and Trading Service Event. I'm still making preparations for it - (one of them being joining as much Social Platforms as possible so that I can reach out to as many people as possible, so they can access the service and not miss out if they're interested.) The last one I did was about 3 or 4 yrs ago. I'm hoping to launch by this Dec, since last Dec I was unfortunately ill for while and needed to focus on fixing my health first. And no problem (hugs) EDIT: Erm.... are replies in a single go, supposed to be merged like this? It looks alittle erm....weird to me. Normally most forums post separate quoted replies, so the person can individually reply back. Not sure about this one o_o Thank you ^.^ Thanks. Yeah, still wanted to be considerate, cuz there are some people on the internet (like my haters/trolls/stalkers), who go all "tldr" when they see me posting a wall of text and s**t - especially when they ask me a question and waste my time being rude in the end - sigh.

  24. @ArchieKun Alright, allow me to play Devil's Advocate here. Consider that the producers were not willing to bend the story to fit cultural acceptance across international lines through dubbing. Great shows that cemented my love of anime in my childhood like Cardcaptor Sakura would never have been brought over (due to the gay relationship between her brother and his friend, as well as Tomoyo's obsession (and lesbian/incest love) for Sakura) because during that era, children were actually shielded from exposure to extreme social concepts of the time like homosexuality, pedophilia, incest, and so forth (some may not be considered extreme today, but remember folks, you cannot judge yesterday by today's standards!). At the very least, by changing some parts of the dubbing, the anime was able to reach a larger audience and I imagine that is one anime many fans look fondly back on even today, knowing it was changed. My sister doesn't really like anime...but she was into Sailor Moon, which also may not have continued if not subtly altered (to remove animal cruelty (in episode 2 or 3? It was an early episode where her brother kicks Luna maliciously because he hates cats - actually reminds me of some real crazy's I've worked with in the past), premarital sex, again homosexuality, and so forth). Many fans rail against these changes today but the fact of the matter is that they would have never seen the show to begin with if not for those changes having been in place. Sailor Moon was many a fan's (especially when it came to girls) first anime "love". Changes like those were put in place to protect a very young audience who may be watching (remember, a lot of these were on Saturday mornings and weekday afternoons immediately after school). Children are exposed in my opinion to far too much these days. While I too prefer the original storyline as opposed to the changes, I can 100% agree with the reasoning behind instituting those changes, especially because it gave access to those anime earlier rather than later. I do think that some anime does need censorship, because parents are not willing to parent their children these days. Parenting is hard...and sex is easy. Funny how that works. Those anime that should be censored in my opinion are the ones that are being targeted to children (and shown on "cartoon specific channels targeting very young audiences). If you want an uncensored version, I think the producers should always produce for purchase an "uncut" version (which I have for Sailor Moon. Big beautiful boxes that I came across by pure serendipity one day and was very willing to dump some cash on to get them.). I agree with censorship on a level, even though I prefer to see the author's original vision. Some concepts shouldn't be taught to children until they are actually old enough to comprehend them. I worked with pediatrics and I've seen some messed up kids. Yeah, the 90s anime were famous for censorship, but it was done with the right audience in mind. Just my two cents.

  27. oh, a fellow Dante fan. I'm looking forward to Sekiro too, the visuals look good like Black Desert Online and I'm always interested in games that show other cultures. Cyberpunk feels like Grand Theft Auto (haven't played it but have seen it numerous times to be familiar) so I'll probably pass on that. Deus Ex looks better imho.

  28. Mmm... This is a tricky question... I think it's a matter of knowing your priorities & time management. My hobbies are watching anime, series, drawing, and playing games. I think what worked for me best when I was a student was to watch anime/ series that are not completed yet, meaning I have to wait each week/s for the next episode/s. This helped me a lot in controlling myself not to binge-watch. I just do this when it's my vacation or I don't have anything due. As for games, this was really hard for me to control. I think what I did was I listen and focus during classes so that I don't need to study a lot during exams (for subjects that were easy), but I make sure I give enough time to study for classes that were harder. I reward myself after with playing games hard-core. And while I study, I try to watch something every now and then to not stress too much. I don't have much time doing sports/ exercise (well... because I'm too lazy for it) but I try to walk a lot to make up for being a couch potato. Sometimes, if I'm really motivated, I do some aerobics at home in the morning. I think it's simply discipline.

  30. Since schools back in session, most of my time is doing homework and other course work outside of class. If I'm fortunate enough to have an hour or two to do what I want, I'll most likely read LNs on my kindle or read a VN for a bit. Although, I might watch an episode or two of an anime if I feel like it. If I'm not doing any of the above, I'm playing a round or two of R6:Siege or I'm playing on my Switch. That's pretty much it for me. I also have a few friends who do sports as well and it baffles me how they manage to fit all their responsibilities and hobbies alongside their mandatory practices as well.

  38. They assume all Lolicons are pedo's and all anime fans no matter what are perverts. They assume that you are stupid because "anime is for kids". They assume you are a shut-in virgin with no life and that you live with your parents. They assume you are gay if you talk up your favorite male anime characters. They assume anyone who likes anime is a "Weeb". Really, there are way too many people who hate anime and the majority of them haven't even watched any; they are like "DBZ sucks, so all anime is stupid" it is ridiculous.

  40. The movie room in the library from my hometown wasn't big, by any standards, but it had some interesting VHS tapes. I remember we often borrowed The Wizard of Oz from the library, I would get sci-fi and mystery books, and my mom would get some mystery books on tape (that we would listen to on the way to and from school). I was a huge reader back in the day (still am, but I do a lot of writing now too), but my library unfortunately didn't have any anime in those days. It was probably unheard of for a library to have it back then. I still need to get around to returning a book I borrowed last month. It's only a week late now...lol... Thankfully, the libraries here have banded together so I can use the same library card to borrow books and movies from libraries across several counties and I can return the books to any of the libraries in the system. So much more convenient! As for the actual topic...haha... I have some Zoid model kits I've put together of the Liger-Zero. Fully articulating and everything. I have a few small statues too, some artwork from artists I've picked up over the years at various cons too that I've had framed... I have far more video game art than anime art. I tend to wax and wane on my anime and video game interests over time, gravitating from one to the other, so that doesn't surprise me. I had far more extra money back in my video game focused days than now in my anime focused days. Life.... Eats up your spare cash lol...
